And Iâm assuming all our past threads will disappear as well. Probably for the best. Someone might have noted an odd hair color choice by an actress five years ago. That could be construed as a micro aggression toward people who look pretty in pink.
ÂEdit: I apologize for using a gendered version of the pronoun actor.Â

Love Prince, but found it excruciatingly boring to listen to an episode where their love of prince had them gushing and rationalizing over absurd moments rather than laying in in a comedic style like they would on bad movie they actually enjoyed like Face Off. I honestly donât buy that they liked this movie.

Wasnât Sadie aka âIâm Jasonââ (audience questions) incorrect about it being episode 222? Wasnât it not even close? If true, hilarious since June kept saying âI donât trust her.â Haha, Jason fangirl bit was super cringe.

RE: Pilot certifications and aircraft. I was about to begin a commercial pilot training program before the pandemic hit. So, I went deep into all the reqs and based on what I already know, thereâs no way that guy is flying for Southwest like under a year later based on the fact alone that you need to log 1,500 hours with students as a certified flight instructor to be eligible to fly a commercial passenger plan (it doesnât need to be with students, but thatâs the only way someone other than a very wealthy person is going to be able to get 1,500 hours flying). And before you can be a certified flight instructor (CFI), youâll be spending 7 months minimum getting your commercial pilot license (seven months in the shortest CPL program Iâve ever seen listed).
ÂAnd, of course, youâll need to get added training time on whatever specific type of commercial plane youâre going to fly. You canât just jump in a passenger plane because you have gotten a commercial pilot license.bEven a highly favored Southwest cadet (cadets are pilots in training that are part of a commercial airlineâs training program) couldnât do it that fast. Cadet spots are coveted and typically go to young folks since they want to get the maximum career mileage out of you to justify their expenses. Plus, forget being a commercial pilot if thereâs anything in your medical, legal or discoverable history that establishes drug use, alcohol abuse or psychiatric issues.Â

âA Man of the Claw.â Gotta love that. Iâd have preferred âA Man of the Clawthâ though.
The hooker who convinces him to use his power to fight crime must be an allusion to Mary Magadalein (sp?).Â

I now realize I agree with you, Graham, after writing this suggestion about doing more âgood, bad movies.â Soulless tripe is the least likely to produce a classic episode. Iâll still hold out hope though.

No film suggestion, but a general suggestion:
I think HDTGM has its highest ratio of classic episodes (EG, where the hosts are super energized and we hear lots of huge host + audiences laughs & crazy movie provoked digressions) when they review critically hated movies that are widely loved (or at least widely considered entertaining/fun yet understood to be ridiculous by its own fans). Off the top of my head, Iâd cite Blood Sport, Face Off, Cobra, Time Cop, Deep Blue Sea, Con Air, The Running Man and the Twilight w/the huge, imagined battle as examples of great episodes from this type of movie.
We canât miss out on amazing stuff like Miami Connection & Hell Comes to Frog Town, but maybe less widely panned big budget garbage like Speed 2, which is often just soulless tripe rather than garbage with life.
The last paragraph makes me see now why a lot of folks are not thrilled to see HDTGM doing Transformers (I had said I thought itâd be funny).Â

Taylor: I appreciate the data correction. Iâm a research/factoid junky and a nitpicker. So, I love getting the correct facts. lol
Anyway, in 2019, 27.6% of movies starred a minority in a leading role. Since 72% of Americans are caucasian, that seems to be a dead on reflection of population demographics. Hopefully, those movies were much more nuanced portrayals (I.E., no animated films where like we know the cow is supposed to rep an Af-Am character because it says  a âyou da, cow!â to his bovine buddies).
EDIT: I deleted a really, way too long post related to all this stuff (I.E., what I think are worst driving factors behind all this misjustice taking place), but I think itâd be better to have a dedicated thread for those who wish to discuss these issues than risk hi-jacking the episode discussion w/political convo. Iâll leave that up to admins/mods or members who sort of fill that function. Gotta say, if this werenât the most civil forum Iâve possibly ever seen, I wouldnât even have dared touch these topics w/a 10 foot pole.

Interesting take, Danny.Â
I think the movie missed a HUGE opportunity in not providing more back story for the evil ninja, especially with the shaman calling âGreat Lord.â It would have made the story most compelling to have had the shaman, the good ninja or the spirit itself divulge his history and motivations (or better, yet, if she had been able to see glimpses of when possessed). Like:
-has the spirit been passing through different vessels for centuries (E.G., the body we first see it in or has it been in that body for all its time? Having been called Great Lord seems to indicate itâs some legendary demon or ghost of a famous dead Shogun, Samuari, etc Â
-And what happened to make the EN (evil ninja) and/or its spirit so malevolent? And is his malevonce indiscriminate or targetedÂ
-Was the spirit part of a clan that had once warred with the GN (good ninja)
-And is that why he went after the GN and who were those people holding GN arms when he took his eye out?
I could go on forever, but had they taken an hour to write a minute or two of flash backs or exposition to tell us more it would have been much more interesting. And what happened to the EN can only be killed at this specific mountain temple in Japan?

Thanks for the welcome. Hopefully, they focus on their encounters with Shia Leboeuf at the gym and his wardrobes or casting stories (e.g., famously, Megan Foxâs audition literally consisted of her washing Bayâs Ferrari in a bikini...or that could just be some popular myth). Â

2 hours ago, Elektra Boogaloo said:I didnât mean to be like âyou guys arenât doing enoughâ but I was trying to think of something actionable that the podcast could undertake. I am sure the 8% is correct where you are. In LA it is 11%. Letâs round down to 10. They have done 241 movies. I would argue they shoot try to have had 24 Black guests or thereabouts? And I donât meant to say they have not because I can think of Nicole, Tawny Newsome, Hannibal Burress, Colton Dunn and Rhetta off the top of my head. I think they have had a fair number but maybe not 24. I could look at the list of guests on Wikipedia but I am lazy.Â
Was just trying to be helpful not critical.Â
Â
Sorry i I have little to say about the film. I didnât watch it. I do love the music in that clip. And I really hope we get âHow Did We Get Scheerâ category or supercut in the Howdies. I posted some time stamps of other examples in the Howdies thread if anyone knows how to do supercuts.Â
Oh, I didnât mean to imply I thought you were being over critical for a second. I thought you had a great suggestion. I was more saying it in context of ongoing grandstanding at Hollywood about casting diversity. On that subject, Hulu has done a great job in some of its new shows, doing Hamilton style version of black actors in period era comedy- dramas like The Great (about Catherine The Great). Iâd say 40% of the actors are black despite it being 18th century Russia and the cast is effing great. I think Paul was overly critical of himself, but it came from, obviously, a good place.
Love Grudianâs science fact. Hilarious! Now, I want to know what science would say about their jumping ability.Â

3 hours ago, DrGuts1003 said:Paul, June, and Jason incorrectly thought that when Chris drove away in the work van and abandoned her co-worker that she simply went home. Â When Billy was talking to her, he says that he has to drop his partner off. Â This is the cop who plays pool by himself at his home. (Clearly he can afford the pool table because he doesnât own a car and needs other people to drive him to and from work).
Chris recognizes the partner, who is sitting in the passenger seat. Â She leaves in the van to tail Billy and see where the partner lives. Â Then later that night she comes back and kills that cop while heâs playing pool.
Yep, that was pretty clear. But theyâve got rug rats running around and Jason had his jigsaw puzzle.Â

V8 should definitely have a product placement deal with The Fast & Furious franchise. Itâs all about family! And whatâs better for a growing family than 2 full servings of vegetables in every can. Vin would make sure the deal specified he canât lose to a can of V8 in a fight.Â
I can totally see it now: In the climatic scene Dom is thrown from his car and comes to rest face down against a wall. His crew run to him and look in stunned dismay at his white cotton beater soaked in blood, but just when all is lost, Dom rolls over and holds up a crushed can of V8 with a mischievous smile and says âI ainât rebuilding this one.â Cut to rooftop gathering. The whole family raise cans of V8 high and in harmony yell, âFamily!â
THE END

1 hour ago, DannytheWall said:Also, the licenses plates for all the cars are clearly from Arizona. It was suprising to me when I noticed it, though. There's something about the movie that makes you just assume "southern California." Hmm.Â
Arizona license plates are crazy distinct (or am I just thinking of New Mexico) and I missed that too. The canyons and mountains in the opening/around the golf course also donât look like anything in LA County (except the course itself). But the area stands in for so many places itâs natural to assume it was shot here. And, the industrial areas and station almost looked liked they were shot on a big lot.Â
ÂAnyone else wonder why the cops were guarding the morgue inside and out like it was a Scarface mansion scene? If they had showed heightened alert or amazement at the golf course events, itâd have made some sense. But as mentioned in the show, they were casual and relaxed just hours after dozens of officers were brutally slain.Â

This episode featured one of the absolute best entries in what I hope will soon become a supercut compilation of Paul's misadventures which I lovingly refer to as "How Did We Get Scheer?" Virgin bloody marys and after school toy gun time?!? Please tell me a two sizes too big smoking jacket was also involved!
Interesting theory about the V-8 juice, but she was so strongly coming onto him that I just thought of it as more of a playful gesture. At the time, I actually thought it was foreshadowing for blood to be spilled for a moment. Â
Paulâs home stories are sooooo crazy, that as hilarious/weird as that is, itâd be like wayyyy down on the list. Another one thatâd also be way down on the list yet still funny that just came to mind for no reason was the signed Arliss Hat. But, yeah man, Paul has the craziest childhood stories and young adult misadventures (how Iâd classify his desk-less, duty-less job where he was ordered to have lunch with Brittany Spears. Iâm assuming Paul stories are a Howdies category. Â
More omissions that just came to mind:Â
-Police Baton: thereâs a moment when a cop spins the baton for a sec at the cemetery fight and has the sound effect of an elaborate nunchucks display. But, more to the point, these cops know this ninja survived point blank shot gun blasts and machine gun fire and theyâre trying to fight âhimâ with a stick?!-Police Response Time @  Golf Course: Since the ninja is still at the golf course and how fast he is, we must assume this small town has been able to deploy roughly 50 cops and a helicopter within 2 minutes. Uh, not possible.Â

Also enjoyed:
*The Quest: Paulâs lack of flexibility (I died laughing over that discussion)
*Action Jackson: Paul talking about how June had it was spiders not ninjas that burst through the windows and then saying it was due to the TV being so far away and Paul says, âwhat are you talking about? Itâs a huge TV at the foot of our bed.Â
Best Business or Film Script Idea
(e.g., Jasonâs restaurant with 10-foot high tables, lifeguard chairs for seats and waiters on stilts (The Quest) or the 80s Aerobic Classes)

Has Best Actor Nickname/Paul Name Gaffe (e.g., Stellar Skateboard or actor/activist Ron âSilvaâ) been done?
BTW, I had a momentary brain fart when I saw Best Abuse of a Guest and thought it was referring to the audience question segment, which in turn reminded me of the Jason of Our Group (Hell Comes to Frog Town ep I believe). That guy was part of a circle of good friends my girlfriend of 12+ years (so, Iâve heard every story she has to tell ad nauseum) growing up and she always told me stories about what a spaz (more specifically, the awkward kid type who compensates by being excessively gross/lewd. When he got up and said his name I thought no way and then groaned when he uttered his famous line.
Anyway, my Stitcher auto play recently played an old minisode I had never heard in which Paul said he ran into him at a restaurant and he flagged him down to excuse his appearance due to his being âshit-faced.â Iâm betting he somehow contrived running into Paul. His family is very wealthy, he doesnât really work (so, has a lot of free time) and a lot of friends in the biz (who might know where Paul eats often).Â

Iâm new to the forum (but have listened since 2014) so my opinion may not count, but I think the ongoing Transformers bit has been funny (better than many of the insipid questions asked) and judging by crowd reactions they do as well. No one is going to love every movie pick (I include myself), but I think itâll be funny to listen to them tearing Bay a new a-hole.Â
PS - Love how Tall John has like officially become Paulâs nickname. That pizza lady must have been bonkers to insist that was the order name.

5 hours ago, Elektra Boogaloo said:I appreciate what was said at the top about BLM and such. I am sure Reddit will hate it. One thing I would like to ask that the podcast do is try to have more people of color as guests. I know the guests are often friends and I get that, but sometimes that kind of insular community stands in the way of introducing new voices.Â
I discount Nicole Byer through this podcast (and Girl Code gifs on Tumblr) and I couldn't be happier to have her in my life.Â
I don't mean never have white people but make a concerted effort for more diversity?Â
I appreciate the sentiment and support the cause as well. Iâve been speaking out on police conduct for 25+ years. In fact, my family and I got one cop fired for misconduct  through a lawsuit (long story). However, one thing I think many people forget is that blacks/African-Americans (not really sure thereâs any consensus on what term is more appropriate) is that they compose only 8% of the population. People always talk about under representation, but Iâd bet much more than 8% of new releases have a black lead or co-lead. The point being is that there are just a lot more white and Latino folks around. Asians, black, etc. are a tiny demo in comparison.
My point really being that what people often tend to think of as a lack of proactive efforts at inclusion are simply down to sheer numbers.Â
I get how some might be listening for a break from this 24/7 situation might not like it, but I feel/hope that, due to the type of person this show attracts, the mass majority will be  and understand they can just fast forward past it if they donât want to hear it.Â
ÂPS - I listened to the Stealth episode with the little Key & Peele guy. Bloodsport is my favorite HDTGM episode and Nicole was hilarious in that. Her guest appearance on The Meg was amazing too. Sheâs been a great regular. Canât wait until the Arclight gets that special âNicole Buyer will be yelling at the screen during this viewingâ feature Jason suggested. Â

3 hours ago, JoaquinSlowly said:The gang keeps referring to the movie as being set/filmed in Culver City, or outside of LA, but it's actually Phoenix. âȘâȘIÂ wasn't sure myself while watching it, but âȘâȘthe credits confirmed it was filmed entirely in Arizona, in Phoenix and area suburbs Glendale and Tempe, and Sedona, likely the scenes on the rocks/temple on the hill.
Crazy, cause I immediately assumed it was Arizona and not LA (where I live). The deserts/brush land around LA do not look like anything seen in the golf course scene  Also, they mentioned Beverly Hills maybe due to the beautiful palm trees, but the houses were all dumps. Clearly not Beverly Hills. Â

Oh, I also wanted to share this video cause before I found it on Amazon Prime for free, I looked on YouTube and caught this scene. I thought this music was from the movie and thought âdamn! this movie has got a killer sound track!âÂ
That song (especially starting at the one minute mark)Â makes the scene so much more compelling to me.Â

Ninja III =  Free on Prime Video (w/subscripton)
4 Glaring Omissions:
1. Billyâs line: âListen, thereâs an officer in the the Asiatic Division. He said thereâs this guy downtown that the local Japanese swear by.â Cause we all know how small, suburban Arizona towns in the 80s had police departments with African, âAsiatic,â Balkan, Indosesian, etc. divisions...I died!
2. The Doctor: âPhysically, youâre great. I see no problem. You are under severe stress, of course.
But otherwise, Dr. Bowen the psychiatrist you saw, said thereâs nothing out of the ordinary. Aside from your exceptional extrasensory perception and your preoccupation with Japanese culture.â
What stress aside from being stalked by Billy?
What exceptional powers of extrasensory perception?
What cultural obsession (a sword she found)?
3. Police Response Time @ Golf Course: Since the ninja is still at the golf course and how fast he is, weï»żÂ must assume this small town has been able to deploy roughlyï»żÂ 5ï»ż0 cops and a helicopter within 2 minutes. Uh, not possiblï»żï»że.Â ï»żï»żï»żï»żï»żï»żï»żï»ż
