Take on Greeeeene

Got to agree with most of your last post there. While 4e seems quick, easy & fun it is all about fighting & maxing your character. I think I may have said it before but its funny that games liek D&D led to the development of mmorpgs and now those games have influenced how D&D plays. Combat in 4e is totally "push 1, 2, 3, repeat".
That said I'd play it, beats factoring THAC0.

While it's an interesting theory I doubt Jayph took Sir Richard's arm since Sark said Sir Richard seemed surprised by this show of power and the soldier's arm wasn't cleanly removed, he died from blood loss from the wound where his arm had been.

I've never seen a Paladin as a healer, self-healing tank maybe.
Either way this character is going to be awesome!
Welcome back Gerry.
-
Yay for Gerry!!! So glad to have him back, and I love his new character! . Is he a paladin? Hope so, cause this group could use a healer.
Paladin is a healer?
4E doesn't need healers with Healing Surges

Funny 2 people point out that the sentient water being was wrong about his facts...

Just as the party seems to have gotten used to their abilities & combat sequence a whole new set of things for them to stumble through next week!
Awesome episode!

What edition would you (or anyone else reading this) suggest for a first time group?
4th edition (what they play on the show) is pretty simple to get started on. You can buy a starter pack box set for like $20 or you can download it for free http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php?cPath=9730_9739&pfrom=&pto=0&x=15&y=2
4E is kinda like playing an mmorpg (think World of Warcraft)
A lot of people prefer 3.5 or Pathfinder (which is basically a continuation of 3.5 but not "officially" Dungeons & Dragons) though 3E & 3.5E stuff may be a little harder to find since its out of print now.
As stated 4E has been discontinued now that they are working on D&D Next or 5E. You can get playtest rulesets for D&DNext/5E for free also http://www.wizards.com/dnd/DnDNext.aspx
Or find a local game/comic store that runs D&D Encounters http://locator.wizards.com/#brand=dnd

Really? Worst idea ever? Worse than say, the Holocaust or Crystal Pepsi?
neither of those things affect my life but wasting a week on an entire episode of old stories would upset me so yes
-
haha found this list, fun but eh.. the fact they include Gary Gygax as a D&D player based on being on Futurama kinda throws the whole thing out
Famous People That Play Dungeons And Dragons

Vin Diesel would be great, but what's more realistic would be to get the Insane Clown Posse.
Â
They're avid players that are guaranteed to entertain!
Â
is this true? never heard anything about this
from all the stuff they do that could be quite fun

worst idea ever

Not directly for Sark but a question for the cast/crew;
Why does a podcast that has a web creation/hosting service as a sponser NOT have a website?!

This episode may have been a little slow but it was hilarious.
I found it odd that members of the group kept trying to put off dividing up the loot when it was obvious a battle was coming up. "Oh wait we have new weapons and armor? Ah forget that stuff let's go fight."

Is this an actual play podcast? I run my own business and can listen to podcasts all day (and often do), and am always looking for a good listen.
short answer no, but its wicked fun
-
yeah honestly I was never quite sure whiched edition they (HT) ran I just kinda guessed it was 4e
he is still more dramatic with story telling though, but of course im sure thats all a part of being more comfortable with the rules, or the fact hes trying to hold together a weak show with a coupel drunk slobs haha
enough about other podcasts
yeah im sure once Sark & crew get to the point they dont need to look up a rule every few mins he will really shine through
Â
not that im knocking him as it is now
-
Man he's got some wicked charisma right? What is it, uhm oh yeah 19!
The shows are 100% better when Blackee (Blaine) has it cranked up.
-
damnit itunes, why ep15 not there yet!
-
-
That's awesome!
-
Just wondering why you guys chose to start 4e if you are all more familiar with 2e?
-
Agree with most here, best episode so far just awesome.

Dungeons & Dragons, Editions & You
in Nerd Poker

I played Advanced Dungeons & Dragons & AD&D 2E From High School til late my 20s.
Came back a little on D&D 3E/3.5E.
Came back again with D&D 4E to teach my kids how to play.
Recently got a new group together to play. Originally we were going 4E but since we didn't want to buy a whole new set of books just went back to 3E.
Â
Honestly I think 4E isn't bad for people just jumping in. It's super simplified. That said it doesn't really give you the feel of "real" D&D. The rules are all about maxing your character much the way most MMORPGs are.
(In relation to Nerd Poker this makes me really respect Gerry's characters as he seems to enjoy making oddball "flawed" characters)
Also rules heavily rely on using minitures/maps/tiles/markers of some sort and that can be a hassle for some.
Â
3E/3.5E simplified the gameplay without making it dumb and from what I understand the game Pathfinder is the same rules as D&D 3.5E carried over and expanded.
Â
I doubt anyone just jumping into D&D today would last more than one session if they went back to AD&D.
