    Episode 130 - Teen Witch

Dang, this is gonna feel so off-topic (not to mention late to the party,) but I finally listened to the Teen Witch episode, and I remember now what bothered me about the flick when it first came out. Josh Miller! The sociopath kid brother from River's Edge! The soulless blood-sucking creature from Near Dark! Now, he was a fine actor in his time, but he established a persona for me early, and "wacky younger brother" it wasn't.

What film got you into the podcast?

For me, it was September 2013. I was driving back from a trip to the Sierra Nevada. Somewhere in western New Mexico, on a stretch of I-40, I scrolled through a list of movie podcasts on Stitcher and I thought I'd give it a try. My first episode was Crocodile Dundee 3. I thought it was ingenious: rag on the movie for a while, then talk to someone intimately involved with it. I was disappointed to learn that wasn't the format for all the episodes, but it didn't matter in the end. I love all of the episodes. Since then I've listened to every episode multiple times. There are a couple I haven't touched (Road House, Cool As Ice) because I want to review the movies first. I'm also an avid fan of the Empire Magazine Podcast--a smart, funny gang across the pond who geek out about movie news and reviews once a week. I think you have to log into iTunes UK to subscribe. What happened to the Green Lantern episode? Does anyone know?

    EPISODE 123 - Lifeforce

I actually saw Lifeforce in its original run. I've seen it once since (I did not watch it before listening to this episode) and for some reason, there are two elements that stand out for me: The nudity. Yeah, the first time I saw it, I was seventeen. I came out thinking that it was the most mature and sexually-aware nude space vampire flick I'd ever seen to date. The exploding windows. For some reason, this image sticks out for me. I just thought that was the coolest effect--the huge explosion of glass, caused by... what, sheer nudity? I love exploding glass in movies. There's not enough of that, I think. Also, I'm surprised the gang didn't make the connection: Jason mentioned Dan O'Bannon, who didn't have anything to do with the effects, but in fact wrote the screenplay. He also wrote Alien, which the gang did mention when comparing special effects. Connections everywhere. Finally, Lifeforce is okay. But the poster is simply gorgeous.

Guests I'd Love To Hear of HDTGM

Doug Stanhope? Of course, that's pie in the sky. The dude doesn't watch movies, and probably wouldn't play along. It would be a terrible episode. I love listening to that man speak, though. John Mulaney Hannibal Buress Chris Gethard And I support the Felicia Day idea, too!

    Mantzoukas Moments

Honestly for me, it's when someone says something (usually June) that's so outrageous he simply can't stop hold back the astonishment. Moments that come to mind: June's "What is a streetfigher?" question. In Monkey Shines when June (again!) assumes Allan is running to class with a backpack full of bricks. In Reindeer Games when Paul points out "Well, his name is Rudy." In Fast 6, expressing anguish that Giselle died, but "that dumptruck Mia" is still alive. and of course, Sleepaway Camp when everyone goes nuts trying to sort out the family tree. And yes, the "Where are the peas" rant is awesome.
