Episode 15 — Music Fun!

Recommended Posts

Join Jeff and special musical guest/co-host Eban Schletter as they delve into the world of fatherhood. Many topics are discussed including gender norms, the "other n-word," and environmental activism.  Also, Schletter gives Jeff advice about what to expect from older children and we get to hear some hilarious songs written and performed by Schletter! This episode is fairy-princess worthy!

The show can't end Jeff, dad's everywhere need this. I mean how would current or even future dad's comprehend what they are in for if they didn't here Eban's perfectly critiqued notion of how we are born into selfishness and how this relates to his experience with his kids. The show should go on with or without Dave. I think we can all agree that we love Dave, but to me it's more interesting to hear other dad's and their experiences. I think it helps to get multiple point of views on subjects that we all contemplate every day as dads. Maybe you could get an intern to do the bookings? I don't know, but it would be a shame to end it now. I was already looking forward to hearing your most likely change of opinion, once Arden starts walking and talking, on certain subjects.

One last thing, Eban is dead on about reasoning with your children. Throw reason out the window during arguments with them because it will only get you worked up and serves no purpose. For example, my 3 1/2 year old daughter knows that every week day she has to get up and get dressed to go to school. Even though she knows that this is the case and understands it, it doesn't mean she will do this without throwing a temper tantrum.......every time!

So far every guest you have had on the show in replace of Dave has been great. Is it possible that one of these individuals could be Dave's understudy for the weeks he can't do it? It would be great to have a different weekly guest, but I understand completely that causes a major headache that you can't deal with. Just having someone be the replacement Dave would be a fine fix to me, but maybe finding someone to do that would be difficult. You could even get Scott to come in and pretend Rocky is his child and I'd be happy. I don't want this show to end, so no matter what it becomes I am behind it.

Seriously, please don't end this show. Just forget Dave as a cohost, just have him as a 'regular guest' when he can come on. Otherwise, find someone to book for you. We need this.

I'm out if Dave's out. I'm just not a enough of a fan of Jeff's personality to keep listening.

I also think Dave brings a balance to the show that no guest has been able match. Jeff is a book smart dad, we need a dad like Dave who several years experience. A couple of young dads just can't address issues that older dads are facing.

This is a great podcast and I would be genuinely sad to see it see you stop doing it. I think that there have been a lot of good ideas already about how to keep the show going like getting an intern to book guest, or having guest on for a couple weeks rather than just episode. Having if you could just find a handful of dads who could each do the podcast for a couple of weeks at a time then that fill up a lot of time between Dave's return to the show.

maybe it's just me, but to me, i don't care if the show changes its format, or if it becomes semi-regular...just keep it going! i've enjoyed both the "regular" episodes with Dave, and the ones with guest co-hosts. it's the conversation that matters, and in every episode i've gleaned some great information. maybe if it comes to it, someone else can host the show, but Jeff can still be involved!

also, to get political for just a moment, i really liked the comment about the core value of "society" vs "every man for himself". it's too bad more people don't think in shades of gray like that, only that it's "socialists" vs. "libertarians"...like everything else, there has to be a middle ground!

Then have other guests on, like the Sklar Brothers.

Great stuff again. I have a 5 yr old daughter and 2 year old son. In regards to dressing like a princess, my son loves to, b/c my daughter does. If I'm being perfectly honest, I have to admit at time it bothers me. Then I tell myself, if the ages were reversed, would I care if my daughter dressed like a superhero. The answer is no.

Just finished recording the ep for Thanksgiving with Jason Sklar. Get out of my head Lukas Holmes!

As a dad who also has his own dad podcast, the competitive voice in me says, "Yes, End it!" But really, I love this show and need the conversations to continue because they keep me sharp and on my toes as a father. Having Jeff's "book smart" point of view toward parenting is fresh for me (and sometimes amusing) and I don't necessarily think there HAS to be a second dad everytime. If the consensus is that this show needs another person to help book guests and continue going, I will volunteer happily to help book guests. I'm sure I could do it just fine from here in rainy Olympia, WA.
