  1. So if there's ever an episode to vote something OUT of the Canon this seems like it'll be back in the running AGAIN. Every podcast episode is just going to be voting in and kicking out RE-ANIMATOR.

Agree, this feels like some 4Chan shit where they decide to all write in Hitler. It feels cheap. And worse because it makes a good film the bad guy. I also hate the argument that a Canon that includes films like Rocky Horror, Evil Dead 2, Battle Royale, The Thing, Cannibal Holocaust, Oldboy, and They Live is somehow biased against genre pictures.

  2. This was actually easy for me. I love Boogie Nights. I think it is a great film and absolutely deserving of being in The Canon. It is more watchable and digestible than There Will Be Blood. The cast is incredible. There is really nothing bad to say about the film.

...that said, There Will Be Blood is to me one of the greatest cinematic achievements in film history. It is not only a great movie but one of the greatest movies ever made in my opinion. I think this episode is a testament to the greatness of Paul Thomas Anderson. The difference to me is that Boogie Nights is a great movie, There Will Be Blood is a masterpiece and is the type of movie The Canon was made for (even though the bar has been set to just good movies since last week).

  3. Going no.

Really good and fun movie but a lot of really good fun movies will not go into The Canon. That doesn't make them bad, they just aren't that upper echelon of films that deserve canonization. I agree with Amy, there is a line and this movie doesn't reach it. Not a knock.

This is a beloved film but Shawshank, Gump, and Goonies are all beloved and they aren't in The Canon.

Scott Pilgrim, John Wick, Attack The Block, even The Force Awakens are all good fun that will never make The Canon.

The Thing, Cannibal Holocaust, They Live, Rocky Horror, Evil Dead 2, Battle Royale, plenty of genre movies that have gotten in.

I frankly do no see anything that makes Re-Animator stand out from the pack to say it belongs in The Canon.

  4. Oh cool, another week where one of the hosts refuses to engage with the movie.

Devin and Amy should just take turns talking to a wall and recording it.

Agree. I love the show but the last two weeks have been brutal.

As for the movie it is a definite yes for me. I know it isn't perfect and it has an amateurish feel but it was made by kids. Even though it was financed by Universal, everyone behind it were completely outside the system and its importance can not be overstated. Not only did it spark a national conversation but it made it possible for films like Menace II Society, Friday, and even Straight Outta Compton to be made. It gave us Laurence Fishburne and Ice Cube as a movie star. Its "melodrama" also works. Devin admitted to crying when Ricky died. It is far from a perfect movie but 25 years later we are still talking about it. Its cultural impact is tremendous. And it is a must see in many circles, especially in the inner city.

As for Eazy E talking shit, he was beefing with Ice Cube at the time so he was hardly unbiased. Boyz N The Hood belongs in the canon

  5. Not only is it an incredibly influential movie but arguably Fincher's best. I do agree he can be hit or miss, but I don't agree with Amy who basically described him as a more competent Zack Snyder.
