Episode 160 - The Lake House: LIVE!

I haven't watched this movie, but I just listened to the episode last night and wow, what even is this? I'm glad someone else brought up the movie Frequency, because while it's not amazing, it does a much better job playing with the concept of time traveling conversations and using those to the advantage of changing time. Also, thank you Fister, for bringing up the issue of time loops, as that just is aaaalways a problem in time-altering stories. You change the future for a reason, then there's no reason to change it; back to square one lol. Anyway, this ep was very enjoyable, and I loved reading through this thread! I hope Cam Bert still has more to say! I'm really looking forward to the minisode for this,
  2. I was in visual arts in high school, but I was in "Super Choir" in elementary school, which I really enjoyed. I probably would've kept with choir except I didn't like the choir teacher for middle/high school.
  3. Just trying to stick to the status quo!
  4. I was just thinking this is actually some pretty good timing, because my birthday is on Friday, so this is like a special treat. What better way to celebrate than by watching a silly movie?
  5. Thank you, I think I'm feeling better now. I probably just overdid it with Easter snacks yesterday. I'm glad people are okay with this pick! Now I can tell my anxiety to GTFO.
  6. Whoa sorry, I slept in for a while because I wasn't feeling well. I know originally I promised regret with my joining in on this activity, but see, I was originally thinking about The Monkees movie Head, however, the music in it is more done in a music video type way and the songs are rather spaced out, so it wouldn't have been a good pic. It is definitely an awful movie though, if you're looking for that sort of torture. It's basically a bizarre protest to their manufactured image. BUT ANYWAY To be quite honest, I do get anxiety about choosing movies (my roommate knows this well), which is part of why I was reluctant to join in. I have no confidence in my own choices, so it was really hard for me to settle on a movie and I still have my doubts. However, I'm hoping this one provides some amusement (and perhaps a bit of regret), because my choice is

I never microwaved them. When my great aunt was alive, she would open a peeps package and let it sit so they could get a little stale before eating them. I never understood that lol

    Musical Mondays Week 9 Pete's Dragon (1977)

I'm not really sure, so I'm trying to think which one may bring up better discussions. It's HARD I just ate four of them. I am trash.

I could eat four peeps at least! Happy Easter!! Guys, I'm torn between choosing a dumb musical I know well, or a classic musical I don't remember well! Help!

    Musical Mondays Week 9 Pete's Dragon (1977)

By the way I absolutely loved Helen Reddy in this. I think it would've been better if she didn't have a love interest, but Nora was pretty cool. Probably should be more worried about her dad being drunk constantly though. TBH the whole town should be more concerned. I mean, Pete goes by the tavern while the kids are still in school, so it's probably not even or just barely afternoon and that building is absolutely FULL of people just pouring beer down their throats. Do any of them have jobs?? It wouldn't seem like a little port city like that could afford to have that many drunkards wasting the whole day away. Back to Helen Reddy though, this was my introduction to her https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPkm4O6g1rw I love her voice

    Musical Mondays Week 9 Pete's Dragon (1977)

I agree with a lot of the comments here! The movie was much longer than I remembered or expected it to be. It really did have a lot going on for something that is supposed to entertain kids. I think I enjoyed the more exaggerated characters like Dr. Terminus. Tbh I loved his outfit?? But yeah, the songs, while catchy, were drawn out a bit too long (were the dance numbers that necessary?), so I was ready to forget them once they were over. I do still hear "Every Little Piece" in my head lol The opening song though... I had trouble figuring out what the goal of the Gogans were in having Pete. Like... did they just want slave labor? Or to kill him? Or to eat him? Maybe it's all three. You'd think if they put their life savings into purchasing one lone child to work the farm, that maybe they'd consider taking a little bit better care of him. (I was also amused how they weren't just dirty, but so dirty literal dust was flying off of them.)

My roommate just made me play that video three times in a row we're dying omg
  16. Man, got about halfway through Pete's Dragon and my roommate needed a break lol. I like it though. Hopefully I can finish it tomorrow evening. And hooray for more people joining!!
  17. I'm bummed too! ˚‧º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )‧º·˚ You should be flown in as a special guest!
  18. Hoping to watch Pete's Dragon this weekend. I'm always slow pfff Also late commenting, but it's super cool that Cakebug and Cameron got to meet up! Sounds like fun!! I'm getting more excited for May... Btw this is me
  19. Pretty sure I mentioned before that my first favorite show was The Muppets. There's just something I really like about tangible creatures and practical effects. Even if they're kinda goofy. I love puppet Yoda way more than CGI Yoda. And it's not like technology for them hasn't advanced. There are some very expressive puppets out there. I wonder if they see CGI as more cost effective? I'm not sure how the financial side compares, I just know what I like better lol
  20. Don't even bring Falcor into this!! It's not the concept OF a furry dragon it's just... I always pictured 1977 Elliot to be a doofy scaley dragon, not... whatever the hell they did. I enjoy Disney animations BECAUSE they're cartoons! They can push and pull the characters to make them super expressive. But when they do this realistic CG stuff the characters are in a way so much flatter to me. The Never Ending Story is fine, because that's how they set up that world from the beginning and there's something endearing about practical effects, but realistic CG still looks off a lot of the time, especially when you're mashing it up with live action and have to stare at it for a long time. I just alsjkdflajlj Sorry, I'll stop here. This is just my personal opinion, and I'm not saying the movies are bad, just... they aren't aesthetically pleasing to me. /flees
  21. Holy shit I almost forgot to stop in today! Ahh, I'd love to revisit Pete's Dragon! I haven't seen it since I was a kid and I've kinda been wanting to see it again. I couldn't make myself watch the remake. Idk I hate how he's furry, like wtf. I just cannot move past that. I keep looking away in disgust whenever I see the DVD in stores. I'm awful lol #notmyaesthetic

I don't drink ginger ale often, but I'm glad that the HEB near me carries Vernor's in case I ever want any. Now my favorite Faygo flavor Rock & Rye... well, tbh Big Red to me tastes like a non-cream version of it, so I guess I'm okay lol When I was back in Michigan I used to have a friend who grew up in Georgia and she would call all soft drinks "coke". Her favorite was Dr. Pepper.

Unsweet ice tea. Growing up in Michigan I always called it "pop", but since moving to Texas I have programmed myself to say "soda". I did, however, let the word "pop" slip this past week, which just made everyone laugh.
