    Suggestion for 100th Episode Format

I would be really disappointed to see Chi-Raq go I'm curious about the argument for why it's not canon.

    Suggestion for 100th Episode Format

Based on the list of people's least favorite films in the canon I feel like this episode could put Chi-Raq in jeopardy, personally I'd like to see blade runner eliminated.

I'm not saying this to be a dick but, can you explain dirty dancing to me because everyone of my friends loves it and I have never been able to understand.

    Horror then and now

I'm really glad some one mentioned The Loved Ones because I love that movie and I'm also happy to see other people like May. Its so easy to dismiss what's happening in the present while holding reverence for the past and I think the films mentioned here prove good things are still happening even if they are smaller and harder to find.

    Episode 82: THEY LIVE

Newlin, I don't think they live is the best example of Carpenter but I think it's unfair to label him as a director who is incapable of nuance or subtlety.

But did you know that he happened to be all out of bubblegum?

    Horror then and now

The early 2000s are hard for me to pin down. I feel like a lot of decades can be summed up but the aughts never really produced a cohesive theme. There are things I like, like May and The Mist but I see a fracture into many different sub-genres rather than a connective tissue. Llewllyn is right about Scream if that's what you're referring to I just think I would put up Nightmare or Last House but I support a big canon so there is room for all (shout out to Red Eye a pretty enjoyable movie from early 2000s)

    Horror then and now

Scream would definitely be interesting it wouldn't be the first Wes Craven I would nominate but it would definitely be topical.

    Horror then and now

The aughts are really hit and miss for me I tend to like the lesser appreciated imports like Dumplings or Re-cycle, Thirst... There feels like there has been a renaissance especially in the last couple of years with movies like The Witch and Martyrs but with the exception of Cabin in The Woods and The Conjuring the studios haven't been producing much worth interest. I agree with you that a lot of interesting stuff has been sort of fringe indie. I wonder why there seems to be a drought of R rated blockbuster horror.

    Being There

I should probably revisit this one, I haven't seen it in a couple of years but I remember enjoying it.

    Suggestion: Lucio Fulci's The Beyond

I love The Beyond my local theater just screened it on 35mm and it looked amazing. I'm all for more Italian horror in the canon.

Eaten Alive or Phantom of The Paradise a canon that doesn't include William Finley is not a world I want to live in.
  14. I think the fun of the vs episodes is that two movies enter one movie lives. It becomes a debate of strategy that is occasionally hinged upon making a devils argument for a movie you might not like just to position a worse movie out of the running.

Favorite and least favorite movies in The Canon

I'm really surprised that so many people dislike Chi-Raq I thought it was really special but Tangerine is kind of next level in my opinion.

    Episode 82: THEY LIVE

I'm a very soft yes and I think if I wasn't as emotionally attached to this film I might be a no. I can see Amy's points but I was raised on John Carpenter and I can't deny him another opportunity for the canon. I do think its ironic that the influence that this movie has in the mainstream is a vehicle to sell OBEY merchandise. I kind of wished the episode had played as a vs with The Stuff (1985) since the two hit on similar themes and are using similar vehicles to relay their message.

Favorite and least favorite movies in The Canon

Favorite: The Thing (Even though my heart still aches for The Fly) Least favorite: Blade Runner (this movie is a chore to get through) Bummed at the exclusion of: Jerry Maguire (I feel like every Tom Cruise movie has the potential to end like the beginning of The Stepfather and that makes Jerry Maguire interesting to me) Side note: the episode about Goodfellas made me realize the dvd I own has a scratch and skips an entire section of the movie (I'd always just assumed it was a crazy bit of editing)

Rosemary's Baby vs Repulsion (or the Tennant)

I would be happy to see any of those movies inducted also Fearless Vampire Killers for my personal canon.

    Jennifer's body

I friggin' love Rosemary's Baby. I showed the final scene of this movie for a presentation and was really surprised by the number of people who hadn't seen it.

    Jennifer's body

I know that's kind of crazy but, I like Jennifer's Body and I love listening to people discuss this movie. I think Karyn Kusama is a really solid director who can accomplish an amazing amount of work on a low budget and I think this is the only time Megan Fox has ever been used correctly in a movie. This movie got lambasted for being exploitative but I refuse to believe the exploitation is accidental and would argue that it is kind of the point of the movie. Jennifer's Body represents two girls who once had a lot in common growing up in similar homes who were pushed into radically different identities because one grew up to be considered hot. I'm incredibly fascinated by the idea of internalizing the identity that is projected onto you and to me that idea is perfectly realized in the character of Jennifer. I'm not declaring the movie is canon-worthy but I think it's a movie that merits our discussion especially since it was dismissed so out of hand at the time.

    Jennifer's body

Also all of those movies are directed by men which doesn't devalue them but, I feel like there is a tendency to praise feminist male productions while movies about women made by women get overlooked.

    Jennifer's body

I agree that those films are great but I think Jennifer's Body is way better than people give it credit for. I like thinking about why people hate this particular movie so much.
