So he's a bit blowhardy, seems like a loyal good friend, and for all of his apparent rich guy-suaveness, also seems like a trooper from the stories he and howard shared (staying at dinky motels and showering with nick swardson). about the name dropping, howard and ku straight up asked him who he's met/not met, give him some slack I really enjoyed the episode, the only weird part is how much he shat on howard's 'comedy degenerate' friends (who are likely a lot more of a fun bunch than a room full of giancarlos as Flatula said) I heard a lot of joy in this episode, really, so if Giancarlo comes back, that is the association I will have

hahahahahaha Kulap was so dead on in calling Howard out on hating Walk the Line, she's almost like an interpreter to the guests at this point

I know it doesn't. Slavery is a bit of a lazy go-to, my intention however was to highlight the simple logical fallacy I see in any statement hinged on a romantic and nebulous view of the past. The same way people say the world has gotten more and more violent as society has evolved, when almost every metric proves the contrary ( Steven Pinker's done great work on this). Laws try to save us from each other, unfortunately they too often try to save us from ourselves. Morality is exercised ad hoc, between an entity and either itself or other entities. I think the purpose of laws is to try and abstract from the immediate in order to influence decisions made in any case without prejudice for the better, for all involved (hopefully.) Anyone even modestly discerning knows that this isn't written in stone, humans will be scoundrels, whether they be lawmaker, lawyer, judge, or criminal. Say what you will about vigilante justice's moral worth, codifying it in law is entirely unlikely, vigilante is the operative word after all. What we're concerned with though is the letter of the laws involving capital punishment. A lot of people might think that the case for abolition is mostly based on people's concern for a true criminal's rights. Whereas I believe it to be a careful consideration based on the fact that we've killed -- and stopped short of killing-- a lot of people who were definitely innocent. Death is final, too final for the state to be allowed license to mete it out. These aren't loose armed men in a mall threatening people, they're in custody, and some of them are very innocent. "Not even for Hitler" goes the old phrase, kind of hard to swallow, but ultimately worth it I think. sorry for the length, it's kind of a fascinating subject
