I was really struck by Rob's positive attitude. For so many years it seemed like every time he appeared on television or in print, he was angry and defensive. I'm thinking specifically about his uncomfortable appearance on MTV's "25 Lame" in 1999, in which the comedians (Jon Stewart, Leary, Garofalo, Kattan) seemed a little shaken by him.

Ah, perhaps I was being murky. I was meaning to make the very point as you with that performance--"greatest effect" was a statement towards the overall success of the role rather than the amount of offensiveness.

One of the strangest and most incongruous fits of casting for me is always John Wayne as Genghis Khan in The Conqueror. And even Peter Sellers seemed to use the role of a stereotypical Chinese man as a go-to in his comedy, with probably the greatest effect in Murder By Death.

Cage's performances at least inspire interest in their level of insanity, whereas Heigl is so monumentally uninteresting that the power and magnitude of her blandness doesn't even crush the apathy.
