  1. Wow. A hero walks among us.

Excited about Virtuosity! I haven't seen it in a long time but I had a friend who was obsessed with Russell Crowe in that post-Gladiator period. And I was like, "dude this is legit nonsense."

Think this will be a crossover with DENZEL WASHINGTON IS THE GREATEST ACTOR OF ALL TIME PERIOD? They seem to have stopped podcasting though.

i bet its besser or kroll because they have new projects to plug.

  2. Every time you do a piece on music especially hip hop, you come across with this comments that are completely wrong or unfounded. First, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in cleveland because of the Historical Context of Alan Freed being considered the first major DJ to play "rock and Roll". Second, "they only induct white people", is completely off base. The first inducting class in 1986 consisted of 10 different artist: Chuck Berry, James Brown, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Elvis, meaning 4/10 groups/artists inducted, contained white people. Three, the guests are admitting that they know nothing about the culture or the Bands being discussed. Is there any actual research done before you bring up these questions?

They made the R&R Hall of Fame in Cleveland because the white guy played it on the radio, not because the black guys actually played it.

  3. I always figured one of the main reasons Prince doesn't get recognized as a great guitarist is because when white people make lists of the best guitarists of all time, they put Jimi Hendrix at the top and think "OK, we're good," so now they don't have to bother going outside of their regular cultural radar.

Also, the Prince songs played on mainstream radio were/are not guitar-centric, but synth-based, imo.

  4. A little off topic, which sounds funny since I'm about to talk about people relevant to the show, but if you haven't already, you should all listen to the "Anna Faris is Unqualified" episodes with Paul Scheer and Jason. I've been on the fence about checking out her podcast for awhile, but when I saw Paul had done it, I figured this would be a good time to check it out.

Who knew Paul was such a talented impressionist?

Paul F. didn't do impressions professionally until the Comedy Death Ray podcast.

  5. they kept referring to Friday as "tomorrow" on this ep, which my detective skills lead me to believe this was intended to be released as a bonus ep on Thurs. What happened to the original monday ep? Will it go down in history with other lost pieces of art like Springsteen's full band version of Nebraska, or Hemingway's lost WW1 novel?

Patton has an episode in the can but it was shelved until later in the summer because of his wife's death.

  6. I am addicted to this podcast and I'm not sure why bc I've never listened to podcasts before in my life... I think the people that call in are generally entertaining and I want to call in. How do I do this?

follow chris gethard on twitter. call in right after he says hes taking a call and tweets out the phone number.

  7. Is she better than anyone? No...she's a human being like the rest of us. God love her for what she does, and she probably is basically a good person, but that doesn't make her better. Also I keep noticing that when he tells her she's a good person, she never protests or says thank you. Not sure what to make of that.

Sounded like she equates money with happiness and assumes Chris makes more money than her.

  8.

I'll cosign this. You're 100% right. I love the live episodes, but as I've been going through all the episodes, I feel more drawn to the studio episodes--especially ones like Junior and Monkey Shines where there were completely guest-less. Now, I'm not advocating for no live episodes or guests, but it's the studio episodes where I really get the feeling that they enjoy doing just this because they like hanging out together and making each other laugh.

...or maybe they can't stand each other and they are the three greatest actors on the planet.

I have definitely wondered if Paul and Zouks' relationship changed after The League ended.

  9. Ugh, Cameron is one of the hackiest comics around. Her routines are hot shehorned message comedy garbage that appeals to Buzzfeed demographics.Every time she tries to convey a message through one of her far fetched monologues on a VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE it induces pure cringe because, unlike an Aziz Anssari, she fucking bombs at nuance or doing justice to any of her issues. Her delivery is clumsy too/. Stop trying to make her a thing, Paul.

  10. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this episode. I think the whole breaking-the-anonymous move may have set a bad precedent, however. I was a part of Night Time Foam Corner (Julia's group) for awhile before my feed became overrun with their posts causing me to leave. While I don't doubt the authenticity of her appearance here, I do know that she is already fairly deep into the earwolf/podcasting world. She has worked closely with some big names and is only a degree of separation from Gethard (I would say it is very possible they've even been in the same room at some point).

What worries me is that this podcast will turn into a source of unsolicited auditions/plugs for prospective comics and podcasters. Since callers have to be close followers of Gethard (and, in turn, comedy), there is a good chance many of them are trying to break into the industry. Had she remained anonymous, I would have walked away thinking this was an incredible interview. But the fact that this became a plug made me wonder if there was an agenda to her calling. Gethard invited it, but she seemed to enjoy dropping hints and was all to eager to out herself. No criticism intended towards Julia. Showbiz is ruthless and why not get your name out there anyway you can?

Had I not known it was Julia, I'd have walked away with an entirely different impression of this episode. But attaching a name to her story (and especially a name I am familiar with) took a lot away from it. It seems like Gethard has a bunch of episodes in the can at this point, but if/when he opens the phone lines again, I would not be surprised to see people exploiting the opportunity to be on an Earwolf podcast with him. Though, I would like to hear Stephen Rannazzisi call in and regale us with his 9-11 stories.

    Ultimately, don't listen to me.

To be fair, the callers are self-selecting.
