    Episode 144 - Stealth

So, I think that is a generous reading of what happened to Jamie Foxx's character in this movie. He was killed because there was not going to be a black person living at the end of this movie in a speaking role (Joe Morton pops in, pops out, and then never seen again). This is something that happens to black characters alot in movies -- just at some point the movie decides that we are coming down to the final stretch and there is not to be any black people for the last act. I say this because Lucas sends Jamie Foxx after EDI. This is after they have established that Lucas is the hot shot best of the best fighter pilots earlier. If that is the case, then why not go yourself, Lucas? No, he sends the black guy to be killed. This is just like when they sent Sam Jackson to the raptors in Jurassic Park. HE'S A GODDAMNED COMPUTER PROGRAMMER, NOT A FUCKING DINOSAUR HUNTER/FIGHTER!!! That one gets me really mad because I'm a programmer. I have the body of a heavy reader, not a outdoorsman. You send me out into dangerous territory with dinosaurs, I'm going to say, "Fuck you, buddy! I need to be here to run the startup script." So, this is what Stealth did to Foxx; he was the expendable red shirt. It has to be noted that this movie was made after Foxx's role in "Ray". A role that he won an Oscar for. So, the Oscar winning actor doesn't get to live to the end. Hell, they filmed new scenes for GI Joe after Channing Tatum released Magic Mike and his ass didn't win any awards. And the icing on the cake, they don't even react strongly to Foxx being killed. It's like, "oh well, so what about plan B?" Jamie Foxx's movie life and death did not matter in this film at all.
  2. Yes!!!!! Damien Lemon is the funniest dude to come out of that Guy Code show. Definitely going to listen to his podcast as well. Also, 2Guns sucks as a movie -- Marky Mark is trying to be funny and Denzel is the straightman, but it doesn't work. If you have Marky Mark carrying the comedy of your movie, you've already lost the battle.
  3. That guy who called himself the "Jason" of the group was more like the Andre of the group.
  4. I personally think they should just scrap the podcast all together and only release commentaries or companion breakdowns of the selected movies. That way, it will be easier to schedule, it will be longer, and they can have more people over. Release on the Howl as a per ep download. I'll pay 1.99 to hear them really get into a movie as a commentary.
  5. Yeah, she didn't look at the movie. She had more to say on the Tourist ep awhile back. If its one thing she doesn't lack, its opinions.
  6. Just heard the part where Jason imitated Pete Holmes' laugh. So good!
  7. Man, this guy got all of this money to make a bad movie off a script that he wrote in a week and didn't even really follow...yet projects that have a majority non-white cast get cast aside regularly? And I get the feeling that Natasha didn't look at this one little bit. She had much more to say in The Tourist ep. In this one, she just laughed at jokes. She might as well have been in the audience.
  8. The "intelligent serial killer" trope is more an indictment of the law enforcement, in my opinion. Dahmer got away with his crimes because he was a white man who was killing non-white gay men in Wisconsin. The police treat white males different than other groups of people and extend to them a wide benefit of the doubt -- no matter their class or status. One of Dahmer's victims actually escaped and ran to police, naked and bloody, but was rebuffed after Dahmer talked to them. The victim was 14 at the time and one of the cops who took that report has been promoted in the Milwaukee PD. Remember that the next time you go to that city. Their police believe an example of good police work is letting an underage, naked boy be given back to someone who is not their family to be ultimately killed.
  9. I like this woman! For the longest time, I thought it was Theresa Randle in the Inside Man. And I found out she has a youtube show, so now I have a new subscription.

Episode 134 - Can't Stop the Music: LIVE!

I have read most of this thread and it just goes to show you that all of the people who enjoy the same things as you, does not mean that they think like you or share your beliefs. The person who is laughing at Zouks' character could just as easily be a Drumpf supporter as a Bernie fan.

Episode 134 - Can't Stop the Music: LIVE!

That doesn't happen. Ever. What does happen is this: - Creator makes something that caters to one specific group - Fans of said thing that don't fit into that specific group say, "hey we exist too. can you include us in something you make?" From here it splits either two ways: 1) The Creator starts to make things with a broader reach and the original group who is not being catered to anymore gets angry or 2) The Creator says any suggestions of changes are anti-freedom, anti-liberty, and compares the people who made the suggestion to horrible dictators from history, which gets those fans pretty pissed off.
  12. The type of people who use the term SJW are right wing reactionaries. They are the new vanguard of the same old school prejudiced beliefs that were in the 1950s, and the 1920, and the 1840s. These are people who say that other races and women "whine" about being denied opportunities but won't shut the hell up when a white guy doesn't get a position anywhere because obviously the white guy is the most qualified in any and all circumstances. It is wrong categorizing this as a "class" issue because the common denomination is not socioeconomic class, it is race. Also, race and class are very entwined in America. Any and all Africans in the country were of the lowest class -- slaves. After getting freed, Africans were still in danger of being kidnapped and taken back into slavery. You know the story of Solomon Northup because he was born free and learned to read and write. There were 100,000s of Solomon Northups that happened. Because slavery was a race-based system, the class system is also race-based. The socialist New Deal was passed in this country specifically because it excluded black people. Drug laws were made because the political machine wanted to punish black people for the Civil Right Movement. Alot of this country's laws were made by excluding black folks and putting up barriers so that black people were by and large kept lower class. Even if you are one of the black folks that do make it, you still will be considered lower class. Chris Rock still gets hassled by the police. He did a video with Jerry Seinfeld -- the "Comedians in Cars" series -- and Seinfeld was speeding in a car. They got pulled over, and the officer made a beeline to Chris Rock sitting in the passenger seat. He is a multi-millionaire and still gets as much deference from the government as a unemployed brother on the corner. Dave Chappelle has a excellent story when he goes into agent's offices and they expect them to speak a certain way and he blows their mind. His parents are college professors but that doesn't matter because he doesn't have even though they are black and therefore don't have the same access as their white counterparts.

Oh, I loved Nicole Byer since I saw her on Girl Code on MTV2. She is so damned funny.

    Episode 132 - Bloodsport: LIVE!

Man, those Bartles and James commercials were EVERYWHERE in the 80s. Those two old men that did them were like cultural icons back in the day.

    Episode 132 - Bloodsport: LIVE!

But if they did Bloodsport, then they can do Timecop. Like Bloodsport is one of his best movies ever but it still resulted in a great episode. We Hate Movies podcast did Timecop for one of their eps, and likewise, it is one of their best eps.

Damn, this is the best movie Bolo Yeung was ever in! He was sooo good as the villain in this.

    Episode 132 - Bloodsport: LIVE!

I second this recommendation. This is the first movie I have ever seen where the main henchman was a lesbian and JCVD whups her ass for raping the love interest. Blew my mind when I saw this as a child. The second movie that is peak JCVD is Timecop. It is the high nadir of JCVD movies. Random sex. Splits. JCVD inexplicably playing an American. Good fights. And Ron Silver as the bad guy. So good.
  19. I'm so tired of people having nostalgia for these by-gone times where there was "artistic merit". Its all bullshit. The Who, The Beatles, and Led Zepplin were not struggling bands. They were the biggest pop acts of their time, and in the case of Led Zepplin, just outright musical thieves. They were not counter culture at all; they were the mainstream of the recording industry. Also, this idea of musicians not being able to live off of their art is very bourgeois idea. The only people who are able to make "art" and not be paid are the idle rich and those who they choose to patron. The world has missed out on a lot of art because is generated by commission. It is actually more democratic and open to more voices, that individuals have to pay the artist themselves. This way, everybody gets the opportunity to share their art and the opportunity to sustain themselves by art alone.

    EPISODE 125 - Steel: LIVE!

I would like to co-sign this. This is also the reason why Geordi from Star Trek was never even hinted at being in a romantic relationship and why in Beverly Hills Cop, Eddie Murphy never kisses the white woman who was mutual friends with the guy that was killed; instead, they make Judd Reinhold the "romantic" partner, and its fucking weird.
  21. LOL, the funny thing is that Besser never said Arkansas isn't racist (surprise, it is), he's just mad that it was pinpointed in the program. And to someone like Besser and his fans, being called racist is WAY more important than actually having racist shit happen to you. Such is life.
  22. That's right. Lennon is also one of the loves. So, its a St. Clair rectangle!
  23. ooooh, the two loves of St. Clair in the same room!!!! I can't wait to listen to this

    EPISODE 124 - Hackers

Oh man, I love that they did this crazy movie. I'll say just three things. 1) The casting for this movie is all of, save for Matthew Lillard. For the most part, hackers do not look like the lead or like Angelina Jolie at all. They look like Wayne Knight from Jurassic Park. I would say that character from Jurassic Park is the most realistic portrayal of a hacker -- a guy who looks like he his dumped upon that has a specialized knowledge that he will use to fuck you over with. 2) The "hacking" that is going on this movie is silly as shit and makes no fucking sense at all. Mr. Robot, another story about hackers, is very popular and I think a part of that reason is because it has a semi-realistic portrayal of hacking. It's using Linux command line. It's using pen-testing tools or pen-testing OS like Kali/Backtrace. It's very boring and uncinematic. Movies have a language and they have yet to accurately capture this action in a way that is visually compelling. Mr. Robot comes close, but they don't really focus on the act itself and instead focus on the aftermath of getting the information or the aftermath of being denied the information. 3) Hacking does change your mind. As a programmer, I sit in front of the computer for long stretches writing code and the visualization of what is going on in Johnny Lee Miller's head is spot on. I, for one, see fast cuts of old TV shows like Sanford and Son, Martin, and In Living Color. You haven't lived until you see a "Fire Marshal Bill" sketch with an anonymous function pasted over all over Carey's face.
  25. Oh, shit! I just got to the part where she was talking about snacks. This is great.
