Episode 210 - The Secret (w/ Topher Grace, Joel Kim Booster)

I'm just going to add, I think someone is trolling everyone asking for QUEEN OF THE DAMNED. This film was directed by Vincent Perez, whose acting resume has at least two (possibly three films) that would be ripe for HDTGM; Queen of the Damned, the Crow: City of Angels, and I Dreamed of Africa (this is the possible one as I literally don't remember anything about this except the title and it was Kim Basinger's first film after winning an Oscar). -
HDTGM Classics Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn Part 2 (4/12 9PM EST)

Cameron, you've read more into those books then I did. The whole thing just left me with a bad taste in my mouth and is more heavy handed with the Mormon philosophy (which in a weird way, also crosses over into the evangelical Christianity purity movement in this regard. No sex till marriage, first love, the baby is the most important thing ever, etc) then Orson Scott Card's Alvin Maker series (which is like Narnia for Mormons). I'm not saying you are wrong just not how I read it. -

Listening to this episode, I decided I want a movie that is basically a shared universe of all the bodyswap movies ever made. Jodie Foster and Lindsey Lohan and Fred Savage and Charlie Schlatter and Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin and Rachel McAdams and Rob Schnider and...I could go on and on and on. I want to see the Body Swap survivor support group film. -

Matt Fraction's run was so good. I heard about Sex Criminals on the I Sell Comics podcast and then sought out Fractions run after reading it. Just a great book that should have been the tie in to the Netflix world and the MCU

Wasn't that when Ike Permulter was being cheap with the pocketbook? I remember Mickey Rourke, coming off of The Wrestler, being offered scale and Terrance Howard wanting more money so they replaced him. Not to excuse that behavior or the lack of a BW movie. Personally I would have put it after The Avengers as part of Phase 3 or whatever, people really wanted that Black Widow movie that explained the relationship between her and Clint. That was a Marvel "misstep" (in that they were focused on their plans and phases and, in my opinion, not listening to the fans and what they wanted).

Musical Mondays Week 63 A Star is Born (1937)
EvRobert replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
last summer, I went to a comic-con in North Carolina and there was Joey Fatone, signing autographs for something like $30. I almost got one for the office I work at, because why not. Alice Cooper was also t here, signing autographs and doing photo-ops for like $80/a pop, again because why not. That's another area that could have been/could be explored in either path ASIB could take (when it gets remade again in 30 years) -
Musical Mondays Week 63 A Star is Born (1937)
EvRobert replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
There's always a county or state fair or a music festival that is looking for an old act. Or they switch genres, rockers switch to country, country artists go "Christian". I agree, the acting side makes more sense. -
Musical Mondays Week 63 A Star is Born (1937)
EvRobert replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
So random thoughts about A Star Is Born in general 1) I knew going in that this wasn't a musical, but I wasn't expecting it to be a film about Hollywood and acting. I guess, since, the others have always cast such a promiant singer in the role, I've always assumed it was about a singer who makes it big thanks to some svengali influence. 2) regarding ASIB18, I felt that Bradley Cooper was drawing a lot on the Dolly Parton/Porter Wagnor story for inspiration 3) The ASIB formula is so established by now that it's almost become a troupe, could we take these beats and apply them to a different field in a movie other than entertainment? Like, could we make a political drama but following the troupe and beats established in ASIB? -
Sending you all the virtual hugs. I'm pretty close with my cat, Puck, who has been with me through some extremely rough times over the years, so you have my deepest sympathy. As for what do I do, that's hard. What I don't do is listen to depressing music or even slower music. I find things that bring back fond memories (one thing for me is the soundtracks to the stage musicals Legally Blonde and Newsies). I let trusted friends know what is happening so if I start to withdraw too much, they will get on me not to. I listen to comedy podcasts, like this one (there's a few others I can recommend). Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Musical Mondays Week 63 Preview (kateacola’s 4th pick)

I'm going to try and watch this this weekend, but I have a wedding I'm working on Saturday and I'm possibly/potentially moving into a new apartment either this weekend or next week -
I think a legit argument could be made for South Park: BLU even though it was primarily known as a TV show, but I think an argument could be made that it is as groundbreaking as SW (a newer style of animation, catchy musical numbers, adult themes and language, poltical message, and lets be honest, it still holds up). The Iron Giant, as much as I love it (and I do--probably my favorite animated film ever) would be a struggle for it's inclusion

So, no DREAMWORKS ANIMATION? Are you suggesting that Road To El Dorado isn't worthy? What about Don Bluth? No A Troll In Central Park? Bakshi? Seriously though, Road to El Dorado is amazing and it's a shame. But I think Disney/Pixar has such a grip on the public conciseness that nearly ANY animated film is sometimes labeled as "Disney"

I've done some writing for children's theater and the hardest part is to avoid the lessons and moralizing. I think "adults" think that if something is to have value it needs to teach a lesson. Sometimes that can be subtle and sometimes it's Davey and Goliath. My children's writing has no redeeming value. It's all pie in the face and fart jokes.

So, haven't listened to the ep yet, but this is an interesting debate about the Disney films, particularly the early Disney films. Each film was bringing something new to the table, something better, something unique, and each has memorable elements. I think the Dwarfs are probably the most last element of Snow White and establishes kind of the comic helpers, Maleficent is probably the best of the early Disney villains, dumbo establishes more than Snow White the anthropomorphic animals. If an early Disney film has to go in (and I think it does) I would actually vote for Cinderella. I agree, to an extent, with both @Cameron H. and @taylorannephoto, on Cinderella but I think it takes all the elements that were built on previously (only Sleeping Beauty's villain I think is better then the Wicked Stepmother) and makes it into a crowning achievement. That said, I don't have a problem per se with Snow White being on the list, it's just never been my cup of tea. (personally I'm more a fun of the "Disney Sketch Art" years: Dalmatians, Jungle Book, Robin Hood)

Musical Mondays Week 62 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
EvRobert replied to Cameron H.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
I can only agree and add on to what everyone else said and that is take care of yourself first and foremost and that you'll be in my thoughts and will be sending good vibes, prayers, whatever you believe in your way. Also, don't bring yourself down saying it was a shitty choice, I really enjoyed this as well. I have a lot of affection for CCBB and as I mentioned in our Rabbit stream, I used to use Hushabye Mountain as one of my three go-to audition songs. -
