Guys, what if this whole PODCAST has been Jason's "Jacob's Ladder" scenario?!

I think Jason nailed why I can't stand so many musicals, but can at least respect the more esteemed ones for what they do and how they do it. When the story comes to a screeching halt because five minutes have gone by without a tune and they feel the need to fart out a song that serves no purpose, like it describes what JUST happened or it's about something completely irrelevant, it just makes the genre look bad to someone that doesn't know better. It's like song porn, or a bad slasher movie that's trying to emulate the one that DID transcend the genre that took the wrong thing away from it and tried to build another thing around it. I'm pretty sure that Anna's cake lines are from "Cobra". How dare you not remember...

To anyone that follows wrestling, the "Broken" Matt Hardy character IS Nicolas Cage in this movie, right?

I have the Marvel Unlimited digital service, which is like Netflix for Marvel comics (TOTALLY worth it and awesome on a tablet), and I've been re-visiting a lot of early 90s stuff. Some of it was stuff I was into that's totally unreadable now because of the part where you have to read 17 different issues spread acrossed 5 different series and creative teams, and some of it I was NEVER into, because they'd have shit like the first issue of a series being part 7 of one crossover, and then the second issue being part 5 of ANOTHER one. It's interesting to look at though.

I think at the beginning of at least the first issue of every series, it said something like "takes place after..." or "takes place in between..." the other books, so even they knew that it should have just been a series of mini series and not four mini series running all at once that were really just four acts of the SAME story that I think may have even ended in a separate special. That really turned me off of even wanting to bother with the next event.

Oh wow, I'd forgotten about those, and while the story was okay, I picked up the individual issues when they came out, and it ended up being the most poorly executed crossover I've seen in a long time. If you read the trades, everything is in order, but when it came out in comic form, it was issue #1 of each series, #2 of each series, and so on, which made me think "Okay, so it's a weekly series running through four titles", like the Spider-Man or Superman books when there were four monthly books, but that was not the case. Instead, part 1 came out, part 5, part 9, part 13, and then part 2, part 6, part 10, part 14, and so on. Aside from the "Aliens" series, which was more of a prequel to the rest, you COULD NOT read the "Prometheus", "Predator", and "AvP" books in the order they came out. It didn't pull apart and make sense in a weird way like if Alan Moore had engineered it or something, it was just flat out unreadable since each series was a different act of the same story.

I think the original packaging was also see-through so that it looked like the tape was in his head. Holy shit, did this movie ever miss the mark on what "futuristic" would be... Edit: Oh wow, I already mentioned all this in an earlier post. Well, the fact that that's what I remember most about the thing really says a lot about how memorable the movie itself wasn't.

The "Girl on the Train" mini review made me wonder, does anyone really think it's really that good of an idea to read a book before seeing the movie? I mean, it's one thing if it happens to be something you've already read, if the movie is still wayyyyyyyy off from coming out or being made, or if it's the kind of story that isn't going to be ruined by already being privy to every twist and turn, but if there's like a movie coming out in two weeks and you decide you're going to read the book in that time, aren't you just looking for reasons to not like it? Do you WANT the movie to be just like the book? Where's the fun in that? In my own experience, I think there have been times where it has prevented me from seeing a movie as JUST a movie that succeeds or fails on its own merits, so if a book sounds interesting to me, but I hear that a movie will be made with actors and filmmakers that I enjoy, I'll just hold off and maybe read it afterwards.

As much as I like the Alien and Predator flicks, I could never get into any of the comics really, because when the two main draws are monsters that can't talk, you have to rely on the human characters to move the stories along, and it's usually just the same old uninteresting shit.

Well, I didn't know about the autism thing before, but they pretty much get into it immediately in the movie. Even if he WASN'T a super assassin, it would still be an interesting drama about someone coping with something like that, kind of like how we saw more of Affleck's Matt Murdock in Daredevil!

If the Punisher was autistic and had a day job, he'd be the Accountant, which is ironic, because the film co-stars the Punisher (Bernthal), who has now fought both Daredevils onscreen! Anyway, I liked the movie a lot.

As someone that's familiar with it, do you appreciate the attempt at authenticity, or is it more like listening to nails on a chalkboard when you hear the words spoken by people that have never said them in their lives? Someone mentioned "The Covenant", which reminded me that that movie is full of people butchering the names of places in the surrounding area, which you would never do if you were actually FROM there.

They mention it sounding like Kevin Smith did a punch-up, but I also sense a bit of Star Wars-ian "This doesn't even sound like a real word ever muttered by humans" in there, which isn't TOO surprising with the Kasdan connection.

The setup for the movie sounds exactly like another terrible Thomas Jane "bunch of shitty bros with a shared secret past get together in a vacation home or something to be terrible" movie called "I Melt With You", which had fewer ass monsters, but more people ready to kill themselves.

I was going to joke that the job of the military advisor on "Stealth" was to go "Fine. Fuck it. Do whatever you want then..." halfway through the making of "Stealth", but I guess that sort of IS what they do.

This was riiiiiiight before Marvel went into their bankruptcy, as the people running the company at the time were making all sorts of ill-advised purchases and partnerships, including this deal with Paramount, which I think MAY have resulted in a total of two comics that tied into their properties. There was this one, and then a Mission: Impossible one-shot the same year, which I only remember for some shitty Liefeld story. (EDIT: Holy shit, I completely forgot about the line of Star Trek comics they also did, including some crossovers with the X-Men. Anywho...). Years later though, it would be Paramount that distributed the first wave of MCU movies, so the relationship EVENTUALLY paid off.

I couldn't tell between the trailers and different marketing materials who this thing was supposed to be for, and sure enough, in the week or two that we had it at my theater, we sold only a handful of tickets. It's amazing when something casts such a wide net and manages to catch nothing. As mentioned, this thing was pulled pretty quickly, because the distributor probably couldn't afford to even keep it in theaters.

I'd like to think that she just had NO clue and that it was just some skeezy dude trying to get with a teenage girl, and that everyone but her knew it. "I could have been a model! I hate you all!" "Honey, like your dad and I keep telling you, that was just the creepy janitor at your school."

Has anyone else seen "All Superheroes Must Die"? He was in that, and that thing was fucking garbage. It's from most of the people that brought us "The FP", a movie where colorful street gangs settled their beefs with high stakes games of DDR, which was pretty enjoyable.

I'm curious to know who else was considered for the Enchantress role, because it seems so strange that they cast someone that was about 22 to be a DOCTOR. She looks like a kid playing dress-up in the scenes where she's around the government types, and I don't think she ever says anything more in her non-Enchantress scenes than "No! Not again! Please don't make me do that again...".

So, everyone the Squad kills is pretty much innocent, right? They're the other army guys and people of the city that were captured and turned against their will, weren't they?

The first thing I remember seeing Catherine Zeta Jones in was "Mask of Zorro", and I remember being SO disappointed to find out that she wasn't actually Hispanic.
