    Extreme Ops (2002)

He's been living the X-TREME dream. *shredding guitar sound* So, how has there not been a DVD release of that that has nothing but a giant picture of his face (from season 4 or so of Parks & Rec) on the cover?

Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987)

Usually, when you wait that long between installments, it means the franchise is going to space.

Episode 161 - The Fate of the Furious

That's a flashback there. His dead girlfriend came back a few years later as an alternate universe GL where I think maybe HE had been killed? I can't remember. The Kyle Rayner Green Lantern was really, really good though. As someone that didn't know anything about the DCU, you learned right along with him as he was running into guys that had a grudge with Hal Jordan, who had gone crazy when his entire hometown was murdered.

Episode 161 - The Fate of the Furious

IDEA! Paul Thomas Anderson directs Fast 9, puts Joaquin Phoenix in it as...something, and it's 11 hours long!

Episode 161 - The Fate of the Furious

Eh, something like that. Anyway, I remember either the writer or the artist talking about this scene and how they were told that the door had to be somewhat closed, they couldn't show ALL of the body, but by censoring it, the reader was left thinking that it was EVEN worse than what they were seeing. Sure, it sucks anyway, dead girlfriend stuffed in the fridge, but it would have been a relief (?) to know that she was ONLY dead and not hacked into pieces or something.

    Jurassic World (2015)

I'm trying to remember what podcast I was listening to recently, but they mentioned "Mad Men" and how the creator of the show had said that he'd wanted to weave the products into the storylines in such a way that you couldn't tell which ones they were actually being paid to use. One of the hosts then mentioned a subplot that involved a Jaguar exec signing with the agency only if Joan would sleep with him and how in another episode, one of the characters tried to kill himself IN his Jaguar, which made him come to the conclusion that Jaguar was probably one of the companies that was NOT paying to be on the show.

Episode 161 - The Fate of the Furious

It's only a matter of time before it ends up in a DC Comics movie, right?

Episode 161 - The Fate of the Furious

I'm amazed, after all the other dream casting that went on, that they just let this one go, because with all of the people that come out of the woodwork or back from the dead in these movies, why wouldn't Rock's baby mama be ANOTHER heavy hitter? Maybe it could be a Sandra Bullock or a Julia Roberts? Reese Witherspoon? AMY ADAMS! I want Amy Adams in a Fast and/or Furious movie!

The Fate of the Furious (2017)

Does the scene in "Hackers" count where Johnny Lee Miller and Angelina Jolie are fighting for control of the tape-changing robot at the local TV station? It may be the most hilariously petty hacker fight of all time.

Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987)

It wasn't long after this, maybe a couple of years, when I had my first "But __________ is in this, how did it NOT play in theaters?" moment. I believe it was "Future Sport", featuring Wesley Snipes.

Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987)

I'd like to use this forum to apologize to my parents, who will never read this, for making them take me to every "Police Academy" sequel from 3 (which wasn't terrrrrrible) and up. Even at 16, when I saw the trailer for "Mission to Moscow" on my rented VHS copy of "Natural Born Killers", I thought "I'm going to need to see this", and I was wrong. I don't think that actually ended up playing anywhere and was one of the first sequels to a theatrical series that I remember seeing that went straight to video.

    Episode 160.5 - Minisode 160.5

Again, from having managed for a million zillion years, I've seen where the bad behavior starts, and it's often from people that do go to the slow weekday shows with their kids where they DON'T try to keep the kid in check or use that opportunity to teach their kid to not be an asshole even when others aren't around. I'll go into a theater that had 4 people in it, and the mess will look like there were 20, and it'll be scattered across various rows and all over the aisle. That's sort of not as bad when they're the only ones there, but the problem comes when the "I'm just going to let my kids run around" set DOES decide to go to an opening weekend show of "Boss Baby", because if you've got a theater full of kids that don't care accompanied by a theater full of PARENTS that don't care, it can look like a bomb went off by the end of it.

    Episode 160.5 - Minisode 160.5

A couple years back, my sister told me she was taking my nephew to "Minions" as his first movie in a theater for his third birthday, and I got as far as "SO, you're gonna be one of THOSE...." before she stopped me and explained how she'd already prepared him to NOT be an asshole. It's like she realized how much of a pain in the ass SHE was as a kid and chose a different path for her own children. Crazy.

The signs of a bad movie list

I can't believe no one's said this, but how about adding unnecessary swearing/gore to a movie to make it R-rated? Usually, this is in the form of bad ADR, digital blood, or scenes that stick out like a sore thumb of a character doing or saying something that was clearly an inserted shot. I was fearing the worst when I heard that "Logan" was going to be R-rated, that it was just going to be the wrong reaction to all the praise that "Deadpool" was getting at the time, but as it turned out, they actually crafted it to be a more adult movie, so it was justified and not simply a PG-13 movie with blood and swearing grafted onto it.

I don't know, I mean "3:10 to Yuma" was pretty good.

    Episode 160.5 - Minisode 160.5

Thanks! I've been away quite a while! I think I got really busy and then really uninterested in a lot of the movies they were going through, somewhere around "Can't Stop the Music" or so, and then I just got behind. As the historian, wasn't that the movie where there were about ten pages of comments in a row or something that had nothing to do with the movie, but with the guest and gay rights or topics or something?

    Episode 160.5 - Minisode 160.5

As far as "people talking in movies" stories go, I think that managing a theater for so long has made me hyper-sensitive to the things that go on while a movie is playing, but I still end up with some legit bad experiences. One of the most irritating was a couple years back when "Godzilla" was out. I was in the 3D Thursday night preview screening, because I don't have to pay, and they're usually not too busy anyway. This was no exception. However, in a theater that had about 200 seats that were occupied by maybe a dozen people, this guy and his small kid sit about 3 seats over from me. The kid is chattering throughout the trailers, which is fine, because maybe he'll shut up once the movie begins, right? Nope. He's bored out of his mind when there's nothing happening with monsters. I "Sssshhh" a couple times, kid finally shuts up. About 20 minutes in or so, there's a very quiet part of the movie, like Bryan Cranston is in the abandoned city or something, and the fucking DAD speaks up and says "Hey, that's a pretty big bug there, isn't it, buddy?" at normal volume and the kid starts going AGAIN. At this point, I tell the guy that he needs to shut up so that his kid doesn't start going again, I move up a couple rows, and the rest of the show was okay. But yeah, the asshole dad couldn't appreciate that his kid was actually keeping quiet. Usually, with small kids, you go to the regular show because it's cheaper and the kids don't give a shit about 3D anyway.

    Episode 160.5 - Minisode 160.5

I can't remember what movie it was where he was a guest, but I got a "Like" from PFT on a comment in the thread for that one, so that makes HIM my favorite guest!

So I Married An Axe Murderer (1993)

If I remember correctly, it plays about 28 times in the movie.

    Eragon (2006)

I'd be interested in a discussion about this and the other dozen or so mid-'00s movies that tried to be the next Lord of the Rings and/or Harry Potter that tried harder to convince us that they were the next big thing than they did to make a good self-contained film that anyone could give a shit about. If they're being watched by anyone now that didn't have that perspective, they must be SO confused why there are so many movies like this that are maybe half a movie or the first act of something that had no payoff whatsoever.

    Collateral Beauty (2016)

Yeah, from what I understand, the twist is that you kind of ARE watching the movie from the trailer after all, after the whole movie told you that you weren't.
  23. PlanBFromOuterSpace

    Collateral Beauty (2016)

Well, it isn't so much a twist as it is VERY deceitful marketing. I haven't seen the film in its entirety, but I work at a theater and have seen parts of it, including a scene VERY early on where they're explaining the job, which I guess COULD have had the potential to be more interesting if the trailer hadn't sold you on something completely different, which totally changes the story.
