    EPISODE 124 - Hackers

100% onboard with you on this one. Loved the music. Especially Massive Attack, and that song playing during the "spinning phone box" hack scene. The Matrix totally ripped this off.

    EPISODE 124 - Hackers

Just wondering if we need to consider inducting Fisher Stevens into the HDTGM Hall of Fame/Shame. So far he's been in: Super Mario Bros LOL and now, Hackers. That's a quality acting reel.

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned Jasons' cameo.

    EPISODE 123 - Lifeforce

Adjusting for inflation, that puts it at about $55 million (in todays dollars). Not astronomical by any stretch, but considering Forest Gump, Captain Phillips and the Kill Bill movies were all made on budgets of approximately $55 million, you'd have to think that the investors might feel a little short changed by the results. It's listed as grossing $11.6 million at the box office.

    EPISODE 122.5 - Minisode 122.5

I really enjoyed "Wild Wild West" as one of the earlier gems. Kevin Smith was such a great guest and had some amazing behind-the-scenes stories. Although, I have to say that June's Monkeyshines breakdown was what made me fall in love with this podcast.

EPISODE 122 - Death Spa: LIVE!

I was thinking they could do a segment called "Bizarro World Oscar Noms" (surely someone can come up with a better name than that). Basically the guys invent a category for the Oscars in which pretty much only this movie would ever win, let alone receive a nomination. Examples. "Best use of a Betamax reference in a Horror/Comedy Flick" - Outdated Fit Guy - Death Spa "Best Supporting Actor - 3 to 4 lines of dialogue" - Comedic Relief Guy - Death Spa "Outstanding Cameo by an Actor/Actress who obviously made several poor career choices" - Tied: Karyn Parsons & Chelsea Fields. Thoughts?

EPISODE 122 - Death Spa: LIVE!

I think that is probably giving this film WAY too much credit. The general nature of the Beta vs VHS argument was about the Quality and price. Betamax was considered a higher quality product, in both construction and recording, but cost significantly more to purchase. VHS was the cheaper alternative which became more widely accepted as an entry level option. In short, Beta was better, VHS was cheap. The worst part for this one-liner is that Beta was pretty much dead by 1988 (two years before the US release of this movie). If this movie had come out a few years earlier, audiences be like

Merritt Butrick aka David. I've never understood that weird hybrid accent of his. Turns out Death Spa was his final film. He died in 1989 before this film was released. What an homage!

EPISODE 122 - Death Spa: LIVE!

    MATHS TIME!!!! (prepare yourself
. This is a little long) In response to the whole self-immolation thingo that Paul raised, I thought I'd run the numbers on what it would take to turn a human being into unrecognisable ash. The average american woman weighed 141.7 pounds (aged between 20-29 for the 1988–94 date range) (from the 2002 CDC Report on Body Weight & BMI) The average temperature required to ensure disintegration of a body in modern crematorium conditions is 1700 degrees Fahrenheit (1600-1800 normal operating temperature) The fastest burning time under ideal conditions is 110 pounds per hour Based on these numbers it would take 1 hour 17 mins to roast this sucker. So...... Gasoline burning temperature, while difficult to nail down specifically based on conditions, could be estimated to burn at approximately 1733 degrees Fahrenheit The problem is that the fuel source would’ve burnt out in a very short space of time. Most likely under 30 mins. More than likely Catherine started a grasslands fire as a result of this act. Grassland fires can burn between 1472-1832 degrees Fahrenheit. However, they move too quickly at about 25km per hour to keep one area burning for the required amount of time. TLDR. The fire couldn’t possibly have burned for long enough under the conditions for Catherine to have been turned into unrecognisable ash. As an interesting point of reference. ThĂch QuáșŁng Đức, the Self-immolation monk (Vietnam 1963) had to be re-cremated after the act. Most of his body remained intact. Possibly still recognisable, but definitely not ash. My Theory. Whoever pushed her up to the top of that hill probably stoked the fire halfway through to keep her going. Because, fuck Catherine. Suspects: Michael, because Catherine was cramping his style with all her wheelchair-iness Laura. So she could have Michael all to herself David. Because, according to this movie, twins are evil and weird. That barracuda from the freezer.

Great doco. Can we just do their entire back catalogue? Canon belong in the HDTGM hall of fame alongside Cage & Travolta.

    EPISODE 120.5 - Minisode 120.5

Strongly Agree. Had to watch this over half a dozen sittings. Just got bored. I kept looking for all this hidden deeper meaning to it all, like thinking Jamie Lee Curtis was Mackenzies sister or something, but nope..... it's just a one-dimensional snooze fest. Also wouldn't recommend the 5 min workout scene where Travolta and Curtis are just thrusting their hips at each other. Jesus, we get it! They've been playing "Special Places"

My Top 5 Episodes: 1. Furious 7 2. The Island of Dr. Moreau 3. Jupiter Ascending 4. Con Air 5. Deep Blue Sea My Top 5 Movies: 1. Furious 7 2. Tango and Cash 3. Hercules in New York (but only because of that Bear fight) 4. Con Air 5. Face Off Some solid eps this year. And I really appreciate how they've been mixing it up lately with some crazy old school movies. Hercules in New York was intense, especially watching the version where they dubbed Arnie. Definitely the highlight has to be the Furious franchise stuff they're doing. So much fun because they are all 100% committed to it. Except June, who may or may not have actually watched any of these movies. Seriously can't wait for Fastest and Furiousest 8.
