    Episode 69.5 — Minisode 69.5

Or it can remain Gymkata and star Gabby Douglas?

    Episode 239 — New Dad

In the context of a comedy podcast, no. Is it also disrespectful when Scott pretends to not be able to say the Cake Boss' real name? It's all in good fun obviously.

    Episode 69.5 — Minisode 69.5

Someone can check my facts on this, but I read up on him a while back and I believe the story goes... Kurt Thomas was like the biggest name in gymnastics in his day, he was the Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt of his sport, he was inventing new moves and considered by many to be one of the best in the world. He became something of a household name, he was handsome-ish and cocky and charismatic (although that doesn't show at all in this film). Kurt Thomas was the man. US gymnastics had been without an Olympic gold medal for quite some time, over 40 years, and Kurt Thomas was going to be the guy to get it, everybody was sure of it. When the 1980 Olympics came around the US was having problems with Russia and America boycotted the Olympics. Kurt Thomas never got to get his Olympic gold medal, and I'm sure as an athlete that shit killed him, being the "best" means nothing if you don't get to prove it with that Olympic Gold medal. When the 1984 Olympics rolled around he couldn't compete again, he was getting older and dealing with an injury, so once again he had to sit out a chance at a gold medal. I believe at the time he was also experiencing some money troubles due to a divorce. So I think Gymkata was made for a lot of reasons, vanity, money, propaganda, wanting to cash in on his celebrity while it still existed, and I feel it was also to fill that void of not getting to fulfill his Olympic dream. If he couldn't be a gold medalist he was going to be the next best thing, an action star. Except the movie did terribly and he filed for bankruptcy. Ah well, tough break Kurt Thomas.

    Episode 69.5 — Minisode 69.5

No worries, it's a thin line between so bad it's good, and just straight up bad, and that line is different for each of us. I felt the same way about A Talking Cat!? which people were super pumped about but I was like this shit is just boring as fuck. Also, did you watch this alone? I try to never watch these movies alone, having like-minded people in the room along for the ride always heightens the movie. I never would've gotten through Birdemic on my own.

    SQUIRRELS

Aw, this movie doesn't even exist yet? I think as a rule of thumb we should suggest things we've actually seen. I hope this gets made though.

    Theme song for Nerd Poker

Not the kind of stuff I'm into at all, but it does make for a great intro.

    SQUIRRELS

The sound design of the attacking squirrel was pretty hilarious. This has my attention, I hope it turns out to be entertaining one way or another.

    Kick-Ass 2.

Ha! Nope, but in the Ultimates he goes on a rampage trying to catch Betty Ross, proclaiming he's "Horny for Betty!" it's pretty obvious what he's going to do to her if he gets ahold of her. Oh and I almost forgot in that issue Wasp flashes her tits at Hulk to get his attention. I think Millar is much like the Michael Bay of comics, he does stuff that appeals to the sensibilities of 15yr old boys, and like Baby he can deliver a fun ride sometime, but also like Bay it's all really vapid and shallow.

    Cabin Boy (1994)

Aw, is this a bad movie? I loved it when I was younger, I'm kinda afraid to revisit it and find out it was terrible.

Let's just chalk it up to a group effort. Way to go team. High fives all around.

YYYYEEEESSSSS!!! This might be the most excited I've been for a movie choice, I really wanted them to do this one. I'm going to pretend that it was my comments in the forum that was the tipping point.

    Episode 239 — New Dad

    The Mothman Prophecies

I'm not saying I believed the movie, just that at the time, after I had seen what I can only describe as a living shadow in real life, it was creepier than it would've been otherwise. I don't have any real clear memories of the movie except that.

    Wishmaster (1997)

Your taste is your taste, but personally I've found that if I'm going to even go down the rabbit hole of b-movies, it's best to be open minded, because you never know what movies are going to be enjoyable or not until you watch it. Sometimes even the most low-budget nonsensical stuff can defy your expectations and be lovingly made and enjoyable. Sometimes people don't have the money or knowledge or talent to put together a great movie but the passion really shines through, Miami Connection comes to mind. But anyway... I love the Wishmaster movies. The way Andrew Divoff plays the titular character really makes him a fun fascinating character to watch. The different creative ways they find to have people's wishes turned back on them is really fun too. My favorite Wishmaster movie though is the one where he goes to jail. I think that movie has the most fun with the limitations of this character's power.

    The Mothman Prophecies

I don't remember if this movie was good or not, but the fact that it at least claimed to be based on a true story and the fact that I had recently had a similar weird experience encountering a shadowy figure in my home really made this movie really creepy for me personally. I was not in the right mind to evaluate this movie's quality.

    Kick-Ass 2.

I don't think MIllar is an "acquired taste", he's one of the biggest names in writing comics, I think he's just kinda hacky. The fact that he thinks he needs to use rape habitually to make his bad guys seem evil just shows how uncreative he is. Not only does he have fictional characters raped though, there are rape jokes all the time, implied rape, it's just a recurring theme in his work, he tries to work into mainstream superhero stuff when he can too (The Hulk in Ultimates). I feel like anyone leaning on rape that much probably has some problems they need to review.

    Worst ADR

It's become the type of thing I'll do with almost anything when I'm bored and there's nothing actually good to watch. Sometimes I'll just turn to the SyFy channel and riff on whatever cheesy garbage they have on at the time. But my favorite has to be Spanish soap operas. I'm so weird I'll do it when I'm alone.

    Fist of the North Star!

I had one of the anime features on VHS in middle school, never got around to watch the live action version, think i'll check it out now that it's on Netflix.

Actually found a link! But thanks for the offer. I'll check out that other one too.

    Worst ADR

Speaking of ADR and dubbing though, does anybody else sometimes like to watch a movie on mute and improvise all the dialog? It's kind of a fun silly thing to do with friends and such.

Django is great. Off topic, but for the longest time I thought Franco Nero from Django and Terrence Hill from My Name is Nobody were the same guy. That's another fun western for anybody into that.

    Demon Cop

I'm in. How the hell can I watch this? Can't seem to find it anywhere.
