Episode 35 — Tiptoes

Recommended Posts

There is no tiptoeing around it, this movie blows! Not even a French Peter Dinklage in cornrows can save this non-comedy about a full-sized dwarf dealing with his wife's pregnancy. Not sold yet? Neither is Dave Holmes who joined us in watching this Sundance "Official Selection." Check out Tiptoes if you haven't yet, and pick up a brand new How Did This Get Made? shirt!

Here goes... what a painful experience this movie was. :S

If Dinklage hadn't stated that he was French I would have thought he was Austrian.

LOL Kermit legs!.. i said exactly that.

Great show guys.

Great Show. I really had no interest in seeing this, but the fact that you guys actually recommended it means I might now. Would love to find out if you ever find the 2-hour version. Also, I looked it up, and that girl Sally is a porn actress in real life!

Also... Thank you thank you thank you for not having that horrible earwolf sign-off. Not only is it super loud and annoying, it's cringe-worthy regarding how not funny it is. Whenever I don't catch it in time to turn off, it kills whatever buzz I'm on after listening to your show. It made me not all that intereted in exploring the rest of the podcasts on the site. It feels disrespectful like their stepping all over the shows. There's no reason for it to come in with howls and yelling ultra-compressed and full blast and last as long as it does. When I'm wearing headphones, it's actually painful. Sorry, rant over.

Blackmail. Someone had blackmail photos of some sort involving Gary Oldman. That's the only explanation I can accept.

I agree with everything you guys said about it, especially the circlejerking midgets, a scene I rewatched at least three times to make sure I heard it correctly.

Now that I know that the film was originally 2.5 hours long, it makes so much more sense. The jump cuts, the incomprehensible story, the fact that Peter Dinklage's character just disappears near the end, the non-sensical ending. I want to see this directors cut.

Also I did a search for Tiptoes fanfiction, nothing.

By the end of this episode I was convinced that event was really called the "Midget GLAAD Awards."

I was a little bummed that you guys kept using the word "midget" even though it's clearly offensive to little people. But...idk, maybe it's not a big deal? Is it like saying the N-word or is it like saying Black instead of African American, where only uptight people really care about the difference? Hard to say. I'm not a little person. But why risk it, if you're not sure? Why bother offending an entire group of people? What does truly harsh my buzz (yo) is when you guys throw around the word "retarded." Definitely not an okay thing. And I wouldn't say I'm the easily offended type (how could I be, watching these movies every week?).

Anyway, it was thoroughly entertaining as always. I really don't want to sound like "that guy" with those complaints up there. This is, by and large, my favorite podcast. But as far as being socially aware, you guys could step it up. That's fair, right?

It was pretty disgusting to hear the term "midget" used so flippantly during this podcast. Jason seemed like the only one who consciously chose to say "drawf" or "little person." These people really hear enough insensitivity thrown at them throughout their lives from little children, hacky radio DJs and general assholes - it's dissappointing to hear the same from smart and socially aware comedians. I hope you sell a lot of t-shirts though.

I never did finish watching this after watching half of it while wasted. I figured that nothing I would see would make the movie make any more sense than it did when I thought it was a drunken fever dream. Judging from the sounds of this episode, I was right.

1:09...

"He's the head of >indistinguishable< at Cedar >indistinguishable<..."

"So call him!"

"So how many dwarf babies does he have?"

"They usually say they do about half a dozen a year."

"So get me one!"

"I don't know if there's been one done, but he can definetly get you all the sonograms."

So get me one?!?!? Like, go steal me a dwarf baby from the hospital??

If you pretend that Tiptoes is an ironic drama ghost written by Zach Galifianakis, it's pretty hilarious.

So you're saying using the words "midget" and "retard" is always totally cool and no one has a right to be offended by them? I don't want to get into a fight here, because anyone who's okay with Liz Lemon is okay with me, but I feel it's a bit ignorant to pretend that those words don't offend people.

Are the planets out of whack or something?! I've been watching multiple threads in multiple shows all day just waiting for the shit to hit the fan for realsies.

I feel like I should remain impartial on things and not contribute but there's so much going on and just... serious heart palpitations.

I need to go lie down.

I think what he was saying was more along the lines of..."this is a comedy podcast." The cast of this podcast barely says the word midget, they all use "dwarf" or "little people" for the vast majority of the episode. Besides, half of the banter on this show is inappropriate because that's how friends talk about bad movies. Laugh at it in context or don't. Either way please take the super sensitive, passive aggressive bullshit somewhere else.

P.S. I don't think Jason said literally one time in this episode. Literally not one time.

As I said in another thread, I couldn't bear to watch this movie even after I saw it for $2 at a record store closing, but I did watch the two youtube videos of just Peter Dinklage's scenes and it...was...BAFFLING

I'm really glad they brought up his awful accent because it really is awful.

As one of the comments points out, the video makes it seem like it's just a movie about two little people who hate each other going on a road trip and picking up a weird hippy hitchhiker. Which would be a way better movie, honestly.

here it is if anyone is interested...
