Those caps are awfully aggressive, dogg. Like, chill out, broheim. I don't like that shows I donated money to with the idea that they'd stay free and accessible to all are now behind a paywall. No issues with them making money, no issues with them charging money for their product. But there are better ways than making your archives inaccessible.

Well how about the things that were behind paywalls that they brought out for free, like getting Jimmy Pardo and Never Not Funny to bring their stuff out from behind the paywall for us? It's not a one way street here. CAPS

I never said they had to change anything to suit my needs. That's you putting words in my mouth, which is a thing a jackass does. But that's nice you spent even more money to listen to shows that solicited donations to keep shows free.

No idea what Paul owns. I just listen to podcasts.

I was talking about the original poster, not you. But again man, why so fucking aggressive for no reason? Yeah, they solicited donations to keep shows free...they didn't get enough donations to keep shows free. That was the entire implication of all that. 'Help us keep the shows free by donating...' if we they didn't get enough donations, then the shows wouldn't be free anymore. They didn't get enough but the new shows, and 6 months of shows ARE STILL FREE. And the original shows were free for YEARS.

Not everyone can afford a smartphone, jackass. Who's entitled here again? Putting archives behind a paywall and giving a portion of your audience no way to even pay to download them is stupid.

Listen to the opening of the latest HDTGM. Paul, Jason, and June didn't agree with the decision to paywall the old eps, and were never told when it was going to happen. They were as surprised about it as we were when the switch got flipped last week.

Accuse people of being cheap all you want, it doesn't change the fact that Howl has handled this shit very poorly. The tragedy is that this wasn't necessary. They didn't need to take the archives away to make Howl worth paying for--the premium shows are so good they're more than worth the price of admission. I think the paywall hurts more than it helps.

Is it really necessary to call me a jackass? And actually, I bought a smartphone for $20 that I don't use for phone service. I just use it to connect to my wi-fi at home and download stuff on the Howl app or my iTunes. I'm just saying, telling a company over and over again that they have to change what they are doing in terms of pay, technology and everything else to suit your needs is a little entitled.

In terms of Paul's comments, isn't Paul part owner of this? I was under the impression that he actually bought into Earwolf/Howl last year?

I'm asking for things to be done the way they've always been done here. It is pretty much asking for nothing.

Do you really believe that's what you're asking for? "Don't change anything. Keep giving me free content that costs you thousands and thousands of dollars. Also, don't advance your technology at all because I only want to have it on my mp3 player." At some point you have to shit or get off the toilet dude.

  5. Podcasts are not a right, get over it. If you don't want to pay then don't.

Suggesting people STEAL them instead of pay is crappy. People literally WORK to bring us this entertainment and you are in a friggin tizzy they want to maybe MAKE money? Tell me how many hours you work for totally free? We get 24 free eps PER POD available at any given time.

I will tell you how much I give away for free at my job.....ZIP ZILCH ZERO.

Earwolf has been my #1 source of comedy for over 5 years and I don't want podcasts to be a fad that dies out because they are not profitable.

Not that anyone cares what I think but I have imposed it on you because Earwolf has graciously offered me that platform FREE OF CHARGE.

    Could not agree more.

  6. I agree that most podcasts are meant to be free. NPR doesn't charge, neither does loudspeakers or just about any other podcasting network. It's something I've side-eyed earwolf about for a long time. They will monetize literally everything and while I'm not against it, I also hate the idea it's normal.

And the thing Fister Roboto said about advertising is correct, it's one of the reasons the promo codes are constantly changing.

NPR podcasts hosts are paid by NPR.

  7. Actually super surprised Big Chunky Bubbles didn't make the cut. I've listened to that episode so many times now and it still gets me.

I think Big Chunky Bubbles was the break out star of 2016. The live ep where he read the letter from the theater critic is one of the funniest things in the history of the show.

  8. I was waiting for the PFT passive-aggressiveness when Tommy Middle D would be #1 instead of him. Can't beat our golden boy! I do appreciate all Paul does for the show but Thomas is a treat I and many others are always chomping at the bit for. Paul's funny in a sarcastic, analytical breakdown of Scottisms and premises kind of way and Thomas is just pure ecstatic comedic whackiness. We need an ep. with both of them so it can be #1 next year!

    You're Thomas Middlepitch aren't you?

Not that crazy. Remember the episode was also a Garry Marshall appearance.

Did hearing about Scott being an actual performer who auditions for things make anyone else doubletake? No insult meant, I just never really think of him in that context. And also, I'm still not completely sure he wasn't joking.

You really put me in my place.

  10. Before anyone asks, this episode was recorded on December 10, three days before Alan Thicke died, which explains why it was not remarked upon.

Also, the Christmas surprise is amazing beyond all comprehension.

How about the crazy discussion that occurred right after that segment? About death, Harris and how people have been 'on the show' and then passed? I'm not a 'higher power' guy, but man...to have had that talk right after an Alan Thicke bit is just so crazy.

  11. Poor Gilly. Did she get either of her potential husbands before they passed? Part of me really wants them to do an episode about the incredible coincidence of all of this and another part of me wants to cry myself to sleep at night until this entire year is forgotten.

  12. You should get a little more bent out of shape over a benign internet forum comment. Happy holidays!

Wait. You come here to complain about two performers you don't like, but people responding to it are the ones getting bent out of shape? Again, weird way to go through life.

  13. I went back and listened to this particular episode again, and nothing. These guys are nowhere near the caliber of Andy Daly, John Daly, PFT, Nick Kroll, etc. The only thing I like about Schwartz shows is how excited Scott gets and how he really cuts loose. And maybe I'm not a fan of Horatio, because I didn't like him on SNL.

Otherwise, largely forgettable for me, though I can see why some might like them.

If you can see why some people like them, why do you hope they go away? Just because that way you won't have to just skip something you don't like? What a weird way to go through life.
