  1. Boo, the Mariah Carey video was removed. Too lazy to look up another upload lol

Haven't watched Escape from LA yet. Maybe tomorrow...

I always avoided watching horror movies, then somehow some years ago my roommate pulled me into the genre by having me watch The Thing. As far as Carpenter movies, I've also seen Halloween, Big Trouble in Little China, The Fog, Escape from New York, and In the Mouth of Madness. I like most of them, except for The Fog.

  2. I hope everyone has an enjoyable New Years!! I gotta do that bookkeeping thing again tomorrow morning, so I will not be staying up.

Roommate and I listened to this minisode again while playing some Animal Crossing New Leaf.

I took this picture to share of my five Jacob's Ladder plants. Seemed appropriate for some reason, I'm not quite sure why.

  3. Ahh, I'm happy my essay comment was read. All the comments were great. I think the bowling alley rant is my fave

This minisode's Reese's outtake reminded me... When I was in elementary school I recall going to a softball game with my dad. He gave me some money for a snack, so I happily went off to the tiny concession stand, excited to get some Reese's Pieces. Except I asked for them as "Reesee's Piecees". The old lady manning the stand glared at me and corrected my pronunciation in such a tone that I thought I had done something seriously taboo. After that I always made sure to pronounce it correctly in fear of offending someone else. It makes me so happy to know I'm not the only one who would say it wrong.

I'm excited to watch Escape from L.A. I saw Escape From New York for the first time a month or so ago, and found the sequel for cheap at CD Exchange, so I'm all set to go!

  4. I hope everyone had a great holiday!!

Ahh, jerrycanada, thanks for sharing the McCartney video. I love that song, but only managed to catch the tail end on the radio this year. Meanwhile I'm pretty sure I heard "Last Christmas" like 5 times. I'm sad now.

But yeah, Christmas was good! Too warm here in south Texas though, ugh.

Finally got to listen to the Howdies part 2 just now. It's been fun listening to, and I'll definitely try to look up some of the episodes I've missed!

I think we should give Jason a fanaward. Maybe for being The Best Jason of The Group.

  5. Finally listened to this today while at work (hooray for being in a little room by myself lmao). A lot of these clips are from before I started following the podcast, so I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do, but it was still enjoyable to get a taste of what I've missed.

Man, I'm like June sometimes. I don't remember half the shit I watch. I swear I've seen Abraxas (with Rifftrax commentary) like 3 times, and I still could not even begin to tell anyone what it's about.

Is Jason the new DiCaprio? When will he get his Howdie?!

  6. Man, I do enjoy musicals, but I'm not sure I can keep up with viewing everything. It sounds fun though! I think I'd throw a vote in for Little Shop of Horrors.

Also glad that animated movies are being considered. With that category I'd be tempted to throw in The Beatles Yellow Submarine, because it's so bizarre and I can still unashamedly quote parts of it. Help me.

  7. Okay, I can't really find good information, so if anyone wants to assist...

I wanted to find out how many essays Michael had to write in order to afford his motorcycle. I can't really find any good info about how much a motorcycle cost in 1961. I did find an ask online estimating a Harley Davidson cost about $500 at that time, but Michael is definitely buying a used hunk of junk, not a Harley.

Michael seems to be making maybe about $5 per essay (he was definitely handed five $1 bills under the bleachers, I couldn't catch what denomination he received in the bunker). On screen we see he's done at least 4 essays for the Tbirds, which would be of course $20.

By the time Michael gets to the bike yard, the seller is holding a small handful of money. I work a bookkeeping position handling money on weekends, so by the size of the stack my personal guess is that there's somewhere between 60 to 80 bills, but I can't assume they're all the same denomination. If it's only 80 $1s, that would put him at 20 essays, but I feel like I could easily be underestimating the cost of the bike.

I just want to know how many of these long essays Michael slaved away on. Could there have been a better way to make money? Also how loaded are the Tbirds that they could give away $5 for each of these papers?

I don't think I covered it all - a proper parallel reading might be necessary. Would love for you to take on filling in the gaps!

I will give a parallel I noticed: the winners of the dance/talent competition end up not being the main couple, but just the cool one and some other "cool" person, leaving the other uncool half of the pair out of the picture. Of course the main difference here is that Sandy was forced out of the dance by some jerks, whereas Michael would've only been piano backup so he had no chance to win anyway.

  9. While it does seem a little odd that Michael is from England, I didn't question it too much, because I do know an Australian who has family in England. I think I found it more odd that Michael just happens to move BY HIMSELF to the same little town his cousin moved to as a high schooler. I know technically he's living with an "uncle", but it feels a bit too convenient lol like why did he transfer there? Isn't there usually some academic goal for that?

  10. Okay. Guys. The bowling scene. Can we talk about the bowling scene?

Let's talk about the bowling scene.

Oh my gooood alllllll of this!! That scene made me so angry! I used to go bowling so just I really wanted to see all of them fall of their asses. And yeah, that "Shoot the ball" line... Who says that??

Also the spinning dance sequence where the film was obviously sped up... idk, that whole thing was way too cartoony for me. I honestly didn't even watch the whole segment.

I'd like to bring up this inconsistency between Grease 1 and Grease 2: How is it that in Grease 2 the Pink Ladies BELONG to the Tbirds? I'm pretty sure there was no limitations on either groups' available dating options in the first Grease.

And yes, please, please, pleeease mention that High School Musical was based on Grease 3. Thank you forever for that trivia, CakeBug Tranch.

  11. They are moving to the bigger venue next door, which they really should have been in to begin with, so there will be more tickets coming soon!

I have a lot of alerts set up to notify me of when this happens so I'll make sure to post here when I hear more!

Omg okay. I guess I better keep a closer eye on twitter too. I'm starting to feel better, so hopefully I won't sleep through important announcements this time.

  12. I honestly enjoyed The Apple way way more than Grease 2 (and TBH I probably liked The Apple more than most popular musicals). That said, I am trying to decide whether "Reproduction" or "Coming" from The Apple is the more subtle metaphor for sex.

I honestly think the songs in The Apple are a lot catchier than what Grease 2 had to offer. I liked "Coming" better.

The teacher who assigned the essay with the subject of 'The Fall of Rome' and 'William the Conqueror' was really mailing in their syllabus that week. Narrow it down a bit, Rydell.

I feel like I shouldn't be mentioning this before the podcast, but did anyone else find the number of essays they had to write to be ridiculous in general? And they didn't look just like a one or two paragraph essay, they look like they're two page essays with a cover letter. What the hell.
