Chicago Reader’s Tal Rosenberg and Chicago bred rapper Open Mike Eagle join MC Nocando and Jeff Weiss this week to discuss everything Chicago. The guys talk about the history of Chicago rap starting with rappers like Common & Twista all the way to Chief Keef & King Louie, how House & R&B music dominated Chicago radio, and why rappers rarely blow up in Chicago. Plus, Open Mike Eagle defines words from the Urban Dictionary and we learn how to do the percolator.

Common's album "can I borrow a dollar" was one of my favorite albums for a long time. It's a shame his stuff is just average now.

The square root of this PBR bit was gold.

I could listen to Mike Eagle allllllll day, and yes he does seem like the kind of dude you would want to kick it with.

Lupe Fiasco - not very good. Good call.

Ressurection is Common's gift to the world. Great ep. Segregated studio seating I see! :)

Mike Eagle is great, love that he's becoming a recurring guest.

being from Chicago I have a huge bias for Chicago rap so this was a fun listen.

I just wonder where Lupe went oh so wrong and crazy. At least he made The Cool which is a really awesome record.

Also the bits about the super segregation make me really sad for this wonderful city that is very diverse but so divided.

Great episode. Having Mike Eagle in that piece was like having a "grown up" around. I liked the dynamic and loved the topic. I have been in Chicago for over 8 years now and the South and West side are still largely a mystery to me. This episode helped to fill some of my gaps in. Keep em coming.
