Episode 82 — FEED ON MY CONTENT
Quasar Sniffer replied to JulyDiaz's topic in The Fogelnest Files with Jake Fogelnest
I think this episode puts into perspective the point of view of people like Negativland who came into existence when sampling and context-changing of media took actual, you know, work. So of course they were advocates of fair use; cutting tape is hard! A carpenter is no less of an artist because he or she is using wood from a tree someone else grew, ya know? Negativland had to actually touch and cut and edit with their hands, they had to plan out their shenanigans in advance, and if they fucked up, it could destroy a hell of a lot of work. Anyway, as others have said before, I had no idea Negativland existed before this episode, but what is great about this podcast is that I can be just as fascinated by someone I am unfamiliar with as someone I have been a fan of for forever. Thanks to Jake and Peter for the great conversation! -
Now THIS deserves a feature-length adaptation... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afr0xwde0Aw

In honour of "A Night of Hulkamania", I present, "The Lies of Hulkmania".

I wish I could say the same, but inspired by all the professional wrestling I watched as an adolescent, I've spent the intervening years overloading my system with anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs, thus rendering myself totally impotent. Worth it? Obviously. -
So, the premise of the video series is that Wiseau is kidnapped by aliens and forced to watch and review video games? I guess that means there are at least two different species of aliens out there; the kidnapping aliens, and whatever bizarre species of interplanetary being Wiseau himself belongs.

I kind of categorize this movie with Boondock Saints*, in that they are both action movies released around the same time that, despite little to no theatrical release, gained a huge cult following in high school and college-aged males. A remarkable accomplishment, seeing as both are remarkably stupid (or maybe that's part of their appeal?). Many-a college dorm conversation was had pertaining to why these films should not be viewed as good. At least Equilibrium has the decency to have some cool choreography and an attempt at some stylistic flourishes, while Boondock Saints has neither... and has the added bonus of being morally repugnant. *The Boondock Saints is clearly fodder for HDTGM itself. If anyone needs evidence of this, the bizarre documentary on its writer/director Troy Duffy, entitled Overnight, is a chronicle of Hollywood douchery to befuddle anyone. It's not great filmmaking, but it does show Duffy to be an astonishing asshole.

That's five more than the world record! The preempting by the Westminster Dog Show always confused me as a kid. I would be so excited to see Mankind gross out Vince McMahon with a sock or The Rock to discuss what he was cooking.... only to find dogs being walked on AstroTurf. Since I was around 14 at the time, my solution was probably to go to my room and masturbate, which was my solution to everything at that tender age. -
I think this movie could work as a podcast episode since there have been great episodes with films the hosts (and the listeners) have a definite affection for. Road House and the Crank movies are examples. Plus, the plot of Black Dynamite does go off the rails and it tends to drag in the second half (it is hard to come up with a legitimate ending to a parody movie, since you now have to find a way to come up with a climax to top the over-the-top nature of the film itself). I love the balls out of this movie; it's just great fun. Period. I think the best case scenario would be an episode with Michael Jai White, Scott Sanders (the director), and/or Byron Minns (the writer) as guests; that way we could all fawn over this fantastic film and its ridiculousness.

Episode 81 — SLEDGE HAMMER!
Quasar Sniffer replied to JulyDiaz's topic in The Fogelnest Files with Jake Fogelnest
I have to agree with this, at least for the show in this form. For me personally, part of the fun of the Fogelnest Files is the extra effort it takes to watch the videos ahead of time or along with the podcast in order to fully enjoy it. I get to react to the videos along with the guest and the host, but because it's a podcast, it feels much more curated, personal, and funny. -
Episode 81 — SLEDGE HAMMER!
Quasar Sniffer replied to JulyDiaz's topic in The Fogelnest Files with Jake Fogelnest
Good grief, this episode was engrossing and entertaining all the way through. I loved the Mel Brooks and Marty Feldman stories, not to mention the spot-on Andy impression from Alan Spencer. The insights into TV network ineptitude were also great. Jake has this ability to get interesting people to open up and the conversation makes them even more interesting to me than when the podcast began. I get all this FOR FREE. Amazing. -
I wish this movie had MORE logic-defying spectacle. Sure, none of it made sense, but it was about as thrilling as trying to decipher who farted during an intercontinental flight.

I posted this in the HDTGM forums, but I figured it deserved a drop here as well, you alternative comedy-loving darlings. Also, I'm sorry for this, this is a nightmare: -

The 90s WERE weird. Kevin Costner was also a sex symbol. This is coming from a heterosexual dude, but I always found him about as exciting or interesting as white bread. Waterworld, starring soggy

Haha, thanks... though I think, to the upper-class ancient Greeks like the ones in 300, fucking young boys was probably a more wholesome activity than eating cheese. They were pretty gross.

Just One of the Guys (1985)
Quasar Sniffer replied to KuntyAzIWannabe's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
This movie, the already-mentioned Tomboy in this forum, Soul Man, Peggy Sue Got Married, Trading Places, even Parts of Revenge of the Nerds... there were a lot of 80s comedies involving people disguising themselves and taking on opposite gender/racial/social roles in order to commit various misdeeds or to right a personal slight. I just wonder if this was something indicative of the social mores of the time or if I'm just reading too much into it. I know that Amanda Bynes movie where she dressed as a boy exists, but it seems these types of movies were more prevalent in the 1980s. -
There was that weird "joke" in the original 300 about Athenians being "boy lovers," as if Athenians were the only Greek dudes who liked fucking other Greek dudes. It'd be like a person from Wisconsin making fun of a person from Minnesota for having a fondness for eating cheese.

Episode 80 — Extreme Vaping
Quasar Sniffer replied to JulyDiaz's topic in The Fogelnest Files with Jake Fogelnest
Lots of vinyl records, music documentaries played on a loop, and everyone dressed in tuxedos? -
I feel gross just looking at and reading this thread. I guess that means this movie has to be an episode.

Does 'Billy on the Street' have a writer's room? If there is a place where Jake Fogelnest and Julie Klausner sit and write jokes, THAT should be its own show. -

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010)
Quasar Sniffer replied to chunkytehgooch's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
This movie is legitimately great. Like Ryan Sz said, it does a great job of turning the horror genre on its head within an actual horror comedy. And unlike the high-concept take of Cabin in the Woods (which is also good times), it does this with the simple conceit of flipping the typical point of view. Watch it, love it, put an Alan Tudyk poster on your wall. -
Even the official description of this movie contains the phrase "'Scream' meets 'Glee,'" but there also seems to be a healthy dose of 'Sleepaway Camp.' Also, Meat Loaf and Minnie Driver are in it. Need I say more? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7yLVbULWt0 P.S. Do you think that is the "Metal Horns" the killer is attempting to throw up while holding the knife, or is it just coincidence?

Guests I'd Love To Hear of HDTGM

Roddy Piper is another great choice. I've actually had the pleasure of meeting him and he could not have been a nicer, more enthusiastic gentlemen.
