There might be some new developments on that actually. Stay tuned.

Almost entirely visual and not particularly funny, but fuck it. Improv will occur regardless.
Please no, that's not how it works. Every time someone ignores the guidelines it just makes it harder for me to sift through these submissions.

Who controls the transition sound effects? Is Schletter just sticking them in when he thinks is appropriate? or does PFT have control?
Â
or does someone just call out "Flashback too" or "cut too" and they put the sound effect over that in post?
None of the above. I set up tablets that all the improvisers can reach, with three big buttons on them. So any of the improvisers can trigger the sound effects at any time. We set it up so the whole thing is live-to-tape. I'll fix some levels in post but it's pretty minimal.

Scuzzman is so fucking chill, I got to talk to him after the recording for like 5 minutes, just he and I for some of it.

EDIT: What do you get at Thai places Stard? You a curry man or more noodles and such?
i kinda too often default to tom kha gai and chicken curry. pad thai sometimes. i try to experiment when something stands out.

also, there was zero tension or 'shutting down' vibe. everyone was just happily rolling with each other. it's tough to jump into a podcast as someone from outside the scene and follow all the 'official' comedy improv rules. very few people could do that, and i thought stars did a fantastic job.

One of their songs I didn't hate, which is more than I can say about 99% of musical guests on podcasts and talk shows. (I hate music on comedy with an irrational passion).this sentiment makes me feel like i understand being human a little less.

we are not taking a tally of your votes in bartertown.

There isn't enough time in the day to listen to all the great new music coming out.Agreed, I thought I alluded to that. Really like that Timber track

SORRYSORRYSORRY I can't help it. If you like dark, nasty, balls-to-the-wall rock and roll music and don't think 18:08-19:50 of the following video is powerful as fuck, I just don't even know (purely improvised, mind you).

I'm so weak...
that song has the lick i learned to play harris on stage at summah summit...good memory. i kinda like the lick too.
Â
but sorry, that section is absolutely not dark, nasty or balls to the wall. but like i said, some of my best friends are phish fans. i went to a show once, i've heard it all. i get it. i don't hate everything, there are moments i can dig. i respect them as musicians, respect the 5th member. trey's a legit guitarist. i just hate noodling, and the sound is just not cool to me.

I love you guys at Who Charted and will miss Harris so much but I feel like you need to delete this episode and try again. Just so much negativity and hate compared to celebration and love. We already know you guys really don't like the band they call Phish, but beating us over the head with it for so much of the show after knowing how much Harris loved them was hard to listen to. And being disrespectful in general to the people who do somehow like them. There's a lot of shitty music out there, and Harris is one of their biggest fans that I'm aware of. It was such a weird send off for such a nice guy. I'm guessing it's not what you wanted when you set out to record this episode but that's how it came off.
Â
PS: I don't know why you played that awful song 5 times instead of playing some of the live stuff Harris held in high regard and played during his own show about the band. Perhaps you would have talked more about Harris and less about that David Bowie song and how much you can't stand it
did you know him?

Thank you to the interns for helping point me to some good moments. There were so many, and it got so complicated focusing it, I ended up basically digging through all the episodes myself as well. Montages are not ever easy, but especially in these circumstances it's crazy. We really appreciate the understanding and support. I hope they inspire people to go back and listen to all the Harris podcasts unedited.

So, am I the only one who sees Leonard Maltin?
I'm sorry to differ with you sir, but Maltin has always been there

I just want to pipe in real quick and say that Harris really was trying to get better and was making all sorts of plans for the future (read Jake's twitter for proof). I don't think there's much question that he didn't intend this.

I just came here to say thanks for that outro music. So good and funky!
"nassau tweezer". he always talked about it. credit to scott for remembering it.

Thank you for all of your moving words. It's amazing how many people really got him. This has been soul-crushing and weird and wrong and exhausting not just to experience, but to work through -- if you think this is hard to listen to, imagine recording it... imagine what's on the cutting room floor... It's so weird losing someone you know so publicly, learning it on TMZ, unable to escape it all over the Internet. It's bizarre and forces you to process it way too quickly and intensely. Having this episode on deck only made it crazier, but I'm ultimately so glad we had more Harris to share, and somehow it's as funny as ever.
Â
I guess I've technically known Harris for about three years now. When I was listening up on Earwolf to prepare for my new job, he was the first guy who clicked with me and I said, "That guy. I'm gonna get along with that guy." He had a personality I related to and just seemed like so many friends of mine. I already knew how to talk to him. He was so casually hilarious, but almost just because he was more logical or grounded or something. His take was always the coolest. As he might say, "cool dude, great 'tude".
Â
He was just over at my place a few weeks ago, we had so much fun. We caught up before Scott/Adam/Chelsea got here last week. He knew all about my show with Who Charted in Sketchfest, which took me by surprise. He paid attention like that. In the back of my mind I was gauging how he looked, hoping he was doing ok with sobriety.
Â
I always wanted to hang out more, and bummed when he had to leave. I have many great memories with him, on and off mic, but not nearly enough. I was far from "close" with him, but I was so happy to be at the point where we were buddies, and I knew it would only grow in the future, guaranteed. I just really liked him personally. That's the worst part for me and my own selfish reasons. I wish I had had more time and actively went out to all the parties and shows that I could have. It's extra fucked up when it's a comedian friend who dies (which I'm learning now), because every memory is just pure goofball joy, and thinking back on those moments now with a dark cloud just feels absolutely wrong and was not supposed to be part of the story. It's hard not to be mad about it.
Â
But all I can hear in my head when I think and see all these sad thoughts is what his sharp, smart ass response would be. His personality was so distinct, I can tap into that at any time. He would have the perfect thing to say and put us in our place for being overdramatic and humblebragging. There's zero question whether he wanted this or not. He didn't. It just purely sucks, and there's nothing "fitting" or "rock-star" or "meant-to-be" about it. But at least there's no question he would want everyone to chill out and move forward and keep goofing around.
