    Episode 281 — Reappropriation

With any of these slurs, I think the only people qualified to comment on this are people of the particular group whose slur is being reclaimed. To me it depends a little on the word. I agree that calling other women 'bitches' to reclaim it can potentially be problematic because it can reinforce the idea that it's okay an thing to call women, but at the end of the day, people are always still going to be using it. It's a much more jarring and upsetting thing to be called than simply an 'asshole.' So I think trying to change its meaning and connotation by using it in a different way (more similar to the way men are described as 'boss') is at very least a noble effort. It's the same with 'slut.' The negative connotation with female promiscuity is not going to go away, so using the word in a positive, friendly way takes away some of its emotional power. When you're not ashamed of being something, its power to injure you is reduced. If you can't make a word less hateful from the perspective of the person using it, you can at least lessen your capacity to be hurt by it. When people see that their attacks are genuinely not bothering/hurting you, they're more likely to leave it alone.

Episode 252 — The Creeeeeeepy Halloween Special

Lot of haters up in here. I loved Molly on this ep and hope she's a repeat guest!

    Episode 246 — Butthole Baby

"Kareem Abdul-Jabbar liked dot net. Nothing but it." may be the worst pun I've ever heard, bravo. Great episode all around, the banter was excellent. Love these two!

    Episode 240 — The Mohawk

I don't disagree. I think the caller was asking several questions, though, one being "is this haircut in and of itself racist," which I don't think is true. It's the reasoning and justification for it that makes it racist. It's not on the level of white people wearing Native American headdresses, for example, where there's just no way it's anything but explicit appropriation for aesthetic reasons.

    Episode 240 — The Mohawk

This is one of those cases where I think a basic Google/Wikipedia search worth of research could really help the discussion. What we call a "Mohawk" is a style of haircut that has been around in a variety of cultures for thousands of years, and as the caller said, the Mohawk tribe did not even wear their hair in this way. The name is problematic, the origin of white people appropriating it is probably racist given they settled on "Mohawk," but the haircut itself is not unique to one source, so I don't think you can say cutting your hair in a particular way that a variety of unconnected cultures have used over the years is inevitably racist. Still love the podcast, though. Keep 'em coming!
  7. I worked the comedy booth at Bumbershoot, and we got a lot of people through the line that clearly didn't care about comedy or have any idea what they wanted to see (and thus held up the line as they asked the clueless volunteers "who's funny?"). I think they were just waiting in the line because it seemed like they should. I honestly don't know what those types expect from a festival, but I'm guessing the super homophobic asshole was one of them. Anyway, I was curious if that stuff would make it to the recording and I'm glad it did because despite the guy being an asshole, it generated some funny stuff. This was the only i4h show I could make and it was my favorite of what I saw at the festival. Huskey dominated.

Great episode and guest, quite jealous of Tig and her slide.

Episode 7 — A Crazy Moment in Phishtory

I loved all of the callers bombing with their suggestions. Disappointed there were no lady callers - what percentage of Phish fans are women? Maybe many of the lady listeners like myself enjoy the podcast, but not so much Phish...

Episode 229 — Two Thumbs & Not Much Else

Two great weeks in a row, this episode may be my fav so far this year. Would love more episodes with this duo, I laughed out loud more than usual.
  14. Shots fired! I listen to Yo, Is This Racist? quite a bit and generally agree with what is said there. I don't mean to be a stick in the mud because this was a very funny episode, and I think the clip played was generally indicative of douchebaggery, but let's not confuse institutionalized racism with unfair regional stereotypes and generalizations. What they said on the show was offensive (and deserved to be mocked since YITR prides itself on social justice and should be called out when it fails), but it wasn't racist. Also white people, I don't care the context, do not say the N-word. Not allowed.

I like karaoke and hip-hop... As a white person am I allowed to do American Boy? It's in the karaoke books!

    Episode 219 — Farts and Procreation 3

The first F&P was legitimately what got me into the concept of podcasts. I had listened to some NPR, a few episodes of this show as well as Doug Loves Movies, but I wasn't fully committed to the "Podcast Lifestyle." I was confused, overwhelmed, and first introduced to the concept of struggling to stifle my laughter at work (it came out right around the time I started my first job as a "businessman.") Great to see that the chemistry is still there, I thought this episode was hilarious. F&P 1 is the gold standard of podcast episodes for me and I've still never laughed as hard or relistened as often to an episode since, but this and Time Bobby 2 have restored my faith in sequels.

    Episode 59 — Spice World

This was a fun episode, but I feel like the gang missed the mark. The movie should be judged on what it is, which an intentionally campy mess. The whole point of the movie is that it's ridiculous to be making a Spice Girls movie in the first place The fact that the Spice Girls can mysteriously talk to aliens is the joke. One of my favorite scenes is where Sporty is looking sadly out a window at nighttime holding a goddamn football and wearing a football uniform. There is a scene where their backup dancers are wearing sparkly assless onesies and sailor hats. It's satire, y'all.

    Episode 101.5 — 11/9/12 TWO CHARTED 40

Great ep and loved Ku on Parks last night! Although she sold the bitchy character, I do have a hard time picturing her as anything but sweet and awesome.

    Episode 101 — Crazzle Dazzles

I didn't like the "strange" comment in the 100 episode, but it was clear Howard didn't mean anything by it. It was cool that he apologized, though, it was the right thing to do. This isn't the place for a big PC debate, but I agree with Andy Smith. Is it really so hard to avoid using offensive phrases or making rude comments that aren't even jokes in order to avoid causing harm to people? There is so much animosity towards those who are PC, but being PC is just generally being polite and open-minded... Nothing inherently evil in that. Anyway, this was a great episode! I was unfamiliar with Baron Vaughn, but I thought he was great here, I'll have to check out his work. Can't wait to see Kulap on Parks tomorrow!

    Episode 143 — Jigsaw Puzzles!

Harry Potter audiobooks are amazing for cross-country trips. I took one with my dad where we stopped at a bunch of national parks and we'd get to awesome places and end up staying in the car to find out what would happen next. Great episode!

    Episode 3 — Turbo Marco

Completely forgot about Adam Green. About 8 years ago my friend and I tried to get him to sneak us into his show because we were underage and he never did. Also remember the time he was on Cash Cab. Curious to actually listen to this, I've been enjoying the podcast thus far!

    Episode 68 — Feminism

I agree with scozzie in that David said a few things that made me cringe. I really don't think it's a fault of his, but there does seem to be a tendency among white men to not see their own privilege and to as a result say ignorant things. There can be a sense of "well, men are victims of sexism to the same extent that women are, and therefore female rights issues have no ground to stand on" (case in point: Reddit). It's true that sexism and gender roles can hurt men, too, but to say that men and women have had equal opportunities and representation throughout history and even today is simply not accurate.

    Episode 174 — Series Regulars

I was stoked when I saw the guests for this episode, and it didn't disappoint! Also realized how much I would love a Party Down reunion episode of Comedy Bang Bang. A lot of the funniest episodes for me are the ones with guests who have worked together and/or are friends. C'mon, Childrens Hospital did it.
