It feels weird they didn't really examine a person being BLOWN UP. It looked like they just cleaned it up and moved on. If Gnorm and MAH can just go back to the park with no trouble and a civilian with a dog can be there after a MAJOR crime... Like shouldn't it be off limits and have police officers scouring the scene and trying to figure out this bomb? A bomb seems like a bog deal to me. I know Homeland Security didn't exist but still. A bomb went off and killed a guy. Forensics probably takes more than a few hours on something like that.  Wouldn't they want to see the scene in the daylight? How does the chief of police make a bomb explosion investigation just disappear? I feel like that's too big to ignore. And because of the security threat wouldn't they go over the park with a fine tooth comb eventually finding the briefcase? And given that the other bomb was in a briefcase wouldn't that be a big deal?

Yeah, I couldn't remember if it was a bomb to be honest. I thought it was but this movie only got 50% attention from me. But you would think this city had a bomb squad. Someone on the force would have scoured the site. We can write it off as Jerry Orbach purposefully mishandled the case, but that really feels like lazy writing. At least have the case buried or in some bushes 50 feet away. Not under the most obvious hiding spot in the immediate vicinity of the explosion.

  2. I know Jerry Orbach is sabotaging the investigation, but it seems weird that the police didn't thoroughly check the playground to find a briefcase filled with money. Certainly the murder site would have some police check out the area for evidence. A briefcase under a merry go round should have been noticed. Unless the crime scene investigators are in on the crime with Jerry Orbach, this is sloppy police work.

I'm sorry, I could not get into this movie at all. I found it simultaneously boring and repulsive. I usually can find something to enjoy in anything, but this just wasn't much fun at all.

The still of Gnorm in the tubi preview was enough to really turn me off the movie. It grossed me out. I appreciate how well made and acted Gnorm was by the puppeteers but Gnorm was was too much. Very Mac and Me kind of nauseated. I agree with everything they said with the actors; they really were great.

The talk about lack of support reminds me when I couldn't log back into my account for about two months as I had my password/username logged in and it got cleared when I updated my browser. Tried contacting support and got zilch for it, and was only able to get back on by process of elimination of my login combos. It's also kind of telling when this is really one of the only forums still going on the page as other shows have fallen off the map or haven't even been given one, like How Did This Get Played when I checked a few months back, though that could have changed.

I think this has always been the case. When I signed up, I had trouble just posting for some reason. I thought maybe I missed a confirmation email or maybe there was a wait time to limit bots or something. I sent a message to support and never heard back. I eventually just made a different account.

  5. It looks like you can still access the forums from the front page, but it only leads to the main forums (which is logical). While I would necessarily think the episode specific thread needs to be linked from each episode's page, I do think at least linking to the podcast's specific forum would make sense.

We'll vote on it :) Some movies are just bummers.

Yeah. If people want to watch it, go for it. It's just a kind of poorly made drama instead of something crazy as I recall. Had they cast a little person instead of Gary Oldman, it would just be a boring movie.

Yea, if we want to share links, joke around, share what we're watching, be like 'hey good morning friends!', post a meme, etc. Discord is pretty fun! And very bonding. I'm in one for another pod and the channels are always having great conversation. We've also started helping each other with fitness, and there's book clubs, fantasy sports leagues, and all sorts of community things rising out of it. I haven't tried the streaming watchalong things on there yet.

(To note, I have not once posted in Paul's, but I have glanced around it. Maybe it will get there. I believe it requires heavy moderation.)

That's why I test-started one for Musical Mondays, just so maybe we can keep in touch better (and on wider topics). (I'm fine with it not catching on though lol.)

Anyway, I don't think the two things should be at odds. In fact, they should and could work together.

For sure this last part. Discord is fine. Message boards are fine. I like both and, even though they can overlap in function a lot, they don't have to. Maybe they shouldn't and maybe they can. It was really just the "earwolf boards suck ass" said in a, as I heard it, not a joking at all tone. Promote discord all you want but not at the expense of us and the people who run/moderate these boards for earwolf.

Paul has been talking to me and @JammerLeaon Twitter. It’s too difficult to post it all here though. He’s asking if we could build out our own discord that could function like the forums. I have no idea how to do that, but I’d be open to it.

I've never run one but if you open it to the public as an HDTGM board, that's probably a lot of work to moderate or even maintain a sentence of control of.

I took the "don't spread this misinformation" to be the joke he was referring to, not what he said on the ep. I could be wrong. It could be both.  Who knows? If only there was a platform that allowed people to express their thoughts fully and clearly without having to worry about character count :P

Yeah, the forums do suck for phone. I agree with that. But, again, it's about the platform. Discord, Geneva, Twitter, aren't made for long discussions, just eruptions of spontaneous word vomit. The forums are better on a computer because you are generally typing and expressing more than "KUMITE!"

    For sure.

I think in depth discussion is dependent on the size of the board as much as anything else. I've had some in depth discussion on discord, but something the size of Paul's discord is probably going to be difficult. Even on a message board.

Presumably the GEOSTOOOOORM!/KUMITE!!!! posts go away because how often can you realistically say that? But, I guess, if people are having fun, let them have fun.

    UPDATE:

It's good he clarified that but that definitely didn't come off as a joke. He's joked about the boards before and it's been fine and I've defended it as jokes.

I'll agree with him and almostaghost that discord is a much friendlier platform for phone use. I think it's a much more robust format because it allows voice chat and streaming. So, bemoaning discord over message boards is a bit like arguing for myspace in the year 2021. As you said earlier, he could have just promoted the discord without the dig on the boards.

The "don't spread this misinformation" is a real " this is fake news" kind of claim though.

I Tweeted at him, but more jokingly. A text to him might be a good idea.

I think, and I could be wrong, he just meant the platform sucks ass. He’s been saying that ever since Earwolf changed things up from the classic forums. I’ve privately wondered if he never took the time to customize his experience. I remember the default was originally a garish bright white which looked terrible and hurt my eyes. We Shannon had to come in the boards and tell us how to change the color scheme manually. I remember that soon after he specifically complained about it on a mini. He really hasn’t been present on the boards since. I can’t really think of another reason why they would suck. I find them far simpler than most sites, and not the headache inducing cacophony of Geneva or Discord.

But yeah, just saying it “sucks ass” is kind of a kick in the teeth. The people are great here, and always have been. Saying the forums “suck ass” really deters people from taking the time to come here and make an account. It sounds like we’re all fighting, nasty, and gross — which couldn’t be further from the truth. We are all welcoming (except for the occasional asshole). I don’t even remember the last time we’ve had a significant negative experience.

Anyway, I wish @paulscheerwould clarify that it’s not the people here who suck ass. I would love if more people would join up. 🙂 They are a fun place, but no one is going to want to come hang out if the host gives off the impression that they’re a cesspool.

I believe the default view of the boards is now what it used to be. I don't know how long it's been this way, but I suspect a long while.

I get message boards are outdated but, honestly, discord functions almost exactly like a message board. It doesn't quite allow for different topics as well in a long term scenario (at least for different episodes of HDTGM). I use discord. So, this isn't just old man yells at cloud. If he's not into message boards and prefers discord, fine. If he said message boards in general suck, fine. But to say this one in particular does, it's a jerk move.

  11. "Sometimes the earwolf boards suck ass" - Paul Scheer

Cool. Thanks, Paul. It was really cool of you to say that.

I think it's fine that you spend more time on your discord than the message boards. I didn't join these boards for interaction with the hosts. It makes more sense to be on discord or twitter because more people are on those platforms. They are newer and fresher and message boards are slowly dying. I use discord regularly and joined Paul's discord (but am not posting because I'm not vibing with it which is totally fine). It seems incredibly rude to the people running the message boards and the people who post here who have made as welcoming a community as I've found on the internet.

The only time the boards have been bad are 1. When outsiders come to post once to complain anytime a lesbian is a guest on the show then never ever post again and 2. the one time they were down to change servers (which is a totally understandable thing).

So, I don't know what Paul is talking about on saying the boards "suck ass" but there's no way to hear it that's not insulting. Because in no way do they suck ass.

Playing on a PS4 here and yeah not having major issues. Out of the 65 hrs I've already put into it it's only crashed three times and the rest is the usual bugs you see in huge open world games. Yeah it's dishonest to put an review embargo on consoles, but seeing some of the clickbaity reviews after the fact where article thumbnails make it look like PS2 graphics are equally as bad. It's a funny thing I've noticed with how critics and players react to major Triple-A titles that have a bit of build up to them.

On one hand you have CDPR who have been teasing and promoting the shit out of this game for eight years by the time of its release and by all accounts went at a pretty steady pace to develop the game with no real crunch until this last year to try and get the game out in the current generation. The end result was a game that had serious problems and needed massive patches on release to fix them (the patch I had to download when I put the disc in the first time was 47GB,) and it is being lambasted for said result. On the other hand you have a developer like Rockstar that even though everyone knows they are working on a game, no one really knows what it is until about 18 months before its release and it's a gradual marketing strategy that usually starts with a title/logo reveal followed by quick teasers and eventually full trailers and gameplay footage. They got lambasted with the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 because it was revealed that they were working almost 100hr work weeks to make the game and make it as immersive as many had every seen in a video game.

The difference though was that the game came out with virtually no bugs and only the usual glitches an open world game has like animal skins being on the wrong animal. Outside of that the game was the game of the year in both critical and financial terms. I'm not saying time crunch is the way to go but the hypocrisy of the game playing public with these two games is astonishing, because you can bet if CDPR was allowed to finish the polish on the game and do a proper release on next gen systems it would be lauded as a masterpiece, but the push was being made for a release NOW. And of all the people playing RDR2 who also bemoaned the crunch had noticed a glitch or some piece of realism they felt should have been there that wasn't, because Rockstar didn't crunch to get it made, they would be giving it the treatment Cyberpunk is getting right now. I mean in RDR2 the balls on the horse you ride retract if it's too cold, that was a time crunch decision, and if it wasn't in the game there would be some reviewer who also studied equine science in college who would go after Rockstar for the lack of realism in the game and say more time should have been spent on adding to the overall experience.

Not saying one is more ideal than the other but everything I've been seeing and reading regarding this debacle has been a bit overblown by quite a few outlets. Granted CDPR did not help their cause with how this was marketed, but the backlash and clickbait was insane in response to the game.

My opinion is that both companies were wrong.

I think crunch is dumb and Rockstar shouldn't be doing it. Every game they release is functionally an event and they could push it back whenever they want and still get a few billion dollars. They have no excuse for crunch unless we're talking the last couple weeks. As for the horse testicles thing, I remember Rockstar getting laughed at way more than anything for including that; anyone seriously complaining would have been laughed at would be my guess.

CDPR was supposed to release this many times but back in April was the first serious release date. They weren't just putting polish on a game for nine months that crashes three times in 65 hours. I also refuse to believe there wasn't crunch time if they kept pushing it back but coincidentally made the pre-Black Friday sales in a pretty buggy state.

I'm normally fine trashing gamers because they are the whiniest group of people over the most minuscule complaints. I've seen enough videos of very weird stuff far outside of normal open world quirks or from friends I trust to be honest that this isn't just gamers overreacting. But, again, I haven't played it and I'm going largely on what people I know have said.

Same, I expect there to be bugs in a game this size and have just learned to live with it, but damn some people go nuts when a game isn't as perfect as they pictured it would be in their head.

Are you playing on a PS4 (or possibly Xbox One)? Everyone I've seen saying it's not that bad or no major issues are playing PC or current gen consoles. The only person I know who played it on PS4 said that it's about as bad as people are saying.

As someone who wasn't particularly interested in ever playing it, I don't really care too much how well it plays but it certainly seems dishonest that CDPR wouldn't let reviewers play on consoles and the consoles are having issues. That isn't a coincidence in my mind.

As long as the stuff you’re looking up is interesting, I’m in. If it’s just busywork to fill time (which I thought the paperwork in Control was—they really could have made the reports more interesting than they were), not so much.

I played righ Control last month, I'm glad to see someone else who found the notes to be not helpful. I liked the game okay but by the time (I assume) they explained anything, I gave up trying to follow the plot.

I don’t hate it. But, then again, it’s been included in every version I’ve ever seen, so it’s always just been a part of it for me.

The first time I saw it, it was included. Shortly after that, I found out from friends that it was originally cut and I'm not sure any version I've watched since then has it. I've never missed it.

I just think it's weird that every few years, there's a story about "here's the song you didn't see!" when it was very available on multiple formats.

I just realized some people may not be aware of this:

Get on it and watch, what will be, a lost episode!

I'm curious what the audio error is. Because they could easily rip the audio from the live show itself to edit. Not the best way to do it but certainly serviceable. If they can put out Top Dog and Theodore Rex, this should be easy.

Personally, I think Harrison has a weirdest history with the Beatles. He seemed the most dismissive of it after the fact, but I also get the feeling he would have been happy to have kept going indefinitely with his one or two songs per album. Like, I don’t think he liked the crazy attention surrounding the Beatles, but, ironically, it was easier to hide in the background as Beatle George than be center of attention as Frontman George. I think that’s why he enjoyed being a part of the Wilbury’s too. He was playing with friends for fun, but he was just a part of the group and not the main person.

I have nothing to back this up. Just the vibe I’ve gotten.

I think there's definitely some validity in this. Even after the Beatles, he went to just play back-up for Delaney And Bonnie. I think he wanted to just play music without the stardom (which is true of a lot of musicians).
