Body Double (1984)

Recommended Posts

Peeping Toms, claustrophobia, graphic violence, gratuitous sex, blatant Hitchock rip-off, bad acting, and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. What more do you need?

I remember this movie with anger.

I was working on the school paper and I was given a pass for the night it opened. Asked out a gorgeous girl who I had been studying with recently, figured the time was right to start dating (or so I hoped).

Between the porno scenes and the giant drill, she was not impressed. Forget the friend zone, we were barely nodding acquaintances for the rest of our time at school.

Damn you DePalma!

An inventive kill with an amusing false start when the plug comes out of the wall. But then again, none of that really happened because it was all a dream.

The only saving grace of this movie is the cameo by national treasure Rob Paulson (the voice of Yakko) as the AD on the porno shoot. Everything else, pure garbage.

This movie is so outstandingly crazy. The plot depends on a porn actress being famous for a choreographed striptease routine. And the "porn set" is just a giant party/music video where Frankie Goes to Hollywood is performing, and the main character finds the porn actress he's been obsessing over/stalking, and just walks up and starts doing her without even introducing himself.

Brian DePalma was really working at, like, maximum filmmaking talent level and maximum pervy weirdness level at same time.

This would be absolutely great for the show. It's got weird violence, odd sexuality, and incoherent storytelling with an ending that's just bizarre. The imdb.com description really does it justice by describing it as a "baffling series of events".

I just re-watched this movie after not having even thought about it in more than 25 years! OMG!!!!! There is even a case for a whole Jacob's Ladder-like scenario for the ending.

C'mon guys, this is the perfect movie for HDTGM! Much better than the whole "FAST&Fuckall" franchise!
