I feel like the key to this gif would be to now say 'THIS IS A RAMBLE' and then really go nuts ranting. But the point is mostly to say that that's not a ramble, that's a great set of observations. Ramble on, Jam!

I mean, I could be more rambly if you really want, but it's not gonna be anything significant.

It took me a while before I got that the cabaret show songs WERE related to the story.

Also I felt bad I didn't recognize Liza Minnelli when I had seen her on The Muppet Show. I missed her name during the opening credits. She's a great performer.

None of the guys rate high on the TN Scale imho.

And agreed that Max's moustache was hard to see at first and just looked weird the whole time.

I loved how Natalia was taller than Fritz.

I enjoyed the song "Mein Herr" but it went on so long I ended up checking my phone.

The mannequin game is strong in this movie.

I don't think Brian is the right person to translate that erotic novel.

  2. Home from work, so I can finally comment! First of all, I went into this musical knowing almost nothing about it, aside from a couple songs my roommate remembered. While I cannot say I loved it, I can definitely say it was an entertaining watch.

Minor note, we watched it with subtitles and it kept throwing me off, because my roommate and I both studied some German in high school, and I was like "Why are they translating 'Fraulein' to 'Miss'? Is it that difficult?" Things like that. I kept distracting myself lol

As others stated, it was interesting how it brought in topics that weren't usually approached at that time. I can appreciate that. It's very in your face, and uncomfortable, which I think is the point, especially with so much of it wrapped around living in denial. I think it was very well put together, but I also don't feel like I took much away from it.

Joining in on the topic of Brian's sexuality, I'm going to lean more towards what Cam Bert was saying and go with it's not something that can really be labeled (at this time). I think he's still on the road to discovering himself, and he never ever says "I like X" to anyone. I believe he's the one who started kissing first when trying to comfort Sally during her breakdown, but so much of this movie is people getting caught up in the moment that it's hard to get a sense of how they truly feel inside. Again, because often they're following delusions.

What I found most interesting was how Sally and Brian especially did not judge each other or their lifestyles. When Sally gets the idea that Brian may not like women, she immediately backs off out of respect. When they do hook up, Brian does not try to change Sally or get her out of her world of cabaret. When Sally has the abortion, he is upset, but accepts her reasoning with forgiveness. They are such an odd pair, but their friendship grows deep.

Max was such an odd character to me btw, but I also found it interesting that although he initially went after Sally, he fully accepted Brian in as well. The cigarette holder he gives Brian, I at first thought was just an afterthought to try to placate a jealous lover, but looking back... Everything Max bought for Sally she asked for, but the cigarette holder he bought specifically with Brian in mind, without any input. It was thoughtful.

But Max also just dumps them to escape out to Argentina, so he's not that good of a friend lol

I got a bit into the relationship between Fritz and Natalia. I think I enjoyed them the most. It's so hard though, because they are characters I'd truly want to be happy, but with that setting, it sure looks bleak...

Anyway, I think I'll leave it there. I feel I rambled enough.

  3. If it's any consolation, my roommate likes coconut. And sometimes I'm nice enough to buy cookies with coconut for her.

Also different topic, and I'm sure this is old news, but I had no idea until recently that Danny from Game Grumps said HDTGM is his favorite podcast. I'm happy.

  5. Okay, I fiiiiinally, got to watch this, but I haven't gotten to read through the thread yet. Omg 8 pages.

*Edit* I'm only finished reading page 2, but wow, you all have had some good discussions going. I'm not sure I'll have much to add being this late in. I gotta sleep for now, so I'll try to catch up more tomorrow.

  6. did ye see this?

i think between us and all the photoshop efforts we've posted over the years we could fill the show ... it would be a crappy show but that would make it even funnier. a load of art fans wandering around their gallery wondering "what the f**k is this???"

omg if it was just full of the original movie posters but with their faces photoshopped in lol I'd love it

I was tempted to apply, but I realized my art portfolio is severely lacking, so I wouldn't know what to send in as a sample.

  7. I don't understand why comic book movies never have cool comic book covers for posters. I mean, there's decades to choose from.

If we go that route, I sure hope the next Superman movie uses my favorite cover of all time!!

I waste my 200th post on this trash.

But tbh I cannot deny I love it.

    My mom owns this book.

    Title: Great read! or hear??

This book is kinda like the movie, but better. imagine the movie with more action and that kinda stuff times 10...thats what the book is like. I read it cover to cover in one sitting. It is an easy read that will keep your attention the entire time. i suggest you go get your free copy of this book at my store on tuesday at 5. The audio version is also available in my voice.

  9. Oh and I wanted to say re: the Amazon price of "Surf Ninjas" novelizations going up. It might not be that they have actually increased in value so much as Amazon has had more people searching for them (because of the podcast) and thus raised the prices. I know they often will charge you more for a product you had searched previously than something you never looked at before.

I am sure the prices will go down again.

That's possible. I'm not seeing any $50 prices for the book on ebay lol

I DID, however, discover there's an AUDIO BOOK version that someone has up for BIN. Performed by Ernie Reyes Jr. That's... someone's treasure.

  10. Dude, Nordic people don't fuck around when it comes to licorice. That's literally the worst place you could have started.

My aunt married a Danish dude, and he has a little pouch of licorice he carries with him to chew on after meals. When I was a kid, I was like, "Oh, is that candy?" And he was like, "Yeah, man. Try some." And then he laughed his ass off as I tried to get the flavor out of my mouth.

Now I like bitter things, so he gives me licorice partly as a joke to remind me of when that happened and partly because he has the hookup on really good licorice and he knows I like it.

I'm kinda surprised that I wasn't exposed to it as a kid, considering I had great-grandparents from Norway and Finland. I don't remember anyone in my family eating licorice except for when my mom would buy Twizzlers.

I figure I'm just lucky I missed the lutefisk. My grandfather hated that.

  11. I love licorice, World's End (though it probably is the weakest of the Cornetto Trilogy), and especially Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I guess I am just a sucker for the swill they sell me.

On Willy Wonka, the daycare center I went to after school played it a lot (along with The Red Balloon) and we were often forced to sit down and watch them. I think I developed an aversion to freakish things happening to children. I also could not handle Earnest Scared Stupid, which I had to leave the theater shortly after the first kids were turned to wood. In somewhat recent years, my roommate had me try to watch Little Monsters, and I still could not deal and didn't finish the movie. I know I'm the odd one out there. I don't know what happened lol

I totally respect that most everyone else likes Willy Wonka, and Gene Wilder was pretty awesome.

  12. What are you all reading right now? I'm reading this: https://www.amazon.c...ands/1781312575 - it's SO good.

And then 12 other books, plus 'Fool'. Oy.

I have a Japanese word for you, which I count myself under...

    307njax.jpg

I have about four Japanese manga/novel series that I read as soon as I get them, and most other books get neglected on my shelves. Notably I have Nick Offerman's "Paddle Your Own Canoe" mostly read from LAST SUMMER, but I've been a lazy ass on the last couple chapters. I also got "SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome" for Christmas, but haven't really delved into it yet because I keep playing a dumbass mobile game before bed instead of reading. And so, so many more...

  13. Sorry, I totally feel like I should do a patented Fister apology for being a grumpy bugger. Hopefully Scheer doesn't come on here to throw his support behind Brode.

I'm sure there are better ones I can recommend.

Nah man, no worries. I'd give the same reaction if someone was recommending a How to Draw Manga book by Katy Coope. Some things just set you on fire inside. I'm no expert on Shakespeare as I mentioned, so I'm happy to have someone steer me towards better material.

    (sorry)

That Douglas Brode book is widely discredited in the field now: it's really badly researched and written like a nine year old with fingerpaint.

    I kinda... hate it.

    (sorry)

He for realz refers to Shakespeare as 'Gentle Will' on most occasions. I have to hook you up with a better Shakespeare on film text, I think, Jam. ;)

lmao okay. Hey if that's the case, I can dump that book off at Half Price instead and clear off some shelf space. I'll be looking forward to your recommendation then!!
