Had to make sure I used a pic with Paul's mouth open since, aside from the pic that Shannon posted with the alpaca, I've never seen that cro-magnon Lautner without his mouth agape.

AV Club Article on Comedy Podcasting Overload

Jeff, ljjk, Is there a specific episode of Wolf Den that you remember that goes over podcast monetization - or is it just a recurring theme? You're going to force me to go on a Wolf Den marathon this weekend aren't you? sigh.

AV Club Article on Comedy Podcasting Overload

I've ridden the incestuous comedy podcast wave - it's what body-surfed me here today and I'm thankful for it. WTF -> Nerdist -> Doug Loves Movies -> Pod F Tompkast -> Who Charted? -> Earwolf en-total Like many "booms" there will be podcasts that wil fall to the wayside - either by comedians that can't find the time to do a weekly podcast, no longer enjoy doing it, or can't find an audience. Nature of the beast. Also, some of these podcasts are monthly - ones like Superego are 30 minutes a month, Tompkast 1 hour. Not hard to find time for these. Funding will be the hurdle - as there are only so many Stamps.com or Pro-Flowers buyers out there, and while I can listen to 20 different podcasts a week, I certainly won't be able to pay for every one of them if they slide into the pay-only world. (I am not adverse to ads in the middle of podcasts - I understand the need if I am getting it free) Podcasts that I think are OK and I listen to for the hell of it won't make the pay cut. And currently I do donate to podcasts that I spend a lot of time listening to. I have no problem to pay for what I use. I don't agree with the "audiences won't go see live shows" comment in this article. In March I have tickets to see Nerdist live in Philly and Maron in NJ in April. Paul F Thompkins is a newer obsession of mine and I can't wait until his tour. Getting the never before available access to these comedians have only fueled the desire. These podcasts have done one thing for me - introduced me to comedians that I would probably have not found without them. Ask me two years ago if I though I would be listening to improv and sketch comedy on my iPod and I would have said no. But now Comedy Bang Bang, Superego, Dead Authors, improv4humans... damn the list goes on. I feel happier with them, glad to know they are there, and heartbroken if I lose them. There will be casulties - but with the advent of Sticher and other streaming services more readily available built into cars now, commutes can be filled with more comedy - there may be less than we think. (I don't think I made any profound statements here, but I couldn't be happier with the variety of entertainment available for us today, and can only imagine what it would be like for my 16-17 year-old self to have this instead of some of the tired garbage I had access to.)
