Topics I've Started

Blast From the Past (1999)

My friend and I were joking halfheartedly about the news cycle and this movie came up. Good lord its weird.

A naive man (Brendan Fraser) comes out into the world after spending 35 years in a nuclear fallout shelter.

My First Wedding (2006)

23 August 2017 - 09:29 AM

The synopsis of this movie alone qualifies.

From IMDB:
A young carpenter is mistaken for a Catholic priest and sustains the misunderstanding to seduce a girl.

Longer from Wikipedia:
When Vanessa (Rachael Leigh Cook), who is about to marry, starts fantasizing about every man she sees, she seeks refuge in the church confessional. After pouring out her soul to the priest (Kenny Doughty) inside, Vanessa asks him to remain by her side to help her remain faithful to her fiance until the big day. However, the man she believes to be a priest is actually a carpenter who was repairing the confessional, and he has fallen head over heels in love with the jittery bride.

Its so so so bad. I honestly don't know how it made it past the pitch phase.

Dick (1999)

14 November 2016 - 09:42 AM

Since we're all experiencing election fatigue....

High school students Betsy Jobs (Kirsten Dunst) and Arlene Lorenzo (Michelle Williams) wander off during a class trip to the White House and meet President Nixon (Dan Hedaya). They end up becoming the official walkers of his dog, Checkers, and the secret advisors to Tricky Dick during the Watergate scandals.

Honestly, I'm at a lost as to why this movie didn't have an 'alternate' title or even just more words in the title. And I look forward to hearing how many porn sites the HDTGM gang hit in search of this dumb dumb movie.

Two Weeks Notice (2002)

14 November 2016 - 06:31 AM

Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock are in this weird romantic comedy. A playboy real estate developer meets a activist lawyer and hi-jinks ensue. Hugh Grant's character has to hire a 'real' lawyer becuase he keeps hiring (and sleeping with) lawyers with terrible law degrees. Sandra Bullock is a hardcore activist lawyer who doesn't want him to tear down her favorite building, but she went to Harvard so...hired!

Its cute but has a lot of weird side tracks within it. Everyone in it is delightful - Hugh Grant is at his Hugh Grantiness and Sandra Bullock is going though that clumsy, neurotic character phase of her career.
