Episode 191.5 - Minisode 191.5

Don't forget Big Trouble also had Dennis Farnia, who was coming off of Reindeer Games and Mod Squad and Snatch and was a couple of years out from Law and Order

Yeah on paper Big Trouble seemed like a solid win with the people involved, but then it was just a jumbled mess. It's an odd thing where the characters themselves are pretty good for the most part, namely Farina's hitman and Wharburton and Garofalo as the cops, but the main characters of Allen, Russo,Sizemore just fall flat while having Jason Lee narrate as hippy hobo Jesus added nothing to the film.

If you're an idiot like me who still pays for cable, Striptease is available on Cinemax (because of course it is).

In perfect Paul fashion he mispronounced Hannah's name so I'm sure it doesn't matter everyone can find it but it's not Goldsby it's Hannah Gadsby. But yes every single person needs to watch Nanette because it's absolutely beautiful and a true piece of art.

It's absolutely essential watching. Whatever you're planning on watching, it's not as worth your time as Nanette.

Has anyone watched season 2 of Glow yet? Since pretty much every second season of a Netflix series is a step down, I'm hesitant to start this.

I did and I think it's better than the first, but I also don't agree that every second season is a step down cause I still absolutely loved season 2 of Jessica Jones and season 2 of Luke Cage is in my opinion much better than season 1.

Well apparently someone yelled "How's yo dick?!" at Nicole Byer and she legit didn't remember she had said that on the Bloodsport episode so FYI to anyone that meets her not to yell that at her cause she's not gonna respond the way you want her lol.

That sounds like something the “Jason of the group” might do.

Do we really need to remind people not yell crazy shit at people they don’t know? Why the fuck would she remember an off-the-cuff joke she made, like, two years ago?

I should correct that not every second season is bad. I find that, other than Kimmy Schmidt, I haven't liked a second season I've watched as much.

I didn't watch the second seasons of Jessica Jones or Luke Cage. I'm just over Marvel shows for now.

I'm just finding them too much of a time commitment. 13 hour-long episodes with a lot of wheel-spinning? And how many shows are there? Argh.

Its weird how we've practically cut a television season in half and that's too long now.

I agree with both you and Sy. They started off strong, but I haven’t watched a Season all the way through since The Defenders (and I believe that was only 8 episodes). Like Sy said, it’s time I could be using to be watching/doing something else. Maybe if they get interesting again, but I feel like it’s just more of the same tire kicking crap.

I think I've liked every season of Grace and Frankie better than the season prior, but that's me. I'm easy to please. I even like The Blues Brothers ;)

Yeah, but it also used to be that you could jump into a TV series at any time, because you weren't required to understand past plots.

Plus there were only like four channels actually making new shows. Everything else was reruns.

At least she's in good company.

There is one connection between "Striptease" and "Showgirls". Rena Riffel, who played Penny in Showgirls, shows up in Striptease as well as a fellow dancer!

Believe it or not, the novel on which this is based provides a much better portrayal of Demi Moore's character and it would be interesting to see if June's (100% legit) complaints about the film are the same for the book. The book isn't as leering obvs, and the characters are more 3D, and with Carl Hiaasen he manages to make you believe that yes, mad shit like this really does happen in Florida.

I might have watched season 1 and 2 back to back then watched 3 later. I think you're right about season 2 being better but season 3 I didn't like as much (but it was still okay)

The grossest thing about that scene is that I feel like it took zero convincing for him to do it. Like if they hadn't asked him to he might have just done it anyways.

I honestly wonder if he was the one who thought "Oh yes I'll lube up my ENTIRE body INCLUDING FEET" Like maybe the script just meant the chest and stuff we see?

It actually kinda is. When you start work in most jobs related to criminals at all, you have to disclose any possible relationship with a criminal before you start work, otherwise it's grounds for termination. When I started as a librarian at the prison I work at, they gave me a sheet to fill out asking if I knew any inmates currently housed in the facility, so that they could move them to another facility, so there would be no chance of collusion or informality. My supervising librarian recently went through this as her mother-in-law admitted to being a penpal to an inmate in the facility for a very long time. She had to let our supervisor know, the assistant wardens, and the warden, for full transparency and to have the guy removed from the facility. So if it's like that for librarians in a prison, it's much more for someone working for a federal agency like the FBI and CIA.

In regards to woman becoming a stripper to save her kids, the only time I remember it being flipped was in the Dave Barry book which later became the film Big Trouble, where one of the side characters played by Patrick Wharburton when he lost his family because he was fired for running through an airport nude in order to get away from vengeful TSA agents. It's kind of a weird film.

The one thing I remember about this movie was all of the hype about Demi Moore being nude, since she was also then the highest paid actress in history for the role. This then led into the uber-hype for GI Jane when the big deal for that was she was getting her head shaved.

And no real big spoiler, but I just finished season 2 of Luke Cage and the only thing I'm upset by

is that there was no Usain Bolt cameo, especially with how it's set up throughout the season. I mean really Marvel, you couldn't have had one episode end with him coming to Harlem to see if Cage is truly faster?

This is fascinating. But i would assume as it's her Ex husband and she's trying to get sole custody of her child she could tell her job she's trying to cut him out of her life entirely. If she admitted to knowing him she might get maybe a demerit for not disclosing it before but I guess I'm surprised she could be fired for it.

i would have to disagree with you . Personally I wished we had less time with Sam this season and more time with some of the other girls. I still loved it though. I LOST it when the brakedancing sequence happened and all i could think was June fuming about how just because something is difficult doesn't make it good! Truly this podcast has helped my me enjoy other things in my life so much more. I saw idiot teens trying to do the little jump hump move in the park the other day and instead of feeling old and"get off my lawn" I felt happy and wanted to scream RAD ( I did not because no one wants to be " that" weird adult. Besides we already have a very nice man who dresses like a full on fucking wizard in my town. I would never be that adult even if I tried)

I think this comes from OITNB, but there's a good reason; the first season is based on Piper Kerman's actual experiences in prison whereas everything that follows is completely imagined

I think House Of Cards as well. Didn't the first season cover the entire British trilogy?

Anyway, I'm most the way through Glow and I think it's a much stronger season. There are a couple episodes in the middle that had me on the verge of tears. Overall, I think it's a funnier season as well.

So far I've liked the second season of Glow as much as the first and felt that Luke Cage was a vast improvement over the first, as it seems to be following the model started in the Punisher where there is a solid B storyline interwoven with the main story, which was the problem for all of the first seasons of the Marvel Netflix shows. I'm still ticked that there wasn't an Usain Bolt cameo for Luke Cage season 2 tho

I'm just finding them too much of a time commitment. 13 hour-long episodes with a lot of wheel-spinning? And how many shows are there? Argh.

I do think the seasons should be max ten episodes a season, especially if there is no B story to pump up the main story. Defenders as an eight episode mini-series worked because of this reason, despite its other issues.

In regards to Striptease, I am ten minutes in and have so many issues. First, that judge overseeing the child custody case would be removed from the bench so quickly after an appeal was filed due to blatant favoritism shown to one party in the case. Also I don't who the fuck is helping Demi Moore on her appeal, but no way in hell should it cost 15k, any court will take a filing without cost, so long as you fill out the proper forms and show that you cannot afford the filing cost. Plus her being a stripper would not play into it so long as she shows she's working at a steady rate and has a proper home and can provide for the child's needs.

As for the strip club, I think it would be better suited to be called a burlesque club that shows nipples. In the times that I have gone to a club, there are no real costumes outside of holiday times like Christmas, and each dancer performs for a couple songs, before the next comes up. The only time there's something like shown in this club is when there's a guest/featured dancer like a porn star there. Also any club worth a damn has more than one bouncer, especially on busy nights. If a patron got onto the stage, he wouldn't be kindly asked to get off stage, he would be dragged out of there like the cowboy in Casino. Plus, any worker leaving the club is escorted to their car by a bouncer to prevent a patron getting too close, like in the case of Jerry with the roses at the start of the film.

Finally, did anyone else get the feeling that Burt Reynolds saw Weekend at Bernie's and used that as inspiration for how he would act as a drunk while at the club. When he hit the guy with the bottle he literally was bouncing around like Bernie including the glasses.
