Just one time so far, but I love it yea. Reminds me of the "Things Have Changed" style of writing from him, which is my favorite. I think maybe a few songs drag a little for me, but for the most part, it's going to be fun to keep digging into it.Â

What I particularly loved was the thought that a badass, illegal immigrant biker would be just cruising around town in a tourist t-shirt from his home country.
I mean, he needs something to back-up his claim to be from New Zealand. It certainly wasn't his accent.

The final four!
6/25 It Happened One Night
7/1 Jaws
7/8 Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
7/15 CasablancaAfter that, we get Unspooled 2: Electric Boogaloo! Stay tuned to see what that means.
I think what we know so far: it isn't list-based, but there's a lot of movies to watch for it.

Yea I loved this movie so much. So much.
I love that all the bits are about food & shelter, it makes this more than just a comment on modernization. It's about the basics. Life! And love, too. Existence.Â
I have this top-7 and as I keep thinking about the list, as we get to the end here, it may go higher.

I think it should just morph into other biopics. Like Fanny falls in love with Chaplin or Raging Bull and that's the second half

That's about as bad a thing as one can say about a biographical film. I get the feeling it's not even particularly accurate to her personality (but that's pure speculation).
Yea, this. My big question is actually, she seems pretty mediocre, right? I didn't quite get how she succeeded. She had characters and stuff?Â

I thought Paul & Amy had a fascinating discussion about some of the complexities that are buried in Shane. But I also felt like, they were digging hard for them. Is this really truly a deconstruction of Western mythology and violence? I'm not so sure it gets there, to be honest. I have a hard time seeing it being that much of a statement. It's not far from it, though. Maybe with some more focus, better writing, better direction, it could have got there easily enough.
Like for example... with the wife. I didn't need some explicit romance/cuckolding, but they could've really tied the emotions up better to it give it more feeling (like maybe they kiss once or had a past or something). Instead it's just... bland.Â
It's interesting -- I never mention or really think about the technical side of these films, but I HAD to mention it here in my Letterboxd review. So I was amused when Paul & Amy made that hard pivot to break it down too. Some of it is glaringly amateur. And for me, that itself keeps it off this "top 100 movies ever" list. I mean, it's silly, but look again at that guy's hat flying off in the video I posted above. Why? Why be so silly? Why do it that way?Â
I guess, I really WANT this to be the film Paul & Amy discussed, but I'm not sure it is.Â

Not Meet The Fockers?
Haha but ya I'm mostly the same. I saw her A Star Is Born and I like her in it, but none of her other classics and I'm looking forward to that

ÂThat song (especially starting at the one minute mark)Â makes the scene so much more compelling to me.Â
This is perfection

that's a good question and could be opened wider:
what movies, whether on the list or not, define an entire genre?

9 minutes ago, Cameron H. said:It is, but still, “cop” anything is a pretty touchy subject right now. It’s got to be hard to be funny when you’re instinct is to be “fuck those guys” and somehow ignore what’s been going on this week. Honestly, they’d probably be better tabling this one for now and, if they want to release something, release one of the live eps they have backlogged.
But whatever they choose to do is fine by me. I can’t say I’ve been much in the mood lately.
Yea true. I need to talk about V8 though!

The movie read as fairly anti-cop to me. They all come off like inept dolts in it. They're no match for a ninja, even in helicopters and 3 feet away from him with machine guns.

1 hour ago, grudlian. said:I'm kind of with you on this. I think the story/characterization can be thin. Amy's complaint that I can't imagine them when the camera isn't on them is spot on.
Yea I'm with all of you. Amy's line there stuck out to me, that's exactly what I was trying to get at in my mind. I like experiential movies though (2001 is still my #1), and that does still elevate this a lot for me. I'm fine with it as a sci-fi rep, but I'd be happy with others over it (or, along with it). Alien is probably my choice. Even maybe Terminator. Brazil is a good call. I think I'm on the borderline right now for keeping this on the list, though I did vote yes right now.
I'm still thinking about the movie and exactly where I fall with it. I'm not quite sure. Like imagine if you did connect with it deeply AND it had that visual experience. That's what should be on this list. And I feel this could have been that, but for whatever reason, it isn't quite.
It Happened One Night

I'm probably going to be one of the few No votes, so I'll offer my thought on it.
Basically, I keep thinking about something Amy brought up earlier in the Unspooled series, about being blinded by the firsts. This is an early rom-com, early Capra, early screwball comedy. But I think there are better rom-coms, and better Capras, and better screwball comedies. This movie is textbook influential, for sure, but I'm not sold on it being textbook 'great'.
