    Episode 41 — Double Time

I think you guys are being short sighted with your ruling on detect magic. You shouldn't need to be a caster to detect it. Its like detecting a trap. You dont need to a thief to tell if there's a trap, it just helps to be trained in it. If a given character is intelligent enough they could intuit that something was magical, just like if they were cunning enough they would be able to detect a trap or secret passage.

is it just me or is Tasing the naked drunk guy who spit in your face a little much?

    Space Jam (1996)

I tend to agree with this. It was a movie made for kids, it would be like them doing an episode any other Disney movie. I'm sure they could tear it apart, and make fun of it well. But its not exactly a bad movie. It's just a kids movie, it doesn't really require a plausible plot, etc.

    Episode 60 — Street Fighter

For you, the day you did a podcast about Street Fighter: The Movie was the most important day of your life, but for me.... ...it was tuesday. Its quite funny how bad the plot in this movie is. At this point the games have probably have more cohesive storylines than the movie does. Then dont get me started about the various animated movies, they all have immensely better than Street Fighter: The Movie.

Can i be reminded what people's alignments are? Brian should be at least chaotic.

    Episode 115 — Bizarro

Harris missed the chance to make a Type 1/Type 2 Jam reference in reference to those biscotti jokes. As a fellow Phish fan, i am disappoint.
  7. Nick Thune needs a new doctor. really? GIs "Cant find parasites"?? we all have them???? Granted, im sure there is a selection of the population that has some nasty things going on in their guts they just chalk up to poor eating habits(considering the vast majority of parasites are pretty much harmless, they will make you get sick but will usually pass on their own). But "we all have them" is a bit crazy. then correlating that to brain parasites? Talking about a natural doctor "separating a parasite from someones brain on a mucus level"? such utter BS. I feel bad for Thune, he let his skepticism of doctors lead him to get swindled by a shyster. Normally i would come down on someone harder for speaking that out of turn about something medical, but since he's on comedy bang bang i'll let him slide. If he was on a podcast that talked a little more seriously(say, if he had this discussion on WTF or You Made It Weird) i would come down on him hard, but since people are a lot less likely to take real advice from here, its not AS huge an offence.

Episode 12 — Deeper Into The Base

If Brian wanted to do the "metal" thing and kill every innocent they came across, why in the world did he roll a good character?
  9. The story behind the Andy Warhol thing is pretty funny. He was a wrestling fan, and would go to shows regularly at MSG. He happened to wander into the room where Hogan, Lauper and Mr T were cutting promos. Still so odd that they put him on the spot, since it was going live to MTV.

Episode 11 — The Battle Continues

Sark said it himself, they will take the stuff that they like. Although personally i wish they would just pick an edition they like and play that instead. But if the idea is they want to learn 4e , that's probably the best way to do it
  11. FRANK ZAPPA DIDNT DO DRUGS. He was completely clean, no alcohol or anything. The music nerd in me felt the need to shout that somewhere.

Episode 9 — Going In Recons Blazing

It worked for the penny arcade guys playing 4e on a podcast. DnD has always been a mix of strategy and roleplaying so i dont see the grid mechanics and such holding back the game. I always consider the fighting part the dumbest and most boring part of these podcasts. The fun part is character interaction and storytelling. But, i digress. Personally i love the group going "alright guys..we are going to sneak and seal some dudes outfits", smash cut to casting and stabbing people through the back with a broadsword.

    Episode 8 — Analyze Phish Episode 4

EVERYONE AT PHISH SHOWS RUNS AROUND DOSING EACH OTHER. You can avoid drugs at phish shows. Scott's experience is not the average, he could have turned down drugs, he just didn't. Its not like old school Grateful Dead shows in the 70s where people run around with squirt guns full of acid and spray people. I've seen phish 5 times, and 4 of those times i wasnt under the influence of anything more than alcohol. I've never had a stranger 'stick their finger in my mouth', and i've never been unwittingly dosed with some substance that i didn't know what it was. Once again, scott went into this saying HE WANTED to get fucked up. That's why he did a bunch of drugs, its not like a tab of acid comes with the ticket and they watch you drop it at the door. There are no 'crazies' at phish shows who run around doing crazy shit. They wear costumes and maybe act a little weird, but its not like they run around giving people drugs who dont ask for them.

    Episode 8 — Analyze Phish Episode 4

I guess, but drugs are a personal thing, I mean, they said Scott would do drugs as a joke. In fact the whole thing was probably a joke. No one forced Scott to do drugs. Also, i would say the doing drugs at a phish show thing is an overstatement. But you say that like people dont do drugs at other shows.

    Episode 8 — Analyze Phish Episode 4

Really? please do explain. Possibly just my ignorance with Ozzfest, but i would imagine that any show with a mosh pit is instantly more dangerous than a phish show. As someone who has been to numerous phish shows, the most dangerous things you have to worry about are heat exhaustion and being pegged in the back of the head with a glowstick.

    Episode 8 — Analyze Phish Episode 4

Really? how much of this was a put-on? was Kulap REALLY that frightened? its a phish show, he wasn't going to Ozzfest or something. Its not like someone was going to freak out on acid and start stabbing people with a knife he snuck in.

Episode 135 — Scavenge and the Wisemen

There i was, only half paying attention as i went on my nightly walk to the corner store to buy a pack of smokes before they closed. When i heard the words i had subconsciously wanting to hear since earwolf got their new studio. It was like a scene from a movie..as i opened the door to the store and walked to the back to get a vitamin water...the words echoed through my ears "Bakin' a Plain Cake". "no, not here, not now" i thought to myself, "everyone will think i am insane". Time slowed down as i braced myself for the incoming expectoration of laughter that was about to erupt. As that familiar tune started in the background i bit my lip and walked to the counter. The gang erupts into the customary "YEAHHHHHH" as i ask the clerk for my smokes, the singing starts and i cant take it, i erupt into laughter, handing the clerk my money and running out the door in a fit of cackling. Thanks, Earwolf.

    Episode 2 — Analyze Phish Episode 2

Harris is getting better at lobbying for phish, Scott is completely insufferable though. Im not saying he should totally like everything, but he listens to a song and says "oh i like this" until he hears one tiny part and goes "OH FUCK THIS SONG FOR THAT". I also understand that its a comedy show and things needs to be poked at for there to be humor. The problem with the main idea is that some people just dont like phish. If someone is going to get hung up on the 'shitty lyrics' then they probably aren't going to like phish(and you might as well end the show now if getting scott to like phish is actually even the premise.) Scott likes dance music for crying out loud(and yes i know he likes other stuff too, stuff that is lyrically poignant). But look, Phish is dance music, they don't make amazingly profound music. They aren't Bob Dylan, or Neil Young, or any singer/songwriters that make songs that point out the ills of the world. As much as i hate to say it because i like a lot of the lyrics, its just dance music, its shit to boogie down too. There are some songs that are a little more introspective than the most but that's not what it's about. For the most part Scott has said he liked a lot of the music, and that the thing he doesn't like is the singing and the lyrics. You don't criticize Lady Gaga about her ham-fisted sexual metaphors. When someone does, most of her fans just go "well she just makes fun dance music", like that is some mystical shroud that protects her from criticism. I'm invoking that shroud for phish. One thing i dont agree with is people telling harris to 'just play the jams' you cant just throw Scott headlong into the middle of a tweezer, yem, or any balls out blazing jam, because he needs the framework of the rest of the song to place it in. But the idea of just playing one 15 minute song does sound good.

    Episode 1 — Analyze Phish

Phish has lyrics to use them as an instrument. A lot of Phish songs have lyrics that are just plain silly, but the point of them isnt(just) to be funny, but to add another musical element to the song. If you take the "Tipsy fuddled boozy groggy elevated prime did edit her" part out of Fluffhead/Fluff's Travels it would just be boring. IMO, Harris was right to play covers, a lot of phish's mysticism comes from not knowing if they are going to bust out a cover or a really weird tease. Like them busting out "Killing in The Name Of" by RATM last year. Or even when they played "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" at the Hollywood Bowl just a scant few days ago. Or even a YEM vocal jam that sounds very reminiscent of an Aerosmith song, or a vocal jam that straight up turns into "Proud Mary". In addition to my song list from my last post, I say you plunge Scott head-long into weirdness. Vacuum solos, bluegrass songs, A-Capella(for a band who constantly gets ripped for their singing, they do a mean barbershop quartet =P) , and crazy yem freakouts. Play Meatstick for Scott, show him the new years video. Show him Fishman being 'shot out of the cannon' and "Sara from Pittsburgh" coming to fill in for him at NYE 09. Show him them riding the original hot dog. You cant go into the show 'trying to make scott like phish', you just have to show him what makes Phish unique.

    Episode 1 — Analyze Phish

Love this show and Phish. I'm surprised Harris didn't play a YEM vocal jam for Scott...that surely would've flipped Mr Aukerman's lid. List of Songs for the future: Ghost Tube First Tube Run like an Antelope Colonel Forbin's Ascent> Fly Famous Mockingbird It's Ice Ya Mar(Although it is a cover) Mike's Song Character Zero maybe Possum? im pretty sure thats all oh, Piper, gotta play Piper.

Brett Gelman makes me gag. More Harris Please, Scott, forgo the Gelman show, give Harris "Something Smells Phishy" with Harris Wittels. An hour of nothing but Foam(corner) and Foam(Phish song).
