Dirty Harry (a pro-fascist movie if there ever was one) is pretty Canon-worthy

Rumble in the Bronx would be my pick. Maybe Rush Hour?

I think Producers v. Young Frankenstein would be more difficult, at least for me. Much as I like Blazing Saddles, Cleavon Little is basically the only reason that the movie works -- there's pretty much no structure.

Agree - having just watched the original again I think this would be remarkably close. Matt Damon is clearly the better LeBeef but I think the level of acting across both movies is superb. Also I think both endings are earned and sentimental despite being very different on the surface. We need more westerns AND more Coens in the canon - lets do this!

We need more Westerns in the Canon! Right now we only have The Searchers, The Wild Bunch, and Brokeback Mountain. Shane happens to be my favorite but some other possibilities could be: Johnny Guitar Red River Cat Ballou High Noon Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid Buck and the Preacher I personally prefer 1950s Westerns (and their descendants) to spaghetti Westerns although I would also have no problem with a Morricone or Corbucci movie in the Canon.

Maybe my favorite all-time movie. An incredibly beautiful portrait of New York that arguably created the modern conception of independent film. I also think that its portrayal of the confused, earnest way that children deal with death -- a concept that the adult world is loathe to explain -- has resonance for both understanding Baby Boomers, and children of all generations.

I want to second Astronaut Down's omission: Renoly Santiago was not only the most exciting part of this movie but epitomized all of its amazing fashion choices. My favorite scene is when he tells off Jesse Bradford for wearing a plaid shirt -- he is in a leopard print shirt and differently styled leopard print pants.
