Hey guys, hope I'm not too late, but I wanted to reply to Jason's request that a Mormon weigh in on whether or not 'imprinting' is based on some tenet of LDS doctrine, where young girls are assigned protectors for the rest of their life. It's not. I don't know much about Twilight but I've been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints all my life. While some of elements from Twilight seem to be influenced by the author's religion, such as abstinence before marriage, or families being sealed together forever (in this case as vampires though), I think a lot more of the series is influenced by what I'd call "bizarre housewife fantasy." Especially imprinting, which, to use Jason's expression, is bananas.
