  1. What features do you love about earwolf.com now?

I like that it exists and I can click a thing or two to listen to a podcast on my computer

What new features would you like to see?

Search! Good god damn google will do this for you for free, get a fucking search function already. I'm also gonna second that the episode pictures need to be addressed.

What site features do you use most?

I find an episode to listen to and then I listen to it.

What parts of the site do you never use?

All of the pages that have been introduced over the last few years which don't do anything. I especially like when I donate to a show and I get a generic "Hey it's Scotty Auks and whatshisname, thanks for donating!" video which is actually from four years ago. Really makes the shit worth it.

  2. ANNOUNCEMENT!

THE SUPEREGO ARCHIVES (SEASON 1-3) ARE NOW ON HOWL!!

I feel like that's all I really have to say... so go listen! Go go go go!

Season one is definitely missing some episodes and season two is missing the best ofs, which are absolutely different than listening to each individual episode. Same thing with season 3 except the 'second half' is missing too, which you can literally listen to for free at gosuperego.com. This is just stupid!

    Season one best of: https://soundcloud.c...pisode-1-17-mp3

Season two best of volume 1: https://soundcloud.c...pisode-2-10-mp3

Season two best of volume 2: https://soundcloud.c...pisode-2-17-mp3

Season three fundraising podathon: https://soundcloud.c...episode-3-8-mp3 (best of volume 1)

Too many to list but you can also find the second half of season three on soundcloud.

Also you should buy Mount Us More if you haven't and Bad Honky too.

  3. Just to keep my angst regular, this is still a thing:

"We are experiencing difficulty with the ad-free Earwolf/Wolfpop archives on Howl. For now, you can listen to the archives - with ads - for free in the iOS App, or on Earwolf.com or Wolfpop.com. As promised, ad-free archives are coming to Howl soon! When they do, they will be exclusive to Howl Premium."

Just excuse that Howl has been on the scene for eight fuckin months at this point. It's still exactly the same as it was when it launched with the exception that a few of the shows have put out some new episodes. The app still freezes several times per episode even when the episode has been downloaded. There's still no search function. WTF with Barack Obama is still the featured episode on the landing page.

This is a garbage service. Long time fan very much still disappointed. This is super basic stuff and the no ads thing was advertised from the start. To call this amateur would be insulting to true amateurs. "As promised ad-free episodes are coming to Howl!" Okay, when? When you start charging money for a service you are actually responsible for filling your end of the bargain, so where is it?

  4. So what's the deal with the Howl originals? They keep rolling out new shows, but when do new episodes of the older ones come out?

They don't, it seems like every original show is a limited series with no intention of succession. I dunno maybe they're planning Howl Originals Season 2 at some point but that seems severely misguided unless their intention was to get a bunch of people to accidentally pay them $5 one time.

  5. Usually I love the podcast. Plenty of belly laughs.

But there was a lot of reaching to be outraged in this episode and more than a few instances of what sounded like wilful ignorance.

Outside of a crappily fantastical representation of the internet and using technology that already seems ridiculously primitive, Hackers is a pretty good 'teen' movie.

Parts are outlandish but it's clear that the makers acknowledged that. The lead characters are designed to be a cooler version of regular hackers. The 100% accurate version of this film would be a very dull, very quiet experience.

The dress sense fits with the era, if a little after the fact. It's more a early 90s West Coast style - Jane's Addiction ish. You know, before grunge came in and turned it all plaid and jeans. But given that these characters are meant to be cliquey and set apart from the regular kids, criticising them for dressing weird - especially when it's set in New York. - makes no sense.

I have to add that convincing people that a large building they are new to has a swimming pool is incredibly easy. I don't know about going so far as convincing them to go up through a fire escape to the roof, but say something with enough confidence, people will buy it.

The soundtrack is great. Possibly the first time a Hollywood film got the music right for 90s youth culture (okay, apart from the Squeeze track).

Still, the episode was worth it for "What's its mission?"

    You're a painfully misguided soul

  6. So Howl is straight up a joke and I'd be honestly amazed, not sad but amazed, if it succeeds. Needs some serious looking at and I'm disappointed that something I've loved and respected for years is wallowing in this mediocrity. Do it right or don't do it at all, how do I understand this and these industry vets don't?

  7. I'm honestly getting really tired of this Dan fanfiction every week. Clearly what Blaine does works for the group or they wouldn't continue playing the campaign, it's not like they signed big league contracts and the format of the show is up for review with Scotty Aux and the big dogs at scripps. Jesus just calm your dicks down is all I'm asking.

  8. And ya know I'm gonna post more shit because I know someone will bring up that they made bad decisions in Sark's campaign too. But Sark had been the DM of this group for years when they started recording the show so he may have been more accustomed to dealing with the group (the original group) when they would act in unanticipated ways. The show was always plagued with Gerry's absences, and then with his and Sarah's both (she had a kid). Blaine was gone for a bit when his wife gave birth. Sark also had familial availability conflicts with the show which led us to only having three of the original group of six playing. Steve has come on often but seems to have to leave early or is just not able to be there often. Dan is there regularly but he was not someone the group played with in the past (not saying that he is an outsider but there is a chemistry missing in some areas just because he simply has not hung out with all of these people for decades) and so his style is different.

Straight up this is not 'the same' show that it was a couple of years ago and you need to accept that it is never going to be. For me the spirit of it does feel the same and I find myself entertained by it every week. I just don't know how I can help those who keep listening every week only to come on here and complain about why they don't like it.

  9. It seems I am on the other side of why people like this show. I still maintain that this a comedy show about having fun with your friends framed around playing a game of D&D, not a serious show about a game of D&D. My favorite parts are the dumb shit that everyone says as friends getting to hang out and play a game together. Just like when Rich Sommer was doing his Cardboard! podcast on Wolfpop, where my favorite parts were just friends having regular conversation and going off on tangents. While it is fun to see things progress as far a story goes I think more important is the group hanging out together and bullshitting. There are other podcasts, youtubers, and so on which offer 'serious about roleplaying' content which you others are probably more interested in. Quick examples in order of silly to less silly: check out Crit Juice, Critical Role, and Titansgrave (a Wil Wheaton Thing)

Since apparently I have to be this shithead to keep this place from being a giant echo chamber, I will voice that I would not enjoy listening to the show with Dan as the DM. I appreciate his presence as a PC on the show and that he tries to keep the rest of the party on track in terms of progression and roleplaying. Maybe Blaine might not be your ideal after Sark but for me the highlights of the past few episodes were Brendon's presence -- the different energy that he brought to the group and his flowing exuberance in playing this game -- and not Dan's DMing.

The probably should have wished to get away from the giant land, but remember that they weren't sure how the wishes would work and if they'd have a Twilight Zoney twist. The state of where we're at in the story is not something I put on Blaine, but the decisions that the party has made first with the roc and then with the mishandling of the helm of teleportation. Now with the decision to pick sides in a continental war, and who knows what else in the future. The party has managed to stay alive but they have in general made terrible story decisions to far, they have picked poorly at nearly every turn -- don't forget that this campaign started with them burning down a bar and having to escape the police -- regardless of what is offered by the DM. How's that for your roleplaying game guys?

So basically no offense meant to Dan of course but I'd rather listen to Blaine than Dan as the DM in this podcast. I don't think I'm alone in this though we are apparently in the minority.

  10. Y'all some negative people. This was a pretty interesting episode. I do hope that they can somehow roll Elzid or another Brendon character in the campaign because that sort of goofy is missed right now and he seemed to genuinely enjoy playing as a new player. That was the fun part for me. Of course they record these in advance and two or a three at a time it seems so it'd be a while before all the positive feedback entices him back to the show.

Anyway, I'm into this black land thing. I love that the wish ring went off well and that our adventurers have captured this idea that they should join with the force all the giants are fighting because the giants are dicks. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out (probably with them all dying because the black land is the worst place to go if I had to guess).

    Keep em rollin bros

  11. Thanks for that info, that's really interesting.

"A guy handed me a check for 500 Million dollars and I stuffed it in his face and I said go fuck yourself, because I didn't like how expensive his suit was." - Bernie Sanders (Adomian)

Hmm yes let me get my Uncle Lorne on the phone, this is exactly the kind of material SNL needs!!

  12. What should have been said plainly is that it's too costly to keep all the years and years of episodes free to listen to, but rather than delete them all you can pay a minimal monthly fee to still have access to them which would ideally cover the server costs and hopefully net a little profit. As a bonus, anything in those archives is ad free and you get access to a few one off exclusives on top of that.

Don't even bring words like premium into it because that's part of what's confusing people about what the service they're being asked to pay for is. I know for me, and apparently I'm not the only one, when I saw that this was a subscription service I thought it meant that there would be ad free versions of new shows and that Howl Originals were being actively produced. I was mistaken on both counts and so will not continue my enrollment. I don't regret having paid a measly $5 already, I just won't continue to do so as there is no point for me personally.

  13. I finished episode 5 of hardcore game of thrones and am curious when I can expect more. Also, if the howl.fm site isn't going to have their own boards, are there going to be boards here, where I can find answers to questions like this one?

I have that same question about when to expect more episodes. I signed on to check out a couple of the exclusives that I would be interested in hearing only to see that there are a minimal amount of them. Superego Forgotten Classics is my best example, where we have two episodes and two behind the episodes, uploaded a month ago and no new episodes since then and no information on the site about whether or not there will be more. I know these are labeled as 'mini-series' but there had better be more than two episodes of Forgotten Classics which is a great idea and was my biggest draw into checking out Howl. I'm not thrilled at the idea of paying for a subscription and then just hoping that it pans out...

  14. There was a stretch where I was like 'Yeah I'm gonna subscribe to this shit right now actually,' but then there wasn't an app for my android phone so I didn't. And I'll probably forget about it by the time they have one. Sorry guys, you'll get me next time maybe probably not to be honest

  15. I think my biggest criticism, though is how Norris is portrayed as a messy guy. Wouldn't the better move in a comedy be to make his house really neat, so that Reno is coming in and messing it all up? Or, if you wanted Norris to be messy, it would be even funnier/cuter if Reno was the neat one and tried to clean up the house. But no, no effort to make a joke at any point. Just: here's a messy guy, and here's a dog.

It actually comes back a couple of times. First when Reno is brought to Norris' house Norris tells him not to mess it up (it's already messy, this is literally the joke). Then even though Reno is kind of a messy dog he won't even go into the house, he'd rather sleep in the car -- a car that Chuck Norris has just recently derided for its state! It's very funny. :)
