Episode 26 — Jingle All The Way

Recommended Posts

You'd think that the comedic prowess of Arnold Schwarzenegger, the acting talents of Sinbad, and the star power of a Jim Belushi cameo would make for the ultimate Christmas movie! Instead we have an illogical and unbelievable commercial masked as a movie. Join the How Did This Get Made? crew and Joe Mande for this bonus holiday episode and listen in to hear if your Eardrop made it! Happy Holidays!

Though I won't go so far as to give this film a five star review, I will say this is one of my favorite terrible guilty pleasures around the holidays. It's ridiculous and awful, but I don't think it's a boring movie.

Also, I'm always interested to know, especially in bad films, what later happened to the child actors. According to Wikipedia, the kid that played Jamie is "best known for his performances in the films Jingle All the Way and Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace." It doesn't look like he's seen much work since. Judging by the two major films he's starred in, I have to say, I'm not surprised.

Yay, Joe Mande! I love the Goof Troop! But did he even get introduced at all? Great episode, loved that you piccked up the final scene was the same as in Old Dogs, but I think they missed discussing the best moment of the movie:

you've no idea how happy this actually makes me. my nephew has ADHD and fixated on JATW for YEARS. He would watch it multiple times a day if we let him. I don't like christmas movies, generally, and while I'm an Arnold fan, I have my limits. I've seen this movie literally dozens of times, maybe more than a hundred, which is so many more times than I've seen any movie that I like. Thank you. toogentlemen.blogspot.com

Great work. If you guys are looking to go over more movies from the mid nineties, revolving around toys, and featuring Phil Hartman, then you guys should review Small Soldiers. There are a ton of comics in it for no reason. Plus, they design the toys to feel pain for some reason.

I agree two episodes one week... brilliant..

This movie always reminds me of Umberto Eco's essay "How To Recognize Pornography". Actually, most movies get a relcass after reading that...

Oh yeah I am still campaigning that "I <3 Huckabees" get a slot on this show at some point.... when you have things like this how can you go wrong?

I actually thought this movie was pretty good. This one and All About Steve weren't bad... I could see where they were coming from and there were definitely some smart and clever jokes involved. In this one, Sinbad saying he knows what he's talking about because he took a psychology class at a community college is pretty funny. And the guy talking to Arnold about the TurboMan actor who ended up in the hospital. He said that the guy had "some brain activity this morning.. so that's good".. or something like that. I'm just sayin'.. .It was kind of funny and not as vomitrocious as Catwoman.

And, I agree with Foam Corner, this guest sounds exactly like Harris Wittels.. and it made me happy.

I would totally greenlight a grim and gritty remake of this. Keep it as street-level as Big Fan, cast a couple of guys who know how to play darkly funny , like Patton Oswalt as the box spring king and Louie C.K. as the postman, have the fights and violence have real-world consequences, portray both characters as losing their minds, but Louie on a real suicide spiral, bombing people and killing cops, then have the postman get shot right as the boy hands the toy to him. Right through the toy.

This episode was a great pitch meeting. Also really funny. Joe Mande blended smoothly into your mix. He came and he gave without taking.

New fan of the show! I was just listening to this one and was hoping you guys would touch on something that I swore I heard when I saw this years ago and always kind of freaked me out.

In this family holiday flick, when Sinbad punches Booger off the float and the kids start beating him one of them yells "WE DON'T LIKE YOU FAG!" Was that what he said? Did that really make the cut?

The kid definitely says "fag" when beating Booster, which is funny when you see blogs about that line and one person had written that because of the line his Christmas was ruined. Really? Jingle All the Way's homophobe kid ruined Christmas?

Also I remember going to Universal Studios in the summer before this came out and they were still filming the final parade scenes there, so they put the whole setting in the backlot tour and made a BIG deal about it as if this was the second coming. And then for some reason my parents got me that shitty Turboman toy for Christmas. The thing was nearly immobile, shot little disks that got stuck in the launcher, and had a voice chip that spat out taglines in a voice from someone other that Arnold.

Ohh ok, thanks for explaining or sharing. :D

edited later, I noticed every website on the known planet is reporting about Arnold's new love of reddit and youtube.

One thing that I burst out laughing at in this episode was when Paul said the line "why would I want a Turboman doll when I have the real thing at home?" and June just says "credits."

Did anyone else notice that the Big Santa who inadvertantly punches the Midget Santa was actually the guy who would eventually become WWE wrestler, The Big Show?
