  1. Two things that reminded me of other things. Ed Earl: "I can tell when somebody's peeing on my boots and telling me it's a rainstorm." The football players song: "We're gonna whomp and stomp, and a-whoop it up tonight"
  2. I took the moment they had outside the diner as their goodbyes. They both probably knew they were not right for each other. It made me sad that a little kid was involved though. No, according to wiki it wasn't in the Broadway show. Music and lyrics for the stage show were written by Carol Hall. MIND = BLOWN
  3. Oh, I will. SUBSCRIBE TO DOLLY PARTON FACTS
  4. Here in the Northeast, I grew up listening to Whitney and wasn't exposed to artists like Dolly Parton very much. I blame the evil liberal media, of course. Seriously, I thought Jolene was a White Stripes song! At least this movie has inspired me to look into Dolly Parton's discography.
  5. Chicken farmer? I can think of one person who would love a Christmas with soft candies (like licorice allsorts).
  6. You convinced me I need to watch 9 to 5. And I had no idea there was a musical version of it. Re: "I Will Always Love You," I had no idea it was a song in TBLWHIT and when she started singing it in the movie, it was really cool. But today, I kept humming Whitney's version. Dolly's version was so sweet and intimate, but I prefer Whitney's powerful r&b version, especially the part where there's a 4 count (?) silence with a single bass drum kick at the end and then she belts out "And I......"
  7. Also, just wanted to let everyone know they're getting "Wishing you a soft candy Christmas" cards from me.
  8. I never took you for a candy elitist. So what's the opposite, a soft candy Christmas? That doesn't sound good either.
  9. Is it, really? Thank you for posting that definition of hard candy Christmas, Kate. I was confused that the song was referring to hard times while referring to hard candies, which include candy canes that are everywhere during Christmas. Yeah, it's not chocolate, but it's still candy.
  10. Agreed. People are quick to vilify sex workers, but the sex trade exists because there's a demand for it. It was nice to see that the movie didn't slut-shame the girls. Btw, what exactly is a hard candy Christmas? I keep singing "Texas has a whorehouse in it." My favorite song is probably A Little Bitty Pissant Country Place and my favorite dance number was the locker room dancing. What is that type of dancing called? I was afraid the mens' kneecaps would fall off from rotating so much like friggin' knee windmills. I can't imagine anyone else in those teeny tiny snap-away Japanese slingshots. Did anyone else wonder if they were thongs? Just me then?
  11. Is it a hot take though? I also agree with the above. Some go as far to say that brothels provide a safer environment for voluntary sex workers, as they don't have to resort to solicitation on the streets or have to rely on pimps. I was a bit nervous about this movie pick at first. I didn't know much about it going in (except for the Simpsons reference) and I was afraid it might be sexist or mean. But I liked it more than I expected to, mostly due to Dolly Parton. She was so charming even when she was just standing around or writing checks with her pink feather pen. I couldn't take my eyes off her whenever she was on screen. And God bless for HD, for without it I wouldn't have been able to make out the glitter on Dolly's cleavage.
  12. @Cams, have fun going down the Wiki black hole for the Chicken Ranch. So much of the story is true. I read that there was a tradition of A&M freshmen visiting the Chicken Ranch as an "initiation," so the whole football team story isn't so farfetched.
  13. I agree that it would have been more satisfying to see Thorpe get his comeuppance, but maybe the filmmakers decided to stay closer to what happened to the real tv reporter, Marvin Zindler, who helped close down the real Chicken Ranch? From Wikipedia:
  14. No shade. Her wigs are beautiful and full of magic.
  15. Oh honey chile, that's a wig, bless your heart.
  16. Not a bad Connery Bond film, but oh lord, this scene. The Russian agent: Thank you, but I think my mouth is too big. Bond: No, it's the right size....FOR ME, THAT IS. Me: Barf.

So does Mr Children get a pass one day of the year in a leap year?
  18. Oh, it wasn't a complaint.

If I was marrying the same person? The Jackson 5's I Want You Back. A couple of years ago on a car trip, this song would come on first whenever I hooked up my iphone to the car. There must have been something wrong with the iTunes shuffle algorithm or something? At first it was amusing, but then it got so annoying that even before first piano fill was finished we would fast forward to the next song. But it kept happening and we learned to love the song again out of necessity, lol. The song is a reminder of the great trip we had. Plus, I want my dance to be something upbeat/fun. If I was marrying a different person? The Beach Boys' God Only Knows. I'm gonna keep using that for all my marriages.

Aw, that sucks because Lockjaw is awesome in Ms. Marvel. That is sad, because Footloose has a kickass soundtrack.
  24. I forgot about that! This reminds me to post my favorite review from Amazon. I know it's too soon to discuss, but this can't wait.

    Episode 170 - Bratz

I have not watched. The nicest thing I read about it was that Medusa's hair didn't suck too much.
