Archive episodes; commercial volume control

I've recently been re-listening to old episodes and had to re-download them to do so... I'm not complaining about the commercials, I understand why they're there, but the volume from show to commercial is terrible. It's low to extremely loud, like a bang, bang. It always makes me jump and pops my car speakers. Plus, the commercials usually come after a song and I normally turn the volume up to listen to the songs so then it's even worse when a commercial comes on.

 

Can something be done?

I used to actually burn the episodes onto cds because I had lost my ipod and my car only has a cd player so I have a lot of the old episodes on cds and I've been ripping them back into itunes and deleting the archived versions because, yes, that is annoying.
