Episode 196 - The Meg: LIVE!

Apparently they also use dead fish like fleshlights to jack off with? There's video of it in one of the articles on shitty dolphin behavior I found but I was too afraid to watch it. Similar to Meatloaf I will do lots of things in the name of scientific research but watching dolphin porn ... I just won't do that. I will however watch a dolphin chew a puffer fish and pass it around like a fishy bong so they can get a high.
  2. I've never seen The Smurfs movie mainly because I'm still traumatized from the Alvin and the Chipmunk movie that came out around the same time. I assume it's going to be similarly upsetting from the trailers. Like June that film made me feel ill. Sidenote: my mom dressed me up as a Smurf for my first Halloween.

This is what I'm saying! Also to tie this back to another HDTGM alumna Demi Moore was assaulted by a douche nozzle dolphin when she was visiting Siegried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat. So... probably exactly like Harvey Weinstein. (Is she one of his victims? I have genuinely lost count). Douglas Adams lied to us people!

Episode 196 - The Meg: LIVE!

I just want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the true monstrosity of the seas are dolphins not sharks. Sharks are relatively harmless. According to PBS Nova of there are nearly 500 kinds of shark but only a dozen are dangerous to humans. You're more likely to be hit by lightning than attacked by a shark. I'm sure the chance of dolphin rape and /or attack is equally low but sharks don't go around playing with the corpses of the dead infants they've killed so I like them slightly more. I've ranted about dolphins before so here's an old article from Slate: http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2009/05/13/dolphins_are_violent_predators_that_kill_their_own_babies.html

And yet we (and by we I mean mostly Nicole Byer) were denied those oh so important sex scenes in this movie! Warner Bros How dare you deny us!

I haven't seen this movie in YEARS ! I had the vhs and was OBSESSED. I was a cat lady even as a wee lass. I haven't watched the movie for this week yet but I do remember loving Perfect Isn't Easy because I was also a dramatic bitch as a child. I still think it's one of the best underrated songs of Disney. I would post photos of my two kitty cats Godric and his son Albus but Earwolf sucks and won't let me. Every picture I have is too big apparently.Have a link to my cloud instead: https://www.amazon.com/photos/share/Tf28u1Tzc8CydjfNk1a8JMmSFcqBhAvGUV88uaimtgU Godric is the black and white and Albus is orange and white. They are purebred Turkish Vans and I got them nearly a year and a half ago because (I'm not making this up) Godric was getting beat up by the other cats at the cattery, mostly by his brother Ron Weasely.

Like June I like a "Bigger Boy/Girl" but I prefer mine come in a feline shape. Both my current cats refuse to get fat and are just really fluffy unlike their predecessor who had the noble distinction of having the epitaph of Her Royal Rotundness . Please enjoy a photo of HRR Gracie in all her glory

Episode 194 - Yes, Giorgio: LIVE!

Rigoletto is the only opera I have ever seen "live" (I went with my grandma and a friend of the family to see it at the movie theater because the Met broadcasts to movie theaters around the country now.) The version I saw took place in 60's Vegas with the Duke owning his own Casino and Rigoetto being his comic (i think?) instead of his fool. It was a wonderful production and if you can find that version online I strongly recommend it. You are right though it does have a very Shakespearean sort of story to it . This is the most famous song from the opera. Because I'm stupid and know nothing about opera I always thought it was a love song when I heard it but it's actually a song about how women are fickle lairs who can't be trusted . here are the English lyrics because I'm a fucking nerd who likes to share my knowledge : Woman is fickle Like a feather in the wind, She changes her voice β€” and her mind. Always sweet, Pretty face, In tears or in laughter, β€” she is always lying. Always miserable Is he who trusts her, He who confides in her β€” his unwary heart! Yet one never feels Fully happy Who on that bosom β€” does not drink love! Woman is fickle Like a feather in the wind, She changes her voice β€” and her mind, And her mind, And her mind! This is sung by a cheating bastard the Duke (played by June's favorite Bigger Boy Pavarotti ) While he's trying to seduce the sister of the man Rigoletto plans to hire to kill said Duke for being such a womanizer. Mainly to stop him from fucking around with his daughter any longer. I can't remember if he raped her or they had a willing affair in the opera I saw. Honestly Giorgio was made to play the Duke .

This reminds me of an article I read ages ago in the Washington Post about something called the Padme Theory which basically boils down to the idea that Padme knows Anakin Skywalker is a creepy sociopath and that for The Good of The Galaxy she must fake love and affection for him because it's the only way to reign him in and he has a weird fixation on her so she's gotta bite the bullet. (It's mostly about how horrible the prequels are and how their love story and interactions with one another was clearly written by someone who has never interacted with another human being and thus this is a way to make sense of it all) I fully support your theory.

I couldn't bring myself to watch all the movie but i thought they were doing The Mikado or Madame Butterfly for some reason. Both have had people in yellow face unfortunately. The Mikado is especially well known for it because it's not even about a factual version of Japan and i guess several characters names are super demeaning and racist. in 2015 the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players were going to put it on and it was a BIG thing. (rightfully so IMO). Here's a really good article on how to make the Mikado relevant in our modern world if anyone cares to read it: https://www.americantheatre.org/2016/04/20/building-a-better-mikado-minus-the-yellowface/

I would have to agree with you. I don't know much about opera but I do know having seen La Boheme on PBS that Pavarotti's voice is wonderful and is really the whole draw for this film. You aren't coming to see this movie for the acting you go for Pavarotti's voice. Really outside of his singing I don't know why anyone WOULD want to see this movie outside of for a podcast like this, or because like June they too like a bigger boy.

    Episode 193 - Blues Brothers 2000: LIVE!

I already put this on the How Did This Get Made facebook group but i was a a meet for a Library committee. We're gearing up for my county to vote on a millage for a new library and we're trying to get out the vote and deal with assholes who don't want it . Anyway the meeting was at a sports bar attached to the local ice rink because they have a meeting room for rent. in the vestibule of the restaurant (even though its a sports bar and this is the only move/ tv/ music item) is TERRIFYING John Belushi as Jake Blues statue . I figured i might as well share the horrors: He might be on a mission but I doubt it's from God.

To be honest I only watch the movie if it looks interesting, it's free on a streaming thing I own, I've seen it before and kind of enjoyed it (I think I did that with Super Mario Bro's as a kid), or (like The Hurricane Heist which I would never have watched otherwise) I'm going to the show.

    Episode 193 - Blues Brothers 2000: LIVE!

If you like Drag Race I've found a podcast called Squirrel Friend's Cocktail Hour. It's hosted by two friend's Nick and Amanda and they get drunk and talk about new and old seasons of Drag Race what they are watching/ listening too and stuff in their lives. I love it. The each have side projects as well. Amanda has Amanda Loves to Hate Teen Mom where she does HILARIOUS impressions. Her best is her Barb impression which is Jenelle Even's mom. She has this amazing Bostony accent. I had never seen an episode of the show until I started listening (I started because I was also have really bad depression and panic attacks and needed something to help me sleep. This did not do that but only because I was laughing too hard. The cats were NOT pleased). I finished Teen Mom 2 in like a month. If you ever want to feel good about your life choices any version of Teen Mom is your go to. But you do n't have to watch the show to enjoy her talking about it. (If you do like the show and want to hear more funy women talk about it Teen Mom Trash Talk is another great podcast that's hilarious .) Nick does The No Good Very Bad Gay Podcast where he watches movies that are cult classics he's never seen before with someone who loves them and they talk about the film. I love a lot of campy cult classic films and love Nick's voice/ Nick so I enjoy it. Several of them are old Hollywood films like A Star Is Born and they talk about some Hollywood history so that's fun to me. So far I have seen all the films except Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf and they did Bette Middler's tv movie version of Gypsy (which was Amanda's guest episode)

Ok so this might just be me putting too much thought into the movie but because of the start of the film did anyone else think that Scribbles was going to be revealed to be Jake's son and THAT'S why he was in the movie? I thought for sure after they did the bits to show how alike the two were it was going to be reveled that after Jake got out he had a kid and that kid was Scribbles. They never mention WHEN Jake got out so I thought maybe he got some lady knocked up after a wild night celebrating being free from prison. They part he goes on his way never to se her again then eventually dies. He might have never known and maybe told this lady the amazing story of why he was in jail because of his Mission From God to save the orphanage. So when she finds herself preggo she decides to give the baby to the orphanage to raise. Maybe in the hope that they can get him to his father. Anyway that would have made it SO much more satisfying and would have sort of justified Scribbles to the audience. i couldn't finish the movie but I'm pretty sure he's not Blues Brother Spawn right? Regardless of his paternity #SaveScribbles
