BEeff (Bertran, Evan and every fucking female) join MC Nocando & Jeff Weiss this week to talk about the great beefs in Hip-Hop history. They discuss the historic showdown between Kool Moe Dee and Busy Bee, KRS-One firing shots at The Juice Crew, Ice Cube annihilating N.W.A, Eazy-E & Dr. Dre’s West Coast feud, Canibus recruiting Mike Tyson for “Second Round K.O,” 2pac’s most insulting diss, Eminem taking down Benzino & The Source, 50 Cent ruining Ja Rule’s career, and Jay-Z’s “Takeover” versus Nas’ “Ether.” Plus, they talk about the real beef between Gucci Mane & Young Jeezy, the multimedia beef between 50 Cent & Rick Ross, and the light skinn'ded beef between Common & Drake.

This marks the third time the Nas/Jay-Z rivalry has been discussed on an Earwolf podcast (and the second time this week!) Jensen Karp has brought it up in multiple shows, on Fogelnest Files and on Who Charted.

Why can't other genres of music have as prolific beef-offs (beef-outs?) as hip-hop? Dueling indie rock bands would amuse me greatly... can you even imagine, like, The Mountain Goats squaring off against of Montreal?

I feel like they do! Elton John and Madonna. Neil Young and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Toby Keith and the Dixie Chicks. There are so many stories of diva beefs, not to mention that a lot of rock bands seem to have them with their own members.

Are there diss songs for any of these rivalries? I would like to hear them.

Also, I feel this video touches on a lot of the concepts discussed in this episode:

Heck, yeah! First thing that comes to mind are Sweet Home Alabama lyrics:

"Well, I heard Mr. Young sing about her
Well, I heard ol' Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don't need him around anyhow."

Here's what Nocando was talking about where the fat Samoan dude punched someone in a battle. I'm glad to hear that Nocando beat him up. :)

I thought of this video too when Nocando was telling his story. This is a really great clip, especially when Capitol Hill realizes he will never be able to recover from this at 1:15.

Jack the Ripper was my favorite song as a kid. Honestly just hip-hop beefs by themselves could be the focus of a long-running podcast. I hope this episode is just Beef, Vol. 1 as far as Shots Fired goes.
