  1. The whole "Case Closed" segment at the end reminded me of a quote by Sartre. "Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past. It is not that they are afraid of being convinced. They fear only to appear ridiculous or to prejudice by their embarrassment their hope of winning over some third person to their side." -Jean-Paul Sartre, Anti-Semite and Jew An Exploration of the Etiology of Hate This guy was not arguing in good faith, and was blatantly waffling on the president's clear negative meaning in his comments while he dodges to try and talk about a "merit based" system, and Mattie B didn't have the presence of mind to think to mention that where one is from is not a "merit" etc. I hate to say it, but this is exactly how you DON'T interview fascists and white supremacists. This sort of interview is just what they want - a lot of time for them to spew their contradictory bigoted nonsense, and trying to untie it all to debunk it live and in the moment is damn near impossible. If they come out of things looking even just a bit sillier and dumber than the person trying to argue with them then they have *still* won, and you've done them a service by helping to legitimize their views.

    Introducing...Katie Couric

As a huge fan of The Wolf Den I'm totally stoked for this get. It screams increased earnings.
  3. Scott please, credit where it is due. Grand Admiral Thrawn.
  4. I'm sorry I had to stop listening at "he cured autism". A common criticism of this show and cracked in general is that you don't really bother citing your sources, and normally I'm there defending that, because let's face it this is a comedy show not some sort of forensic sciences show and if it's in the interest of comedy or just interesting food for thought then it's all good, but really you've just gone too far this time. Please, if you're going to be making specific medical claims, especially ones about a medical condition around which there is so much misinformation and weird advice from highly motivated groups of non-medical professionals, then at least check your own sources, check with other doctors *about* those sources, and then tell us those sources. The world of alt-med is full of cranks and weirdos spewing all sorts of nutty BS, and all you've done in this week's episode is absorb that BS and spew it back out at us, and this time it wasn't even funny or to illustrate some other salient point, we're all just sitting here covered in BS and we don't even get anything for it!

Episode 111 — Girl Next Door

And now the episode is up and hosted, but man I hate this new embedded version of the player - there are no volume controls. That's really inconvenient.

Episode 111 — Girl Next Door

Hey yo I don't know what's up with this episode but the file seems to be missing from sound cloud.
  7. Yo, Julian, Mao killed like 40 million of his own people. He's got Stalin and Hitler both beat in terms of mass murder. Admittedly a lot of that was sort of just due to his really bad agricultural policies more than killing political dissidents and death camps like Stalin and Hitler, though yeah, he did that stuff too. Definitely a really awful Chinese dictator, and one hell of a high bar to beat in terms of awful dictators. Check this shit out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mao
