  1. I don't know why you guys want to shame us for having a reasoned debate on the forum. That's kind of why it's here. And Steve Yates didn't seem to mind. He provided several vigorous rebuttals.

Two things… First, your point about how people need refrain from getting snippy over something they didn't pay for: The problem with that is that it gives license to people who do pay to have a say in what your creation ought to be. If you want to treat your work like merchandise I guess that's fine, but I doubt you do because that's hacky. I'm a digital collections librarian and all of the work I do is given to the public for free. Now, that certainly doesn't make me exempt from having to listen to what the public has to say about it. Just the opposite actually: since we can't gauge our success with sales, we collect a lot of public feedback to figure our whether or not we're getting things right. Also, I think you might be seeing things incorreclty; that episode generated 40 comments worth of discussion, on just the Earwolf forum. That's good, right?

    Β

The other thing: I find your observation about the audience eavesdropping on your conversation really fascinating and I think it says a lot about what the podcast does for listeners. I listen to NPR stories and public lectures on youtube to get informed about the world. I listen to stuff like Improv4Humans and Comedy Bang Bang! to observe really well-trained performers apply their art. Podcasts like Professor Blastoff are sort of this different genre where you hear friends getting together and being amusing with each other and sharing human warmth. I always feel kind of creepy listening to that sort of thing as a third party. It's like I listen to it to simulate human contact for myself while I'm at work and don't get to have it at that moment. So I feel ashamed about eavesdropping. I'm sorry. I'll stop doing it.

Bye. Unsubscribing takes less than a second. Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya. And by the way, did it ever occur to you that maybe David was not referring to the earwolf forums? Did you not see the comments on ProfessorBlastoff.com?

    Β

Anyway, about Tig's mention of The Moth..does this mean we should expect to hear her on The Moth in the near future?

  2. It's rude and inconsiderate to invite a guest to take time out of his (or her) day to come to your studio, ask them questions, and do nothing but talk over their answers. I suppose that's the joke, but are you not competent enough interviewers\comedians to wait and make jokes between, and informed by, the guest's replies? You might as well play a recording of a science lecture in the background and yell "swamp rock" over it. At least you wouldn't come off as assholes.

    Β

The podcast would be better served by losing the guests and just having Kyle and Tig pile onto whatever nonsense David espouses.

    Β

I'm Sorry, they weren't expecting the shipment until Tuesdee.

  3. Nah, you're not going to get the argument you seem to want to foster. Everyone offered a reasoned explanation for their issue with this episode, and no one insulted the hosts or the guest. Take the time and patience to really understand and empathize with people you think you disagree with; it lets you save your vitriol and anger for causes that are truly unjust. Peace~

    Β

I merely expressed how I don't like reading the negative comments-yet I am the angry one and "wanting an argument". Weird. Whatever you say, guy. Or girl.

  4. I don't think anyone is expecting these guys to be their professors or for them to teach us about topics with 100% factual accuracy. But that doesn't mean we should only ever comment on how funny the show is and never on on the topics being discussed. They are clearly interested in this stuff as are we, so why can't we discuss it and point out when they get stuff wrong? As long as everyone is being cordial I see no problem with it. The hosts can learn things from the listeners just as we can learn things from the expert guests they have on the show, and learning is always a good thing.

    Β

Nobody said everyone should only ever comment on how funny the show is. Some topics on this podcast are not always meant to be "funny". The point is, it's tiring seeing these comments about how "wrong" this person or that person is. What makes anybody any MORE right than anybody? As if these people saying "you're wrong" know EVERYTHING. Why would I purposely register for an acct JUST to say how wrong somebody is and complain about a free show? Why don't the "right" people create a podcast with all the "right facts" and we can all tune in. There's a difference between being cordial and putting the show and/or hosts down.

  5. It's a free podcast categorized under "COMEDY". Not Science. The podcast was never meant to be all about science. I'm sorry-but comments like these exhaust me. The hosts are not your Professors. It is not their job to "TEACH" anybody anything. They don't even have to go in every week and record episodes. They are 3 comedians kicking back and discussing topics that interest them. They never said they were experts at anything they talk about.

    For Christ's sake.

  6. Go easy on Tig's sweet, sweet, baby Aaron. ;) David has to know he has a bit of a cadence too. He has "handsome face" and his gentleman laugh is the best. He seems to sell himself short sometimes. David you're a wonderful man and I won't stand for this self-deprecation. Also, the whole thing about Tig not picking up on whether people are into her or not--I don't buy it. Ha

    Β

Teenage Kyle should have taken PUA advice from David DeAngelo.......on second thought, judging from this clip--I think MOTHER'S advice would have been more beneficial. lol

  7. I sure wish Earwolf would post as much Professor Blastoff related posts as they do all the other podcasts. You rarely see photos from Professor Blastoff or anything, Yet tons from Who Charted or CBB..sure, they're all great. I'm not knocking them. Just would like to see a bit more of the guys from PB every now and then. It would be nice is all I'm saying.
