Ep 250 — Under the Cherry Moon

And in regards to what June was talking about the parental content sticker, it was Darling Nikki that Tipper Gore overheard her daughter singing the lyrics to and that caused her to get together with wives of other politicos and formed the Parents Music Resource Center and pushed for a hearing in front of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, which included a good number of husbands of PMRC members, about either warning the public about "porn rock" as it was called by them, or outright banning it. This led to Frank Zappa, Dee Snyder, and John Denver appearing as opposing witnesses at the hearing to argue against the potential censorship and first amendment violation that could occur from the hearing. It then culminated in Uncle Luke from 2 Live Crew helping to create the parental advisory sticker that adorns albums with content not designed for children. It also led to record companies creating those shitty as hell "clean versions" of albums where the dirty words or sex parts were just blanked out of the song.

Ep 250 — Under the Cherry Moon

Well this can definitely fall under the HDTGM heading of "vanity projects that were destined to be bad." I mean you have Prince at an incredibly peak in his career after Purple Rain came out to massive success on all fronts. From box office returns to critical reviews to Prince winning an Oscar for it and the soundtrack becoming one of the best selling albums of all time. So when he tells a studio "I wanna make a black and white movie that's American Gigolo meets Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with a dab of The Cotton Club thrown in, and it's set in Paris. Oh and I'm going to direct it." Of course the studio wasn't going to say to no but I have to assume someone had to be a little uncertain about it working out like they hoped. And what Paul was talking about in regards to the first Evening With Kevin Smith special where he talked about doing some work with Prince and finding out that Prince had literally hundreds of songs that had been recorded, dozens of music videos had been filmed many on Prince's own dime, and they were just never released because either Prince changed his mind about doing so or the studio was interested in releasing them with whatever current album Prince was working on. You can find it on Youtube searching their names but it's only in 10 minute segments.
  3. So today I learned that the world has so far been denied the crossover that we all need at this time, Transformers vs. Jason Voorhees. Both series take place in the cinematic universe as Michael Bay admitted that Megan Fox's douchebag boyfriend from the first Transformer movie is the same character and actor that is the douchebag boyfriend in the Friday the 13th reboot from 2009. All we would need is for Jason to know that Decepticons were banging, which let's just admit that they were given that this is a Michael Bay series, and he would wipe them out with ease.

So the new trailer for Archenemy is out and it is definitely Paul in the movie, no mistaking his voice.
  5. I started watching this as part of my annual horror movie binge and it might be the modern day Sleepaway Camp. Not in the amazing twist at the end manner, but the batshit insane acting and characters along with the fact that it's a weird mix of Chopping Mall as well as there is a huge carnage scene that the movie is getting recognized for and for the fact that both movies are barely over 70 minutes. This movie might also have the most disgusting eating scene since The Platform that I'm sure Jason would have a field day with.
  6. Since Fateful Findings was covered I figured that this would be the next best film as it has not one but TWO NEIL FUCKING BREENS!! It also has the best green screen technology since Nickelodeon's 90s game show Nick Arcade and the greatest fake facial hair since the electrical tape mustached from Sleepaway Camp. Also the movie should be covered in preparation for the apparent sequel that Breen is working on right now.
  7. So the idea of a topic like this was brought up in a recent discussion that took place in a mini-ep where we realized that many of us have a love of comics, but our recommendations get lost to time in the middle of other discussions. So I figured why not go with the idea and start the topic. Basically it's about sharing a love of the comic medium and giving others ideas for series we may not have heard about or on the fence on for reading. Couple things: If it's a specific run of a series, like with a superhero, try your best to list the writer to make it easier to find Just give a brief pitch of what the series is about or why you like it, otherwise be sure to use the spoiler covering Since I'm now back at work a bit more, albeit still under a modified lockdown, I've been reading into my backlog of paperbacks and have really been lucky with some good series. DC Doomsday Clock - a fantastic blending of the mainstream DC universe and Alan Moore's Watchmen universe Mister Miracle by Tom King - very interesting blend of psychological look at a hero riddled with trauma/PTSD and having to deal with the fallout of his upbringing as the adopted son of Darkseid Marvel Spider-Man: Life Story - a Spider-Man tale with now sliding timeline, so Peter Parker is aging realistically and is dealing with real world events like the Vietnam War and other societal landmarks Image/Dark Horse/Etc. Deadly Class - solid high school story where the school specializes in creating the next generation of criminal and killers, where cliques are made of groups like the Yakuza and cartel rather than jocks and preps A Walk Through Hell - a dark psychological horror story involving two FBI agents who are forced to combat their sins and their ramifications while searching a new crime scene
  8. What I want to know is what movie beat this in terms of product placement? Was it another Bay film?

    Carnosaur (1993)

I remember renting this trilogy from Blockbuster as I was still big into dinosaurs as a kid when I started getting into horror and was amazed at how batshit crazy the first film was. It's even more crazy considering it goes for a dark as fuck ending similar to what the Jurassic Park book had going for it in regards to how characters fare compared to their movie counterparts.

    Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999)

He's also a dude you forget how long he's been acting for as his first role was in Casualties of War with Sean Penn and Michael J. Fox, as well as similar "they've been acting for how long?!" guys in Ving Rhames and John Leguizamo.
  11. I enjoyed the Bad Boys films for the set piece action scenes as well as the chemistry between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, and The Rock is great and one of the rare Bay films with an actual plot and story the viewer can get behind as well as a cast stacked with great character actors that Cage and Connery can work off of. Armageddon is definitely a movie that should be covered by the show for its so-bad-it's-good nature and I legit love Pain & Gain as it's a pretty decent adaptation of the real life incident, albeit Bay softened the outcome for some of the victims, where the real life counterparts fared a lot worse. Every thing else of I've either seen once and that was enough or I've avoided like the plague.

Yeah they have been looking at Hailee Steinfeld for Kate Bishop but nothing has been confirmed yet, which would be a great choice in the same way as Tatiana Maslany is cast now for She Hulk. So long as they just stick to the Fraction end of the Hawkeye series and stay away from the mediocre at best Jeff Lemire volumes that ended it, it should be great, With Wandavision I am really looking forward to what many fans are assuming is going to be the entry point for bringing the previously Fox owned Marvel characters into the MCU, since Scarlet Witch is supposed to be a big part of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which seems like the best option for trying to incorporate characters like the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool into the MCU.

    Shadowboxer (2005)

Bumping this for how batshit insane this movie is and the number of notable people involved with this movie. You have Lee Daniels in his directorial debut, Helen Mirren before she won an Oscar, Cuba Gooding Jr. as her stepson/lover/partner in crime, Stephen Dorff who does a full frontal sex scene that ends with him basically losing his boner and killing a couple people, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a mob doctor and Mo'Nique as a his drug addicted nurse/girlfriend. The most notable scene outside of the Dorff one is easily the bit where a cancer riddled Mirren asks Cuba to mercy kill her so they have sex in the woods and Cuba shoots her in the head as she climaxes. This was released in theaters in six cities including LA and New York City, meaning they were trying to get this eligible for the various film award ceremonies.

    Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999)

It's amazing some of the dreck that was a part of Mirren's career before her Oscar win like this, Caligula, and the Shadowboxer. If anything this movie should be done back to back with Shadoboxer as that movie is so mind boggling bad and has a lineup of notable people involved with it.

    Twisted Pair (2018)

My friends and I were certain that the bulk of the cast were people that worked at Breen's businesses with how stilted they were in their delivery because as least there is some emotion in drama students or people wanting to go into acting. I can also feel safe in guaranteeing that they didn't turn on any lights because Breen thought it would look more dramatic and suspenseful. As for Breen becoming self aware, I don't think there is any chance of that because in all of the interviews and articles I've seen on him, he legit thinks he's making great films and doesn't see anything he does in them as cheep or hokey. In Wiseau's case he was one of the millions of dreamers who wanted to be the next great actor but he realized he had to lean into the hand he was dealt with The Room to stay in the limelight, Breen is just like "fucking nailed it, onto the next film."

I know it's not a movie but of all of the announced Marvel shows set for Disney+, this might be the one I am most excited outside of the What If...? cartoon. Looks to be a real nice mix of the Tom King Vision series and Avengers Disassembled/House of M.

    Twisted Pair (2018)

I have to assume this is just an excuse for Breen to call someone a bitch and not get punched over it, because he uses it A LOT in the film. Also I'm still trying to figure out why they didn't just make the girl at the end, who thinks he's his brother but shaven now, is not the same actress that has been playing Cale's girlfriend for the entire film. My friends and I were also a bit drunk watching this so we called his real estate office because we didn't know what we'd do if we called his cell number and he picked up, so I really hope the show tries to get him on the phone if they do another one of his movies.

    Twisted Pair (2018)

Yeah so I finally watched this movie last night with friends and that scene boggled our minds as it comes out of nowhere, especially as Cade is supposed to be the good guy of the two brothers. Then once we walked it back logically it is easily the biggest long game foreplay we have ever seen in a movie, because not only does he have that rushed attempt at trying to set up a meeting with her after bumping into her, they do it in front of the homeless guy so that they have a witness, and then the dude comes back to that spot to confirm with the homeless guy that he's been "stood up." If the end game is just to bang after some very physical rough housing, why go back to the homeless guy? Also I can see if there was an episode for this movie, a majority of it would be dedicated to this scene.

    Major Payne (1995)

If I've learned anything from the work of David Lynch, it's that always expect some unexpected evil to be just outside your white picket fence.

    Twisted Pair (2018)

The main question is... who wins in the inevitable battle among all of the Breens? Each are so amazing at everything so what tips it in favor of any one of them?

    Twisted Pair (2018)

What's funniest to me is that the graphics used for his virtual reality surgery isn't terrible for a micro-budget movie like this, but then you have the rest of it and it's barely above the level of those make your own music video shops that used to be in shopping malls. Also I would love to hear that he's been contacted by Marvel to direct a movie, but turned them down because they wouldn't let him use one of his characters in the movie. And if the movie gods are listening, the sequel to this movie will be his Avengers where all of his prior characters meet to battle a great evil, though I don't know if his green screen skills can handle that many Neil Breens.

    Domestic Disturbance (2001)

And from everything I've read about it and the trailers, it isn't like the two films where it first appears that the main character could have been guilty of the crime they're accused of, based on evidence shown to authorities, this new series is paper thin in that regard. Basically the guy is an ex-con and is at a subway that has a bombing take place, and when the FBI is looking through video surveillance, the lead agent Kiefer Sutherland sees this dude and says "it must have been him" and then the chase is on. This is also a judgement on social media fueling a given narrative without all of the evidence leading to a "trial by hashtag."

Isn't that awful looking Fugitive show on Qubi based on the old show and movie?

    Domestic Disturbance (2001)

I think both of these movies are favorites of John McAfee and his how he modeled the recent years of his life.

    Domestic Disturbance (2001)

Yeah the way Buscemi talked it made it seem like Vaughn turned state's evidence or that he was a lot better at hiding the trail of his crimes, hence his ability to throw money around town to curry favor with the locals. Someone like Buscemi coming in and causing problems could really effect either Vaughn's attempt at starting anew with a family or more likely given his short fuse, cause him to have to relocate and start over again if word got out for how he got his wealth.
