EPISODE 114.5 — Minisode 114.5

Recommended Posts

Next week's movie: Sharknado 3...

Do we really have to? I would very much rather they did another Tyler Perry or Nicholas Sparks movie than Sharknado 3. Is it possible this time the joke will be on us and they actually do a Tyler Perry movie? At least that would be a fresh take on an old joke--y'know, the complete opposite from what we're going to get with Sharknado 3.

I mean, I get them doing the first Sharknado since it was such a big deal at the time. And Sharknado 2 needed to be done just to see what it was going to be about, but Sharknado 3 doesn't sound appealing to me at all.

I may have to skip watching the movie on this one as well. I'm sure the episode will be funny, and it will be great to have Aukerman on, but I'm not sure I'm going to subject myself to more raining sharks.

I'm glad it's not just me, then. After I made my post this morning, I thought I was just being curmudgeonly, but I'm glad to see there are others that agree.

I'm listening to this Minisode on a train, and my fellow passengers now think I'm (a*) mental due to my excitement at being read out on corrections and omissions and awarded the win...

I'm right there with you buddy! We did it! Made the cut! Creamed the crop!

And my job here is done. I have to go now, my planet needs me.

I was not in favor of these when they announced the first one way back in aught thirteen, but it made for a C+ ep so I've just adopted a live and let live philosophy. Plus, I can't wait to hear Scott's frustration that he had to sit through yet another Tyler Perry movie only to have it scrapped at the last minute for one of these turds.

Darn you, not-a-hard-and-fast-rule! I'm STILL waiting for a Smurfs 2 episode and/or just plain getting Paul F. Tompkins back on the show... though preferably talking about Smurfs in some capacity. Those shitty, shitty Smurfs movies specifically ;)

We did get PFT for two episodes in a row just a few months ago, though.

But yes, I can always do with more PFT in my life. Anyone that hasn't listened to the Heynong Man CBB episode needs to go do it now. PFT + Zouks is the best.

Wait, people like that actually exist?

I don't think cynical cash grabs make good HDTGM movies. I don't think there''ll be many corrections and omissions for Sharknado 3. We should think about topics to talk about when we quickly run out of things to say about Sharknado 3.

What makes the eppy even better for HDTGM fans are the callbacks to Lake Placid.

I would take an intentionally bad Troma film over an intentionally bad Asylum film any day.

I'll DVR and watch Sharknado 3, but I'll probably be doing something else at the same time and not pay much attention. I will listen to the HDTGM ep with my full attention though.

I'm sure it will come organically, kind of like how we went for over two pages talking about The Joker/Suicide Squad at the end of the Runaway thread.

The answer is yes. I have called someone by a different name during sex. I was going through the grieving process of getting divorced after returning home from iraq. I met with an old girlfriend from highschool when I got stationed in southern California. Thinking this was just a hangout in my current state of mind. I wasn't ready for getting pushed through my bedroom door and being mounted like some tacky taxidermy animal. My phone rang halfway through the sesh. I ignored the call but she prompted me to answer the phone thinking that it would be fun. So I answered the phone, it was my best friend. He asked what I was doing? While trying to multi task, I ended up calling her by my ex wife's name, only halfway but she understood. I then promptly hung up without saying a word to my best friend and spent 3 hours that night trying to explain to her the error of my ways. I apologized with deep sincerity and she finally came to terms with it being okay. Fast forward ten months later, we weren't working out and she happened to be on a cruise with her family. I wasn't going to be able to see her in person before I moved north and ended up breaking my own rules. I tried to break up with her over the phone which I felt terrible about but didn't have any other opportunity considering I was moving nine hours away. I then found out her grandma had just died that morning. I wasnt told this until after I broke up with her on the phone, I am an asshole.

I know. I was trying to be funny. I know that this forum sometimes go off in unexpected directions. In the last 2 threads there was a titanomachy in GIFs, a few forum members were suspected of being enemies of the state, and someone went on-and-on about California rolls. What if I suggest the topic, "Tell us how many times you cried during Inside Out, this is a safe space, you big baby," but then a Doctor Strange teaser trailer comes out. Or what if Sharknado 3 is actually interesting and people take upwards of 12 pages to talk about it (LOL).

Speaking of "LOL", maybe now would be a good time to check in with you all and see where you stand in your recovery from that movie.

The Sharknado franchise will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the first time someone asked me, "Are you okay?" while I was listening to the podcast - I was at work a couple months into what morphed into a 6-month QA project that broke my soul a little (but which was made better when I discovered and listened to all the eps of HDTGM...I scared a lot of people that summer by laughing at my desk), and when June did the monologue I just lost it. My office-mate thought I was crying. Oops.

That being said, I didn't watch Sharknado 2 and probably won't watch this one, either. I figure that once you've seen one, you get the idea, and that the harder they try, the less funny it is. I imagine it wouldbe almost as painful as the time I tried to watch Tommy Wiseau's "sitcom" The Neighbors...

I went to a screening of The Room that had a Q&A with Tommy that was 100% bonkers. Before the Q&A, they played an episode of Neighbors. I couldn't even follow wtf was going on. The audience's favorite part was the music they use for the establishing shot of the building, which was fortunate, because it crops up about every minute and a half.

I went to one too! The audio was so bad and so loud, especially when that lady ran around screaming over her lost chicken.... I'm a huge fan of The Room to the point that I've lost track of how many times I've seen it , so I felt like I had to try it out and see if it made more sense on Hulu, but I should've known better - it didn't. Usually banging out 3 episodes of a half-hour show is a piece of cake, but it was almost physically uncomfortable. I think there are more up, but I won't even try. Now that he's trying to be funny, it's aggressively unfunny.

After the show my friends and I went to get a picture with him - it was like 3 A.M. at this point, and he told us to watch out for vampires because our necks looked good for biting...never a dull moment with Tommy.

Jared was convicted of child pornography?

Paul is the first I've heard it from, but I can't find anything to support it.

He wasn't convicted of anything. He hasn't even been arrested or charged. Basically, the dude that ran his non-profit was busted for child pornography. Then some lady in Florida said that she had heard Jared make inappropriate remarks about middle school kids (although the FBI hasn't yet confirmed nor denied that was part of the impetus behind their investigation). Anyway, the FBI raided Jared's house, but they found nothing, so he wasn't even arrested. They haven't released many details yet, which is probably because it's part of an ongoing investigation into the other dude. Anything else is speculation at this point (and predominantly unfounded speculation, I might add).

Did he actually answer any questions at the one you went to? When I saw him, he basically said, "It doesn't matter; next question" to almost every question someone asked him.

Although I did get to see him sing a song to a newly married couple outside after the screening. And that was pretty amazing.

For all of those a little disappointed in Sharknado 3 as this week's movie, I would like to direct your attention to Julie and Jack (James Nguyen's movie before Birdemic) I had never heard of this movie, but Rifftrax just put it up on their site on Friday.

Needless to say, it is pretty fucking amazing.

It's a real romantic one, so grab your significant other one, hold them close, and feel the love spread all over your body.

I'm hoping this week's episode is just a big prank on us listeners to get us to watch the trainload of shit that Sharknado 3 will inevitably be, and the hosts, along with Mr. Auckerman, instead devote the podcast to how awesome Mad Max was. I mean, fuck, Fury Road is such a good movie!

I recently forced myself to watch Sharknado 1. 2 is going to happen soon. Then hopefully I can see this one live for the show.

HA no, he didn't, not really. I vaguely remember him bringing everyone who was wearing red dresses and tuxes onstage, giving people dog tags, and offering his commentary on circumcision for some reason...he was wearing 2 belts and I think he gave one to someone and demonstrated the proper way to put it on, cupping one's ass. He did say the fictional animal he most wanted to be was a tiger, so that is one question he actually answered. It was mostly just craziness.
