This would definitely be one of those "go see this before you listen, it's worth it" situations. This movie is outgoddamnrageous. 8% on Rotten Tomatoes. I don't think you can fully understand how completely bonkers this movie is unless you read the "goofs" page on IMDB; I'm talking anachronisms up to and including 11,500 years off, geographical errors, factual errors, you name it. I trust you guys will do the right thing... i'll leave you with a quote, also from IMDB: D'Leh: [in the pit, after deciding to not kill the Saber-tooth] Do not eat me when I save your life!

    submit youtube clips for improv4humans

This isn't technically YouTube, but these dudes, especially the main one, need to be heard as they discuss the Dark Knight Rises. They really do. http://midnightphil.com/darkknightrises.html ...this guy's whole site is a treasure trove, also.

Episode 31 — Dressing In Chains

I think you're missing the point. When people are laughing at something, that's different than portraying it in a way that evokes some other feeling; the point of a drama like Roots is to make people consider the tragic implications of that moment in history. What Jennie and Andrew were pointing out is that deriving humor from using racial stereotypes is, at best, not effective social satire, and, at worst, racist.
  4. Really wish June or a not-straight dude were here to point out how unreasonably attractive Lee Pace is.

Episode 31 — Dressing In Chains

Wow, what a great episode. I really appreciate the conversation about "ironic racism" or whatever we should call it, and it's really cool to hear it from the comedy community... it kind of makes the "you're just square and you don't get it" argument obsolete. Andrew, it seems like a lot of people come on here or go on iTunes or whatever to air their grievances with this show, which, in my opinion, generally boil down to "I'm stupid and you're talking about real things instead of making jokes and it hurts my head" (not that I don't love the podcasts that are dedicated to making jokes, too), but I just want to say I think this show is excellent and important, please keep doing it. ....I do agree that the weekly format is better but you know what everybody, if your biggest problem is having to listen to a short podcast every day you're one of the luckiest people in the fucking world, so stop whining.
  6. Oh my goodness I could listen to you eviscerate stupid people all day long.

    Episode 101 — Crazzle Dazzles

Hey genius, I'm gonna blow your mind. You ready? Check it out: PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT IN THE POPULATION BEING OFFENDED CAN BE OFFENDED TOO! Like, I don't know if you can believe this craziness, but guess what... a lot of those people who voted for marriage equality?.... STRAIGHT PEOPLE! WHOA! INSANE! Don't hurt yourself, now.
  9. oh I'm really scared of physical violence even though I'm a fucking nihilist. And if you disagree you should be killed as you are being racist, and no racist deserves to live. You are goddamned brilliant. This shit is what makes Internet comments great. Thanks for making me laugh, it really brightened my day.
  10. @thestray-- Let's you and I leave this dumbass alone. He's horribly misinformed, and will get punched in the face before long for being such a dipshit. And you know what, he's 21, which is a baby, and hopefully someday he'll learn and grow and look back at what a hateful little fucker he used to be. Until then, perhaps you will join me in feeling sorry for his pathetic racist ass.
  11. @Cellar Door, a more articulate response, from the excellent book "Why are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? and Other Conversations About Race", by Beverly Tatum: When I am asked, "Can people of color be racist?" I reply, "The answer depends on your definition of racism." If one defines racism as racial prejudice, the answer is yes. People of color can and do have personal prejudices. However, if one defines racism as a system of advantages based on race, the answer is no. People of color are not racist because they do not systematically benefit from racism. And equally important, there is no cultural and institutional support or sanction for the racial bigotry of people of color. In my view, reserving the term racist only for behaviors committed by Whites in the context of a White-dominated society is a way of acknowledging the ever-present power differential afforded Whites by the culture and institutions that make up the system of advantage and continue to reinforce notions of White superiority.
  12. @Lukas Holmes- can't say the n-word either. @Cellar Door- you don't get it.
  13. Wait. People of other races can't do it either. I don't get why people think that would be okay.
  14. ...I do the same thing but with "bagel."
  15. Not to be indelicate, but this question is like the Poster Boy of Yo is this Racism. No, you can't say that shit if you're white. The fuck is wrong with you.
