adore? i didn't think it was a HDTGM movie. i've passed it over many times on my to watch list. i don't even think it's in the "bad movie recommendations" section. SlidePocket is going to have to open up a new rec thread.

and it's on netflix over here!!! .. that hasn't happened in a while ... i think the last HDTGM movie available on our netflix was bodyparts .... which is exactly a year ago ... a bit of a useless stat there if paul is reading.

I just had this movie posted on the recommendation section. Anyone else familiar with it?

I saw it last year I believe (maybe 2016) because I was genuinely interested in it...... and I really loved it.......

I'm very surprised to see this come up on this podcast because even if it's not the greatest movie it's certainly not something I would've asked, "How did this get made?"

One of the minor joys of my life is when they announce a movie that I am in no way expecting. I have never even heard of this, but it sounds very Safe Haven/Boy Next Door so it's right up my alley ;)

In fact, I'd say my only complaint about live episodes is knowing which movies are coming so far in advance. I mean, it's cool for getting prepared, but nothing beats a nice surprise.

Honestly - spoiler alert - it's really not. It's more indie drama than romantic mystery. I think if you go in with that mindset you'll be bored.

I love being surprised and this is the most surprising movie since Bratz. I'm still kind of curious about how HDTGM it is but we'll see. I'll trust Paul.

I don't follow HDTGM on any social media except to prepare for the Chicago shows (and I'll probably unfollow them once the shows are over). So, everything is kind of a surprise. But Johnny Mnemonic is way less of a surprise than Adore.

i don't think it is. if there is a twist i doubt it's gonna be anything like safe haven's and it can't be as stupid as boy next door surely. i remember it getting some terrible reviews when it came out so i've avoided it. it was a sundance favourite when it was released as "Two mothers" but it was downhill after that. i just thought it was one of those let's try to be scandalous but really it's just a dumb movie for randy people .. i guess we'll have to watch it to see what the guest was thinking.

and i'm not sure this is the first movie picked by a guest ... i thought there was at least one other ... was it one of the live shows from a while back??

i've been feeling like this for a while. i've avoided hdtgm on social media because of it. i'm not giving out about them posting the upcoming movies for the live shows .. the people going need to know .. but it definitely takes away from the buzz of the announcement ... like this one. when paul introduced it i was like "adore? is it adore? it is adore!!! why are they doing adore???" ... it was a fun moment and i miss that.

and i'm assuming since this wasn't announced previously it's a studio episode and that maybe june was there? the whole gang back together ... and maybe paul disappoints june by getting caught up in the randiness of it all with jason... they're some of my favourite moments.

It's not really that either.... I mean maybe they were trying to be "scandalous" but what I liked about this movie was that they took the subject of two mothers falling in love with each other's sons and didn't turn it into some sex romp that highlighted the intense weirdness surrounding the situation, but rather dealt with it gently and genuinely.

It's hard to talk about it without actually talking about it, but I think going in thinking, "Oh this was a Sundance favorite so what happened?" is the best way to go into it.

It’s less that I like “romantic mystery,” and more that I like the movies where the insanity is more subtle.

Like of course Geostorm is stupid, but watching Julianne Hough give up carrying two small cans of “Fresh Start” primer after ten feet is the kind of shit I live for. :)

I have white-guy-face-blindness like Paul and this movie is maaaaaaaaad weird. Every now and again I'd mentally reverse the genders and it would get even more weird. I'd bet June doesn't make it to the end of the movie.

there has been a show on in the UK for the last few years called Taskmaster. some of you may have heard of it. for those who haven't, it's honestly one of the funniest shows in years. i'm writing this because ye are about to get your

and even though there are some hilarious people involved, including the creator of the show, Alex Horne, it looks ... let's be polite ... a little too polished ... it's very bright .. and scripted ... but fingers crossed it's as funny as the UK version but before it comes out there i'd like to suggest to everyone to go back and watch the original. it's on UKTV Play for free (you'll need a VPN from outside the UK) ... i'm tempted to go back and watch it again. reggie watts has a huge set of shoes to fill ..literally ... watching Greg Davis giving someone a bollocking for failing a stupid task is hilarious ... and every guest on it was brilliant. it had some of the funniest people in the UK and Ireland on it ... i'm building it up too much .. just go watch and hopefully you'll enjoy it.

People can do what they want to their own bodies. It's unusual to go from apparently no tattoos to a giant back piece in your 40s though.

Arrrgh! This is going to bother me now! I keep thinking it's Brian Posehn and Cobra, but if I remember correctly, that was a situation where Paul gave him options and he just happened to already own the movie.

But there was definitely someone more recently. I seem to remember Jason giving them shit about it. Like, "I want to know why you thought we needed to see this?"

A phoenix is just so on the nose, though. Like I just hear him talk about what he wants. "It's a phoenix. It's head held high. A cry of triumph on its beak. It's wings spread heroically on my back - rising from the ashes. And, do you want to know a secret? I'm that Phoenix."

I have this too! Glad I'm not alone. I love watching Midsomer Murders but have no idea who anyone but a couple of the characters are. (Though one time the bad guy was in fact an identical twin to someone else, so even a stopped clock is right twice a day and all that...)

To be fair, Affleck has had the arm tattoos for a while now, and it has been suspected for years that he had his back done.

As for this movie, it's odd in that it's not outwordly insane like other HDTGM movies outside of if you just heard the premise by chance. After almost 30 minutes in I'm kind of disappointed in that the premise would be better suited if the two female leads were in a secret relationship rather than with each others sons, because Watts and Wright have some really good chemistry with one another. The actual son swapping flings are kind of mishandled since they are basically thrust upon the screen with less subtlety than some pornos, almost to the point where I think they are acting this way because the actors have read the script and know how the movie proceeds a la Steven Seagal in The Glimmer Man.

I'm now really interested in seeing who recommended this movie, because as stated, there wasn't even a thread in the recommendation section for this.

This makes me look really stupid but my white guy face blindness is limited entirely to Captain America: Civil War. For some reason, I could not differentiate between Sebastian Stan and Daniel Bruhl even though they don't look similar, I've seen every Marvel movie and several movies with them.

I spent the first two hours thinking Bucky and Zemo were the same person and Bucky was still secretly evil. I was super confused and didn't figure it out until they were on screen together.

I've always been curious how much Paul, or the interns, actually even read the recommendations section. I know Paul has asked here for suggestions but there are hundreds of posts in the recommended movies.

I know Paul had said things like "people have said for years to do this movie" but does anyone know how much is from the recommendations threads. I'd assume, at this point, Paul gets recommendations every day in person, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
