Episode 188 - Body Rock: LIVE!

Paul... How have we not talked about the GOD DAMN ROBOT?!?!?!?! I'm literally speechless on it's presence, but as a child of the 80s all I could think about how freaking similar it looks to another famous robot.... Paulie's sexy robot from Rocky IV!! This has to be the same robot just with slight upgrades. It has the same body shape... arms... the chest and belly compartments. Right??? Is it not fair to assume that Stallone, who is the writer and director of Rocky IV, saw Body Rock and was inspired by this quick clip? Body Rock was in fact released a year before Rocky IV.

    Episode 183 - Ladybugs: LIVE!

Per an earlier post, someone shared the below image: Here you see Mullen's office celebrating another win by the Ladybugs. On the top of the homemade scoreboard are the years in which the Ladybugs won the championship. Is it strange to anyone else that from 1983 to 1990, the team won every year except 1985? I know this is a fictitious team, but if you go this route, why exclude one year. What is that missing year suppose to communicate to us? And on a side note, my OCD is going bonkers because if the props department just kept 1985 as a year they won the championship... that sign would be symmetrical. 4 years on top and 4 years on bottom!!

    Episode 183 - Ladybugs: LIVE!

Hey Paul... Wasn't it weird, that when Chesterfield visits his girlfriend, he brings her what looks like cheap-ass bouquet of roses bought at a gas station. What makes it even crazier, is that he presents them to her while she's tending her insanely large garden of more attractive flowers. These would be beneath her standards and if she ever wanted flowers in her house, she would pull from her own garden.

    Episode 183 - Ladybugs: LIVE!

The age of the girls on the team range from 10-13 years old. Also it's very clear by Mullen's office that the team is extremely successful. So then why did only one girl return to the team? I get some of the girls on last year's team are now older then what the league allows, but you're telling me that no other player on last year's team decided to return for another potential trophy? And what happened to the previous coach of those winning seasons? Help!!

Episode 182 - Rock Star: LIVE!

As Paul mentioned, the actress sitting next to Jen in the limo is Heidi Mark and she was once married to Vince Neil. But what's so interesting, is that the marriage only lasted 15 months and the divorce was finalized just weeks before the release of “Rock Star.” So I'm wondering if the film was the catalyst for their break up. We’re the antics performed by this fictitious band too real for Heidi and eventually opened her eyes to the likely insanity that took place while Mötley Crüe was on tour? On a side note, I lived in NYC through 9/11 and the only mental escape I could find was going to the movies. So I saw this film a few days after the attack. Oy vey. In fact this is how I sat through the movie at that time...

Episode 182 - Rock Star: LIVE!

I get that the interaction between Jen and the "limo girl" were discussed on the podcast, but the actual line Jen delivers at the end of the scene proves that the roles filled by her and Marky Mark were severely miscast. As we know, she tells the girl, "I just hope I am not as cynical as you are when I am your age.” Jen is then informed this soothsayer is 23, which shocks Jen. So what this scene is suppose to communicate to us, is that Jen thought this woman was much older then she was. But what’s so weird, is that at the time of this filming, Jen is approximately 32 years old and the actress next to her is 30. It’s not a huge difference and they do look the same age. What they should have done is have Rachel Hunter deliver these words of wisdom for although she too was 32yo at the time of the film... she did look a little more “tired” then Jen. In the end, this conversation proves that the main characters were suppose to be much younger and the studio should have hired accordingly.

    Episode 181 - Freejack: LIVE!

Again I'm thinking it's the suicide booths per the "original source" material (the book this film is supposedly based on.) These suicide booths are where poor folks donate their body to the rich so they can get into the afterlife. It's a current day freejacking vs. past freejacking.

    Episode 181 - Freejack: LIVE!

In addition to watching Freejack, I also read the book in which the film was based on — “Immortality, Inc.” by Robert Sheckley…. I clearly need help. Paul, I know you like to keep these Corrections & Omissions short, but I highly recommend you dive into these 5 points during the mini EP: The book's hero is Thomas Blaine and I shit you not… his job in the past was a yacht builder. He dies in a normal car accident in 1958 and transported to 2110. That’s 152 years into the future vs. the 15 years in the film. Blaine’s body does not come with him when he travels to the future. Only his mind was pulled from the past and it was transported into another body from the future. There is a strong belief in the afterlife. Any poor person can secure a place in the hereafter, so long as they give up their body so the rich can live longer on Earth. There are also Suicide Booths where people can freely walk to donate their body. This is probably what the "Suicide Assistance" billboard was referencing. There are people called “zombies” in the book. These are poor people who decide to give up their body for a rich person, but the transfer does not take. So the host body lives on without a soul. They can function, but eventually their body deteriorates. The rich soul that was suppose to enter the host body can either move on to the afterlife, but become a "ghost" that haunts those who’ve wronged them on Earth. Since the rich can easily secure a path to the afterlife, a lot of them live an excessive lifestyle filled with a slew of vices. Some of these people grow tired of the normal world and decide to move on to the afterlife at a young age. Those that want to end their life sooner, will hire “hunters” to track and kill them. Since Blaine has no real skills in the future, he becomes a hunter and we spend a few chapters where this yacht builder tracks and kills some guy. Bill Nye.... what do you have to say?

    Episode 181 - Freejack: LIVE!

I appreciate the frustration about Freejack being an unexplainable term, but personally I am more confused about "Sheila." What am I talking about you ask? Well attached is a screenshot from the end of the film where one of the armored vehicles has “Sheila” written in large, pink cursive lettering. Why? Why does this exist? And it’s not like there are other trucks featuring a cute moniker, ala World War II planes. This literally makes no sense!

Episode 179 - Second Sight: LIVE!

What really confused me, is how the film portrays the Catholic Church (in a very religious town) as totally being cool with hiring psychics. I'm not at all religious, but even I knew that believing in anything other than God, is a big No No. A quick google search lead me to this POV: "To try to discover the future through palm reading, tarot cards, or some other form of fortunetelling, or to try to control the future through black magic, witchcraft, or sorcery violates the first commandment." I don't care what you believe in, but anything that violates the 1st thing you are expected to follow or preach... is some shit you shouldn't be messing with. Ha! source: http://catholicstrai...rs-and-witches/
  15. I ask you all... did you ever wonder who attended the UK premier for this film??
  16. I can understand why the audience member felt that Lois was cock-blocking Clark, but there is stronger evidence of Superman cock-blocking him. Hear me out… During the double date scene at Laci’s apartment, Lois specifically tells Clark: "Clark. She really likes you, so notice the dress. Dress.” So what does Clark say… "Oh hey. Neat dress.” Then he bolts out the door. Not 6 seconds later, Superman arrives in the apartment… is introduced to Laci and says… "That’s a very attractive outfit you are wearing.” Yes, I understand that the reason Clark shows little interest in Laci, is that his (and Superman’s) one true love is Lois. So essentially Superman is helping keep the peace. But from an outsider who is oblivious to the fact that Clark and Superman are the same person… Superman is the cock-blocker in this situation.
  17. Thank you Paul, Jason and Jessica for coming all the way out to NYC. This was an amazing episode and I was unbelievably happy to be in the audience for it! As for my Correction & Omission, it is lengthy and relies on visual cues (always great for a podcast,) but I do think it's important to share. So even though I watched the film prior to attending the taping, I decided to re-watch it for this episode's release. Now while looking for a digital copy, I came across a promotional comic book for the film: Now what is absolutely BONKERS about this comic book, is that it pulls all of it’s material from everything that was shot. This includes the scenes that did NOT make the final cut! Below are some points I found especially intriguing. 1) There are TWO Nuclear Men! The footage Paul played, is not the studio’s first approach at what Nuclear Man was gonna look like. The Franken Berry looking fellow is actually Lex’s FIRST attempt at creating Nuclear Man. The first Nuclear Man is created in a lab from the genetic material pulled from Superman’s hair. This version is incredibly strong, but really, really dumb. Needless to say, Superman confronts and vaporizes him. To create the 2nd Nuclear Man, Lex takes the leftovers of the first one and puts it on a missile which ends up being shot into the sun… thus creating the Nuclear Man we saw in the released film. 2) Superman is NOT able to rebuild the Great Wall with just his eyes! I’m not sure if the illustrators were just as confused like us, but even they didn’t draw Superman rebuilding the Great Wall with his eyes. In the comic book, all Superman does is use his super speed to collect the rubble and put the wall back into place. 3) Why is Nuclear Man obsessed with Lacy and why is she more important than Lois in the finale? When the first version of Nuclear Man is looking for Superman, he comes across Lacy and Clark at a night club. There he immediately falls in love with her. Now although Nuclear Man is destroyed, Lex informs us that the material left behind to create the next Nuclear Man, still holds on to any memories. So that is why the 2nd version of Nuclear Man truly hates Superman and why he loves Lacy. As for the comic book's finale… After thinking he disposed of Superman, Nuclear Man decides to destroy the entire planet by becoming a nuclear bomb. He also believes he will protect Lacy so they can be the sole survivors of Earth. Superman comes to the rescue and distracts Nuclear Man by flying away with Lacy. Nuclear Man chases him and ends up being caught in a closed elevator. Like in the movie, Superman flies the elevator to outer space, but sun leaks in to refuel Nuclear Man. Superman is beaten up in outer space and just when Nuclear Man is about to capture Lacy on Earth, Superman creates a lunar eclipse. This in turn knocks out Nuclear Man, which then allows Superman to fly him into a reactor to be destroyed. 4) Superman & Jeremy's Relationship In the released film, Superman does not respond to Jeremy’s letter and only meets him for the first time at the UN. But per the comic book, upon receiving the letter, Superman immediately flies to the boy's school and explains why he can’t meddle in the arms race. This scene this is pulled from actual footage shot, for I also located a still supporting this notion. I am throughly confused why this, and so many other scenes, were left on the cutting room floor. With this scene in particular, you really get a sense of Superman’s internal struggle of whether he should view Earth as just a visitor or as someone who should call it home. Also at the end of the comic book, Superman speaks to the UN and says that he needs everyone to look at the world as he sees it. To achieve this, he puts Jeremy in a space suit, flies him around the world, and while being plugged into all the major news outlets… Jeremy communicates how he doesn’t see borders. He sees everything below him as “one world.” Again, a still provided shows that this concept was shot, but yet never featured in the final release.

    Episode 173 - Virtuosity: LIVE!

Are we expected to believe that a disgraced cop, who is found guilty of murdering two innocent bystanders, would be the recipient of a state-of-the-art arm transplant?! I would be pissed to hear my tax dollars were spent replacing a convicted murder's arm with one that can defuse bombs. And when Denzel rips a random wire out of his arm, why is it that he still has full capabilities of that arm? Did he find the “appendix" of all wires where if it's removed, nothing will go haywire? And how did he even know that he had a wire in his arm that would work for this situation? Was he give the blueprints?

    Episode 173 - Virtuosity: LIVE!

To build on Jason's point, I loved how Kelly Lynch (as a psychologist) ends up doing WAY more than what her qualifications would justify: At one point she flashes what you could assume is a badge and demands that all phone lines be cut in the building. But as you can see in the provided screenshot, all that she flashes is a business card and again.... she is just a psychologist w/ no authority. After mere seconds of examining the dead asian woman who was shot on the train, she immediately deduces that it was Sid who shot her from behind vs. Denzel. She is not a forensic pathologist. Upon finding her daughter and seeing there's a bomb in play, she immediately suggests to Denzel to try and "get to the main operating system to reset the internal clock." How or why would she ever know how to do that?!

Episode 172 - The Last Dragon: LIVE!

When Rock interviews the new henchmen, the first one hands him a news article in lieu of his resume. The headline reads, "Co-Ed Thrown Into Incinerator.” There are two articles presented and if you blow up the shot, the one on the left discusses the 1969 interaction between President Nixon and former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam. Even Herry Kissinger makes an appearance. Just found this funny.

Now I'm just noticing the dual hats. Imagine if this was a real drug deal. - Would the guy in the back feel proud that he's wearing the same style of hat as his boss? - Would the rest of the gang resent this kiss-ass henchman for sucking up to the boss? - Would the boss be embarrassed or even angry that his unique look is being copied by his underlings?

I can't fault Y.K. Kim for inserting this film trope into his masterpiece, but can we demand that Hollywood no longer have cops or henchman test a bag of cocaine in the dead center with a knife? I get what they are trying to communicate; they need to test if the product is pure... but does the buyer not have any concern that this bag will leak in transit? Just think of all that wasted nose candy! In the end, I would totally respect the tester to simply cut the corner of the bag and then break out one of those potato chip clips to seal it up. Episode 170 - Bratz

Can we all agree that the actor playing Dylan is not only NOT deaf, but the clarity of his speech changes. When we first meet Dylan, it's when he bumps into Yasmin. He starts to talk with this "accent" and then seconds later, and in the same scene, he begins speaking with full clarity. WTF! In fact I stripped out the audio and just listen for your self: https://soundcloud.c...from-deaf-dylan Oh and I love all the details about Dylan from this Bratz Fan Page.
