I feel like I'm replying late, but
Â
Mass Effect?
Â
Nah, the ancient mmorpg of Ragnarok Online. It's pretty relaxing.
Â
Â
Cameron, to add to your point, this happens in comedy ALL THE TIME! I keep hearing comedians talk about premises they came up with and then the next month they have to scrap them because they saw someone do the same premise on Conan. When something happens now that provides a good joke you'll see comedians flock to twitter to get it in first so they can be the one to use it later, cause they all know they're thinking the same thing. It seems like when you have an artistic mind (or a comedic mind - which I guess is artistic too nevermind lol) your going to follow a lot of the same paths as other artists.
Â
This reminds me so much of when I wanted to do a print for a new anime series and BOTH ideas I had for it, I ended up finding that other artists had already done, so I gave up on that one. It was fine, because the other artists did really nice work (and the market was kind of oversaturated anyway lol). It just happens, especially when there's like-minded people around.

Etymology lesson time:
Â
I'm sure this is just my problem, but being a little sleepy and because you're CakeBug, I first read "Etymology" as "Entomology".
Â
Â
And the scene where Mark quits his Buzzline job by sing-screaming his resignation into the air. I lol'ed so hard. ITSV he resigns over the phone, like a normal human being.
Â
When he did that I was mostly focused on my puzzle and glanced up at the TV like "who is he singing to? is his crew there? why is Roger there?" I'm still confused.

I was playing a video game, but I will mention I've never tried Indian food. I am a wimp when it comes to spices.
Â
On the food topic, the guy running the restaurant was a total wimp for someone not wanting them in his establishment lol

THE BEST costuming, though? That goes to Angel's "Pussy Galore" jacket:
Â
She's straight up got shower rings on that bitch.
Ohhh that is awesome!!
Â
And yeah, I think the costuming didn't work well in the movie, especially with the line during Angel's funeral "you'd find an old table cloth on the street and make a dress..." but all of her outfits looked store bought, not homemade, so I was confused. I kept wondering how much money she made by killing that dog lol

I didn't take any issue with Mimi. I more took issue with Roger jumping all over the place. Being all like: I'll light your candle. Get out of my house! I'm sorry let's go out. (Doesn't speak to Mimi during the party.) Oh I have baggage but I love you. How dare you date Benny before you even met me!
Â
Like do you like her not?? You're being kind of a major dick.
Â
I hope he's not quite this obnoxious in the stage version.

Jam, I love your signature
Thanks. I kept laughing and quoting it for a while after the movie.

You wouldn't be saying that if they kept sitting their homeless asses on your Range Rover.
Well, I mean, you kick them out of their tent city and they got no where else to go, they'll definitely be sitting their asses on your Range Rover.

Yes! All of this!
Â
There's this photo studio space called "Weld" here in Dallas (they just opened up a new space in Nashville) that I would looooove to join! The space is gorgeous and the amount of connections that are made through the people is absolutely priceless! Except they do put a price on it... $400 a month... And the wait list is miles long so even if you did have that kind of monthly money to drop you would have to wait at least a year to even get in. My school loans & rent take so much out that there's no way I could ever participate and it makes me so sad. Then I see as all these fuckers who grew up with money and don't have to worry about silly things like bills get ahead of me in the field because they have the space to work and the connections to get jobs
Â
/end photo industry rant
Â
Nah I hear you. I knew an artist who had studio space at that old factory and she let me use it during off hours to work on paintings when I was in art school and it was soooooooo fucking nice. But I can't even dream of affording something like that. It's not faaaaair

If it helps you feel better, just think back on how Mark was the 7th wheel during the La Vie Boheme sequence.
Â
Â
I think I side more with Taylor Anne... even if he was presented as being younger, his parents don't come across as that overbearing. But I guess some kids are like that? Idk I always had a pretty good relationship with mine, so I probably just don't relate.

I'm feeling a little torn on the whole Cyber Studio now. As a kid I got to be present for a couple meetings this art guild had when they purchased an old abandoned factory, which has since been remodeled into studio, gallery, and class/presentation space. And I think that's pretty damn cool so why would an artist not want it??? But the studios also aren't cheap and there's a waitlist to get in.
Â
So now hearing more of the side that these kids may be too poor to even afford to use the Cyber Studio, which hadn't crossed my mind, and thinking back that the art place I know was purchased in a poorer area... I'm starting to understand why Benny's past buddies may not be so excited about his dream space. Plus displacing a bunch of homeless people is pretty crummy.
- 5
-
Or was Benny just crazy smart and was seeing the future of the internet laid before his eyes and was prepared to make that cash money??? Maybe it would have been like a cyber cafe without the cafe part???
Maybe it was to prepare for 1993's virtual reality craze!
- 5
-
He wanted the homeless ("tent city") gone from the vacant lot so he can build on it. He wanted the "cyber studio" on the bottom floor and condos on top. As per what this cyber studio was supposed to be like, I imagine it would have been something similar to Entertainment 720?
Â
That visual makes everything better lmao I hope Cyber Studio is exactly Entertainment 720.
Â
He could also idk repurpose another building. Might as well work with the crappy apartments you already own before putting more on your plate.
- 6
-
Haha yes exactly!!
Â
But then I don't get why Benny was letting them stay there for free in the first place??
Â
On this note, I don't think I ever understood what a cyber studio was supposed to be. Or why Benny had to buy a whole neighborhood and kick people out to make it.

This was the one time I thought Columbus used the medium well. When he hits his head, they go into the sequence where Maureen shows up, and there's all the other people dancing, and she keeps jumping from partner to partner. Then Joanne is like, "Are you okay?" and he snaps back to reality.
Â
That sequence wasn't in the stage production, and I think it would have been hard to pull off as well as in the movie. I wish they had made more use of the medium change, as it might have helped it feel less...off.
Â
I think it's like it broke reality and showed us more than what the real world could show. So that was a really fun scene, and I also wish it was used more.
Â
Compared to "I should tell you", which neither showed or told us anything lol

Also how the heck did Tom rewire the ATM to give out free money upon using the code A-N-G-E-L? I mean it's been a while since I've used an ATM, but I thought they only had number pads?

No, these fuckers need be young. I couldn't stand Old Mark. I get Young Mark. It feels much more tragic when you're thinking, "These are just young, scrappy (sometimes dumb) kids."
Yeah, they all looked old, but I figured they were supposed to be around college age? Given how they lived and acted.

I had trouble getting Roger. Like I get the initial "I like you, but I moved away from that lifestyle so stay away from me" but he seemed to flip flop so often I kinda stopped caring.
Â
He had pretty hair though.
Â
Also what kind of guitar did he have that he could buy a car after selling it?
Â
Â
Â
I'll admit we were working on a jigsaw puzzle while watching this, so I may have missed some stuff. Please feel free to correct me if I error.

I have not watched the stage version. But the movie made me very frustrated at times. As far as the music, Seasons of Love was fine, and I like Tango: Maureen and I'll Cover You. I absolutely hated I Should Tell You.
Â
I really liked Tom and Angel. They were way more interesting to me than the other couples. Joanne and Maureen made me especially angry that Joanne even accepted the proposal pff
Â
Can I say coming into the movie knowing nothing about it and seeing it set up on Christmas, for a while I thought maybe Angel would be a real angel? But then she kills the dog, so lol
Â
Â
tbh I was really sad they killed her off, she was the best character. I wanted to punch everyone besides Tom at the funeral.
Â
Â
I'm gonna pull a Jason and say that everything after Mark hits his head during the tango is a Jacob's Ladder scenario.

Somehow I remembered that the local CD Exchange had Rent in their bargain bin. They still had it, so I picked it up yesterday lol hopefully my roommate and I can watch it today. I'm excited!

"Musical Mondays: Fixing Your Dysfunctional Relationship With Your Parents One Song at a Time."
The best thing was, just before I called I was telling my roommate how when I'm on the phone with both my parents at the same time, my dad usually just listens in. But when I brought up the musical discussion, he dominated the conversation for a bit. I was surprised.
Â
They had also just gotten home from seeing Pippin, so I think that helped their excitement.

-
What, I see my name being mentioned, but I've been away what's going on lol
Â
Trying to find where I can find a copy of Rent to watch sometime this weekend. Hmm...
Â
I had a nice little discussion with my parents about musicals the other day or so and found out my mom's best friend likes Rent apparently. I got recommendations from my parents too, they got real chatty when I brought up the subject lol

Haha, that wasn't my actual suggestion! I was just trying to express my horrible cruelty.
Â
Thinking about it now, my fallback GIF might have caused the same confusion.
lol whooops
Â
but yeah still, feel free to join in!

For the record (because we had this conversation ages ago, and it's good to throw in a reminder from time to time), the criteria is just "is a musical," and that can be as broadly defined as you like. If you can justify it being a musical, it's fair game. It doesn't have to be amazing, and it doesn't have to be "HDTGM-worthy."
Â
I wasn't aiming for HDTGM-worthy, byt I did promise regret lol
Â
I was more thinking of the criteria of the characters singing. I mean, they do sing, but some of it is the songs over footage, rather than onscreen singing. That's what is throwing me off.

Yeah! Tomspanks made the undisputed WORST PICK EVER without any doubt, conversation, or question. No one could ever do worse! No one!
Â
Â
I feel like I possibly could with what I'm thinking of, but I'm still debating it. I can't remember how well it meets the criteria we're working with.

I don't have time to watch these movies (let alone study 10+ pages of comments in an effort to say something half-intelligent) each week, so you can have what would've been my wonderful/horrible selection…
Â
Man, I love The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. I'd watch that in a heartbeat!

I thought maybe the meatless meatballs were visually different from regular meatballs to where you might turn up your nose at them, but a quick Google search shows they just look like meatballs.
Â
So yeah, if you're ordering freaking tofu dogs and burgers, you got no right to scoff at someone's meatless meatballs. Wtf.
