I would be all right with my theoretical girlfriend taking all of my candy; it could only make her sweeter, and also I lack self-control and always end up eating way too much in one sitting.

Really niche personal gripe: I wish HTTH had been a little bit more like the Dirty Pair comic/anime series in regards to the female leads. I wanted so much more for them. I have a lot of snake feelings for next week.

paul knows netflix isn't free right? every time a movie is available on there he says "it's free on netflix". netflix isn't free paul .. unless your sister told one of her friends your password.... then it's free for them. and when you say that's bad form and you're going to change the password but then your sister gets upset and pulls out the old "but she's my friend!" routine ... and then you tell her she's in her 30's and she can't use that line anymore but when it comes time to change the password it turns out that she CAN still use that line because baby sisters .. am i right???

i wonder who paul guilted into giving him their password??

Andy Sidaris seemed to, having seen most of his movies. I bought this set for five bucks and it's worth every penny because the first half of the movies are all glorious B-movies, which is what he wanted to make. The latter half are basically softcore pornos that star Penthouse Pets and pro wrestlers, but they still are acting with a straight face in plots that almost are switched around between characters depending on which film it is.

You guys promise this is going to be good, right? Because personally, I've been feeling very "do I have to?" lately about a lot of these picks.* There are still a ton of really fun bad movies out there that aren't complete garbage (cough The Core cough) Not everything needs to be 80's, B-movie detritus. (cough The 6th Day cough). Maybe something a little different is in order (sneeze Blank Check sniffle)? Who knows? Maybe it's just me (Ah-ah chooooo! Johnny Mnemonic)?

I really got to shake off this cold...

*Yes, I know I don't have to do anything.

With Paul declaring the prospect of a Southland Tales episode all but dead, I think it's worth considering that the politics of bagging recent movies are a lot stickier. I don't think it's a coincidence that the recent era of movies was covered more thoroughly in the earlier episodes.

Yeah, I get that, and I'm sensitive to that, but none of the movies I coughed out are under a decade old - certainly xXx and Fate and the Furious are more recent. And while I know I specifically cited "80's" movies in my post, it's less about the era and more about the quality. To me, the movies they've been picking recently would be the equivalent of going to your kid's T-Ball game and heckling the players. There's just not a whole lot of challenge in it.

That's not to say there haven't been good movies lately. Timecop was amazing. But Ninja Terminator? Body Parts? This one? It used to be I'd get excited when a new HDTGM movie was announced, but lately it feels like my reaction has been more "what movie is that?" or "Ugh! Really?"

They don't have to offend anyone when they cover a movie. As anyone who follows me on Letterboxd knows, Monster Trucks is my favorite movie of the year. Tom Lennon is fantastic in it. The direction is pretty solid, but, hey, I still have questions. ;)

I just feel like, if things are done with the right intention and with good humor, no movie should be off the table.

Watching Hard ticket to Hawaii. While the movie is total shit, for some reason the aviation scenes are shockingly accurate. When they are inspecting the plane, doing the pre flight tests and radio call are all text book aviation. It seems the only part of the movie they paid attention to.

I get that, I mean my favorite HDTGM movies are the "almost good" or "popular but actually bad" movies like Face/Off, Demolition Man, Devil's Advocate, etc. But I definitely have enjoyed almost all of the trash movie episodes, too.

In Cameron H's defense, I watched the first ~30 minutes of Monster Trucks and it wasn't bad. Fun, even? But then my plane landed and the video feed stopped.

I have no qualms about the movie being fun! My confusion comes from the "favorite movie of the year" part lmao. THAT SEEMS STRAIGHT UP BONKERS TO ME!

It's the only movie released in the past year that I've watched twice...

I would expect Jim Wynorski angrier about being outed as a piece of garbage than about making fun of the movie.

Yeah, I hear you. It's not a knock on the episodes or the hosts, just the movies. Like, I like the occasional B Movie, but they feel more like a Rifftrax/MST3K thing than an HDTGM thing to me. With some exceptions, I find B Movies to be more fun to make fun of during than to discuss afterwards.

Ultimately, I like having good a good conversation with you guys and these types of movies don't promote much in the way of discussion. They just tend to be rather hollow. To me.

Ha ha ha, guys.

I'm just saying, Monster Trucks is the best movie of this or any generation. Quite frankly, Citizen Kane can go fuck itself.

Not to interrupt but truthfully we don't put as much thought into nixing movies as you might believe. I work with Nate and Avaryl on finding movies that are better than just blandly bad. It's surprisingly how many current movies we have looked at that are just fine. I'd rather do something like The Apple or Ninja Terminator because they are just so different, they allow us to go in different directions from a conversation standpoint. That doesn't mean we ONLY exist in them. For example the next two films are wildly different and from the 2000s. . To me it's about creating variety and also making the film watching experience fun. My biggest issue about this show is when people complain about not wanting to watch a "bad movie" - that's the whole premise. Plus I will argue that these weird ones are really watchable. Hard Ticket is a classic, It's like TBS' version of The Room. All this being said, I love reading these opinions and please I just want you to understand the choices. Back in the beginning we wouldn't pre watch. Now I'd argue we toss away a ton after looking at them. As with anything it's a matter of taste. So you might not like Ninja Terminator but a lot of other people did. So hopefully we keep the roulette wheel of genre spinning and we try to connect genres or making interesting pairs week after week. Hence Chopping Mall and Hard Ticket. But I do want you to know we are afraid of current films. We just want to find ones that are fun to watch and yeah they aren't going to be good. I also hear the argument that The Face/Offs and Devils Advocates are fun. I love them too but they are a little harder to come by.

Re: Netflix - I know it's not technically free but a majority of people have Netflix and it's something where you don't have to pay per movie or even have cable. In my experience people are willing to take a chance on Netflix films because if you have it. It's just a click.

Also your monster truck arrgument is INSANE.

I also hear the argument about B movies. But it's fun to dip our toes in that pool too, especially with Horror.

Again just from a variety standpoint. Have faith that we can always keep you guessing and that we can go from Time Cop to Grease 2 to Ninja Terminator to Lake House.

My biggest issue about this show is when people complain about not wanting to watch a "bad movie" - that's the whole premise.

In my defense, I love watching bad movies. I look forward to watching them every other week. I wouldn't be here if I didn't. But I do think there's a difference between a good-bad movie and a bad-bad movie. And, of course, that in itself is subjective. I'll give this movie a shot, too. I just find it boring when the discussion comes down to, "this untalented person who had no business making a movie made a bad movie." I like looking for the little logical errors in these movies. The little things that don't quite add up. But when the whole movie is one huge logical error...

And, again, this isn't a knock on the show or it's quality or anything like that. It's just that I like to talk about these movies with the friends that I've met on these boards. When the movie doesn't have much to offer beyond, "Wow, that sucked" it's kind of a bummer. And I get that my complaint is very Cameron H-centric. I apologize for that.

Also your monster truck arrgument is INSANE.

Spoken like a man who hasn't experienced the joy for himself. You have my pity.
