The other reason for picking this movie is 2020 had a lot of nice, family-friendly movies (lipstick nipples aside). I wanted to put 2020 in the rearview mirror.

If you like Dr. Demento's theme song, Pico and Sepulveda, it's included in the movie as a set-up to showing where the dad works.

Here is a color trailer.

The movie was originally in black-and-white when released but has since been colorized. I highly recommend the color version. It's easier on the eyes and to distinguish various details. If anyone wants to see the black-and-white version I plan to Kast it on Thursday night at 9 p.m. Eastern and Friday night at 7. The colorized version will be Kasted on Friday at 9 p.m. Eastern.
It's available for free at TubiTV, and for rent on other services. It's also available if you have subscriptions to various services, Fandor being one of them. I own it on Prime so I will probably show that service's copy on Friday. It's not much different from the Blu-Ray.
Here's the Justwatch page.
EDIT: It's only 70-some minutes long so you won't have too much of your time to ask to get back.

So, before there was the band Oingo Boingo, led by Danny Elfman, there was a performance troupe called The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, led by Danny's brother Richard. Danny was in the group as well as Richard's now-ex wife Marie-Pascale. Richard wanted to capture the spirit of the performance troupe as well as the energy and created this movie. It is decidedly NOT family-friendly nor good taste-friendly.
Starring Herve Villechaize and the bartender from Rockula, I give you

I just think it's weird that every few years, there's a story about "here's the song you didn't see!" when it was very available on multiple formats.
That is an excellent point and I admit I was taken in by it. I didn't research that when I posted my comment, although I did see that it had been available on VHS and such. On reflection it is weird that there were multiple videos on YouTube for a supposedly "missing" song. So much for my critical thinking skills.

Personally, I don't like it since it doesn't fit the feel of the rest of the movie.
It's not curently in the Disney+ version but it will eventually be. They're restoring it for the 4k Blu-Ray. Here's a decent-quality version in the meantime.

2 hours ago, AlmostAGhost said:I watched 5 of them on the 24th and 25th this year. This is certainly the best, because of course The Muppets are fun and they fill out the cloying drama so the story isn't quite so preachy.
Caine is easily the best Scrooge. Other Scrooges sort of get one side of him right, either are super hard evil boss or sort of light-hearted and are not a good enough balance.
I do highly recommend the musical Scrooge from the '70s, though maybe we should save it for next December. I thought the songs were also terrific and the whole thing is super creative.
I watched Scrooge yesterday for the first time (because several had noted it on Letterboxd) and enjoyed it very much. I would second that as a selection but we don't have to wait until next December if Christmas is every day.

OK, which one of you writes for The Guardian? This article came out last week.
The film reminds me so potently of being a child that this time I welled up during One More Sleep ‘Til Christmas. My brother lives in a care home now, and I haven’t seen him all year. His carers have told him that it will be “lots of sleeps” until he sees me. It’s been a horrendous year for everybody, and I think that’s why we all need to watch this film. It allows us, for a tight one hour and 29 minutes, to become children again. And to remember that most important of life lessons: never eat singing food.

I like these posters. Let's throw Scrooge to the back or do without him completely, because, he's not central to the story or anything!

My room is open for tonight's viewing. I'll do one tomorrow night as well so people don't have to subscribe to Disney+ if they don't want to.

This is awesome. The original version of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds will be on YouTube from tomorrow afternoon (12/25 @ 2 p.m. Eastern) until January 5th. I've listened to the Next Generation version and prefer the original. This will have more cast members, including some of the original singers (like Justin Heyward from The Moody Blues).

I don't expect anyone to join but I plan on Kasting The Muppet Christmas Carol tonight at 9 and tomorrow night at 9. I thought we covered this one before but nope, just Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas (for Muppet Christmas movies). I've seen MCC before but not in years. Looking forward to revisiting it. Gonzo defines the phrase "you little dickens, you".

He seemed the most dismissive of it after the fact, but I also get the feeling he would have been happy to have kept going indefinitely with his one or two songs per album. Like, I don’t think he liked the crazy attention surrounding the Beatles, but, ironically, it was easier to hide in the background as Beatle George than be center of attention as Frontman George. I think that’s why he enjoyed being a part of the Wilbury’s too. He was playing with friends for fun, but he was just a part of the group and not the main person.
I have nothing to back this up. Just the vibe I’ve gotten.
Is this what While My Guitar Gently Weeps refers to (the breakup) or is it something else?

Makes perfect sense. Not everyone is cut out to be the frontman. I know I'm not. I'm happiest in the background or behind the scenes.

Drat! I thought we were doing Lady Gaga & the Muppets' Holiday Spectacular!
