  1. Man, I am not really a romance movie fan. So I think the best I could pick would be The Princess Bride, because it's got adventure and amusing characters to help compliment the romance.

This also reminded me that I forgot to add You've Got Mail to letterboxd. I liked that one, but less for the romance and more because I related to the female lead being obsessed with the internet.

Romantic song... that is sooo much harder ugh! Just... get me one of the Time Life Ultimate Love Song collections and I'll probably be singing along to everything.

  2. Yeah, okay, my roommate got excited when I mentioned seeing LEGO Batman, so that was our theater movie for the month. It's of course goofy, but clever. There's at least one obscure movie reference in it that everyone here should appreciate. I laughed harder than I probably should have.

xXx:RoXC was playing in the theater next to it, so I gave it a wave.

Also discovered one of my coworkers works at that theater too. Huh.

  3. FULL TITLE!!!!

xander Xander xander: Return of Xander Cage

As someone who saw 5 movies in the theater over the last two days, I say:

Tbh I would love to, but I don't have the finances, so theater-goings are few and far between. But I will happily await to hear how everyone else's viewing experiences goes! Bring me back some popcorn!

  4. If I go to the theater for a movie, it's gonna be for LEGO Batman, not xXx. Sorry. I'll just enjoy listening to the next episode. Good luck to everyone who ventures out for that one.

But yeah, on the school semester thing, my school even one-upped that, where it wasn't just half-year electives. EVERYTHING was half a year. They decided to do "block scheduling" leaving us with only 4 long classes per day for half a year and then switching to 4 completely different classes the last semester. This fucked me up pretty good, but I'll spare the rant. It definitely makes sense if Mitchell is joining in for a new semester.

Now the actual passage of time within the movie still confuses me.

  5. Copying is a tried and tested method of learning to paint but you generally don't release them. He's ignored Van Gogh's careful complementary colours and form and made a masterpiece into something you could hang next to the scented candles in a 2 star resort in Iowa. Very "decorative". Mediocrity is the worst crime in art.

I assume that texture is either paintwork or pre-textured canvas. Throw a bunch of sand and stuff into the paint or primer. They look pretty thick so I assume it's oil but they're very matte and dull so it could be acrylic or unvarnished.

    Judgemental art nerd out.

Ok wow wtf. That is not cool. I didn't recognize those pieces, but seeing those comparisons makes me angry. That is not how you use references. Like being inspired and imitating a style I can understand, but obvious copies like that which you're trying to SELL is pretty taboo. There is no excuse for that and it makes me wonder what other pieces in that gallery are copies.

I thought the textures might've been pre-painting too, I've done that as well, but when I stared at them longer, the textures seemed to affect the intensity of the colors consistently across various areas of different colors, which makes me think that another image of a texture was added digitally afterwards. In one of his paintings, the texture has an almost brick pattern to it, which would be pretty hard to achieve unless it was painted on bricks. I thought maybe it could be a rubbing, but that still feels off...

  6. Also I looked and the Texas Realtor's paintings are basically just cafe/doctors surgery/office wall art. Most of them are actually stylised copies of Van Gogh paintings.

I think I've been staring at this guy's artwork for like an hour now and it is driving me CRAZY, mostly because I can't put my finger on what mediums he's using!! It looks like some of them have had textures added post completion of the original artwork, which is interesting... And yeah, a number of them definitely have a sort of Van Gogh feel to them, especially in color choices. But I think the most frustrating for me is that some of the images have such poor resolution, they look absolutely horrible. The pixelation makes me want to cry.

Sorry, not movie related just... I got stuck on this. Please send help.

  7. Okaaay late agaaaain but we finally watched the movie last night and I just finished the podcast while working on some art and I come here to find TWELVE PAGES OF COMMENTS??! It's gonna take me a while to read through!!

I will say I initially embarrassed myself at the beginning of the movie because I was ABOUT to make fun of Mitchell for having a Golden Retriever named SLASH, but then I remembered when my family got a Golden Retriever puppy when I was little and I named him FLASH. Kinda like "Hahaha, what a stupid nam- oh..."

I feel like I had a specific point I was going to bring up, but it's escaping me right now. I'll see if I can recall after I get to read through all the comments.

  8. I'm finally catching up!! I listened to the minisode today! I listened all the way through to the ad for Gilbert Gottfried's podcast, which is mostly because even though his voice is so irritating I just... can't... stop... listening...

I'm excited for this Airborne movie! Definitely gotta look it up for Friday! There's just so many 90s movies that are awful but just SO 90s you can't help but enjoy them.

Ironically, today I am wearing a shirt I got back in 1994 via a SEGA catalog to tie in with the Sonic & Knuckles game and it's pretty damn 90s if I say so myself.

    They have "Atti2udes"! Holy shit!

(Wearing this bit of nostalgia to celebrate friends' made up holiday "Hedgehog Day" for the release of Sonic 3 (Feb 2, 1994))

  9. Wow, I didn't notice that I had gotten one newsletter mail telling me to sign up AGAIN for another newsletter system. This has been the most confusing newsletter ever lol Thanks for filing things into weird folders instead of my inbox, gmail.

I still have not watched Highlander II, which is why I've been absent. Between work and my roommate getting really sick it's just been one of those weeks. Need to catch up soon...

  10. Well as someone that listens to his podcasts on his MP3 player white exercising and swimming, I guess I just can't listen to the older episodes any more, since you can't download them to an mp3 player. Also, where is the $2.91 price coming from? The Howl site says $4.99/month. You know, if I want to just take my laptop swimming with me.

The $2.91 price is explained on this post: http://forum.earwolf.com/topic/42205-paywall-special-announcement/page__view__findpost__p__237808

  11. I was gonna type out a long post, but I'm just going to agree with everything Paul said. Plus it's his podcast and I'm sure he has his own vision for how he wants to present it.

I will say HDTGM is the first podcast I have ever listened to with any sort of regularity and I will continue to follow it, but I certainly wouldn't be nearly as invested if there hadn't been the library of old episodes for me to go through. I appreciate that Paul worked out this solution for us.

  12. Finally got to listen to the announcement, and I just wanted to add that this sounds like a decent compromise and good incentive to get people to subscribe if they want to. Thank you, Paul, for working so hard for us.

Man, we were at Quiznos the other day and I saw their sign for their points system and it reminded me of the show lol. I wish I could sign up, but we only go a couple times a year, because the one that used to be down the street closed down. We miss it.
